It’s almost cliche at this point to talk about or make fun of how the local news tries to scandalize everything, but it is true that when you watch that thing the overwhelming sense is not that you are learning about the happenings of the world or engaging with the important debates of the day, but simply that you’re listening to some vaguely uninformed friend going on a hyperventilating rant about the cashier who wronged them, or whatever. I feel like the motto for the local news, ANY local news, should just be “WAIT UNTIL YOU HEAR WHAT SO-AND-SO OR MAYBE SOMETHING DID NOW!!!” There is some sitcom that I watch on my DVR that always includes the two-second bumper from that evening’s 11PM local news broadcast and every week I am reminded that I really should make a supercut of those because they are hilarious. Again, it is almost cliche how hilarious they are. It is like shooting two-second bumpers from the 11PM local news broadcast in a barrel. But every week it is this woman in too much makeup staring deadpan into the camera and asking “ARE GRAPES KILLING YOU?” Or maybe, “HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW THE CASHIER AT STAPLES?” All of that being said, this local news broadcast in which a woman and her family are interviewed on their front lawn (?!) about a store at the mall selling leopard print crotchless panties for children is almost legitimate. That store probably shouldn’t be doing that. Can we talk about this inside? No? Out on the front lawn for the whole time it is, then.

This edition of That’s Your Boyfriend is on the edge: on the one hand, your boyfriend here is singing a great song, “All My Little Words” from one of the best albums of all time, 69 Love Songs by The Magnetic Fields. And he’s not only playing guitar perfectly, but he’s singing exactly like Stephin Merrit in the original version. If anything, the only criticism here would be that he didn’t add his own twist to it, sonically (and possibly whatever’s on his shirt, though I can’t read it). But WHY did he go to all the trouble to learn and practice the song and set up his camera and NOT BOTHER TO PUT ON PANTS? His boxers are so tight they actually look uncomfortable! Dealbreaker:

There was an article a week ago in the New York Times about the stealth marketing campaign of Under Armour sportswear that has helped to make it one of the fastest growing brands in the country. This is due, in part, to its direct targeting of military personnel, and the public perception of the brand as a macho line for top performance. Well, Under Armour is about to get its dude panties up in a bunch, because there is a new line of top performance undergarment that’s about to earn a 100 percent marketshare. From the Telegraph:

The underwear, for girls as young as seven, are to promote the popular Disney film High School Musical and have “Dive In” written on the front.

High School Musical underwear, you guys. Obligatory “this is as close as Zac Efron will ever get to a vagina” joke. Incidentally, the photo accompanying this post was taken from eBay. It’s called “marketing your product to appeal to as many customers as possible.” You should probably go to Business School. Also, if you think it’s gross that someone is selling High School Musical underwear on eBay, just remember, AT LEAST THEY TOOK IT OUT OF THE PACKAGE?

Anyway, for some reason, the underwear’s slogan “dive in” is making some parents in England get all parent-y.
