“You reap what you sow. What goes around comes around. No matter how far you run, you can never truly escape. Everything catches up to you in the end, and when it does, it usually kicks your ass.” So says the opening voice over in the season 3 finale of Gossip Girl. Good string of bland platitudes! My favorite thing about that string of bland platitudes is that it had the right number of bland platitudes in it. Any fewer and I probably wouldn’t have understood what she was talking about. But by the fourth one I definitely STARTED to get it. Like Lost, I am sure viewers will be puzzling over this opening voice over for years after the show ends. Speaking of Lost, did anyone else notice how at multiple points in last night’s episode Blair would say things like “We have to get off this island!”? Relax, Gossip Girl. There is no mystery to you. No one has any questions. And when you do finally go off the air, it will only be a cultural event insofar as we will experience a momentary sigh of relief before forgetting that this whole thing ever happened in the first place. Juliette did it! The bomb worked!

In any case, the episode’s opening voice over is a lie. Because on this show you do not reap what you sow. What goes around does not come around. And when things catch up to you, they just refill your glass of scotch.

Lindsay covered Gossip Girl at the tail end of last season, when it was roundly being declared one of the most bloggable shows on television, but it didn’t really stick. Something about the show’s “Gilmore Girls of the Upper East Side” dialogue and soap operatic plotting ran counter to Lindsay’s taste (not enough animals involved in trampoline accidents). So I will be taking over for her next season, and who better to cover the show than the guy who was so deeply involved in The O.C. that he had numerous dreams about it, inclduding the following:

Sandy Cohen filled his mouth with grain alcohol, pulled a cigarette lighter from his pocket, and blew a fireball into Julie Cooper-Nichol’s face. Her entire upper-body and head burst into flames, and she ran screaming into this deadwood forest that, upon waking, I found myself capable of comparing only to the Swamp of Sorrow from The Neverending Story.

I’ve got the rest of the summer to catch up, and clearly I’m going to need it, because these new promos for season 2 don’t make any sense to me right now.

Huh? Fair enough. September 1st. I will be ready.

Before she played supervillianous Georgina Sparks on Gossip Girl, child actor Michelle Trachtenberg starred in a short-lived CBS sitcom by the creators of Perfect Strangers and Mork And Mindy called Meego. For some reason, I remembered the show the other day, and like every other TV show you thought was completely forgotten, its opening credits are on YouTube. The show starred Bronson Pinchot as an alien named Meego who lived with a normal family (those Perfect Strangers and Mork And Mindy creators really had a formula going.) It lasted six episodes:

Remember Jonathan Lipnicki! He’s all grown up!

You guys, we don’t really run celebrity gossip on this site, which I think is a PLUS for the American SOUL, but I’m sorry, I can’t let this item from the New York Post go unposted:

MICHELLE Trachtenberg , the new villainess on “Gossip Girl,” full-on fainted Tuesday night in the middle of the party she was hosting at the new Sunglass Hut store in SoHo. Like some Victorian heroine with the vapors, the lush-lipped actress, in a glamorous Diane von Furstenberg dress, swooned at 8 p.m., but gamely partied on until the bash ended an hour later. In fact, she was seen later, much later, at 1Oak.

You can probably ignore the rest of the site for today (please don’t ignore the rest of the site for today) because absolutely nothing will be funnier than someone passing out in the middle of the party they were hosting at THE SUNGLASS HUT. Seriously. If you look up LOL in the dictionary it has a picture of Michelle Trachtenberg lying on the floor of a Sunglass Hut asleep with a party going on all around her. That’s right, a party in a Sunglass Hut. I don’t even know who Michelle Trachtenberg is, but I can say this to the lush-lipped actress: you are on my radar NOW. Congratulations. The only place more embarrassing to throw a party, not to mention fainting in the middle of said party, is either inside a Lids, or a black-tie dinner party catered by the local shopping mall’s Panda Express.

Just kidding, nothing is more embarrassing.
