Uh no, that was not “very hard to watch,” lady who said that, whoever you are. It was the opposite of “very hard to watch.” Unless you have the words “hard” and “awesome” confused. (You fell down. Every night at 7, when my TV turns itself on and starts playing The Insider as I clean up the empty coffee mugs and candy wrappers that constitute my blogging area (known affectionately as “The Bell Jar”), I think about what life must be like for host Lara Spencer. I don’t know what Lara Spencer set out to be in life — maybe, like many of us, she never had a real plan other than fun and friends. And maybe, like many of us, she’s happy to make a living working in a superficial industry, doing things that nobody will remember in even a day’s time, much less when she’s gone. But certainly, when Lara Spencer was a little girl, she never dreamed she would one day be the one lucky enough to assault America with this:

It’s a rare occurrence that a show like The Insider has an intentionally funny moment, but last night when my TV mysteriously turned itself on and the monumentally stupid celebrity gossip show filled the screen, I was shocked to find myself laughing out loud at Shia LaBeouf’s interview with Lara Spencer. Shia was telling Lara about how, to prepare for his new sci-fi thriller, Eagle Eye, he met CIA operatives who played back his own personal phone conversations to him (which sounds like bullshit, but whatever). “Was it embarrassing?” Lara asks. That’s when Shia starts riffing on his secret affair with Touched By An Angel‘s Della Reese, and refuses to let the joke go:
