As a rule, I am pretty sure that we all agreed to stop using the term “flash mob” and also just to stop even having flash mobs a couple years ago. But an old person self-described “flash mob” in a target for the holidays has found the loophole. (How do you think they all knew when to show up at the designated location? Did their pacemakers start beeping? BOOM! OLD PERSON PACEMAKER JOKE!) An old person flash mob two years after the end of flash mobs is like when your grandparents say something super racist at Thanksgiving and you’re just like, oh grandparents. When they say that life is full of surprises, they’re mostly talking about very unpleasant surprises! No one is ever like, “life is full of surprises, you never know when you’re going to get a bonus personal day off from work next!” That does not happen. And no one is ever like, “life is full of surprises, you never know what kind of cake you’re going to have this afternoon for Cake Break.” Everyone knows full well what kind of cake they’re going to have this afternoon for Cake Break. No, it’s mostly about how life throws you unexpected curveballs, like breakups and cancer and house fires. Fair enough. Those are very surprising things, and one of the goals while we are still on this Earth is to get to a place mentally and emotionally where we can deal with those surprises with patience, serenity, and maturity. That being said, just once, just ONCE, it would be nice if when someone said “life is full of surprises” what they actually meant was “for example Beyonce showing up at your dance party in the back of a Target.” Is that too much to ask, MRS. GOD?!

This video was directed by Mariah Carey’s husband, Nick Cannon, who is clearly wilding out for the big Target account. That is how advertising works, right? You just copy a three-year-old ad campaign for a music video starring your wife, and then Connie Target is like “I’m disappointed in you, Don.” Whatever. I can’t hate on this video. IT ACTUALLY DRUMLINES!

I guess I am a little late on this, but Target is running a series of holiday ads starring Maria Bamford, and they are so weird and hilarious!

Like, if you don’t know who Maria Bamford is (and if you don’t know, you need to GOGGLE IT!) then this just seems like a mildly-amusing advertisement about some great holiday gift ideas from one of our nation’s most successful big box retailers starring a middle-aged woman who seems very on edge. But if you know who Maria Bamford is then the whole thing feels like some kind of secret clever trick being played on the world. She is doing a voice that sounds like a normal voice but in reality it is a parody of a normal voice by someone with an unusual voice. Because Christmas!

Wait, apparently her new CD is being released exclusively at Target. Siiiick. So many people are going to rush there to buy it. The lines are probably going to be crazy. Your mom is going to come home and be like “I tried to go to Tar-jay but I couldn’t get in.” That’s what makes Aguilera’s new song about being a “superbitch” so edgy and in your face is that it’s like, totally aggressive and punk rock and can be located two aisles over from the purple sweatpants.
