I have to admit, the “Week In GIFs” has gotten a bit more exciting for me now that our stories are back on TV. They produce so many amazing GIFs! I almost feel sorry for the shows we loved in the years before GIFs were very popular. I bet they would’ve produced some classic GIFs as well. Like remember the “PIVOT” scene from Friends? That would have been a great GIF. Not that it can’t still be made into a GIF. I’m just saying no one is trading that GIF around being like, “Check it out, from last night, remember? HAHAHAHAH.” Which is what it deserves. Oh well. Can’t look back, I guess. Just have to move forward. That is, as much as looking at GIFs of things that happened in the past few days is moving forward. So let’s do that.

Duh Aficionado Magazine: Damon Lindelof Explains How Lost Was Kind Of Bullshit

To mark the seventh anniversary of the premiere of Lost (most important anniversary there is, probably), Damon Lindelof spoke to a group of fans at the New York Television Festival (whatever THAT is) and revealed some secrets about the show’s development that are not so much actual secrets as admissions of what we all suspected the whole time. Here are some highlights (from Reuters):

[Damon Lindelof and JJ Abrams] threw in lots of wild elements just because they never expected it to get on the air.

One of the main calling cards of the show — the flashbacks to characters’ lives before they crash landed on the island — was simply a way to cut away from the same old tropical locale.

If it seemed like the writers were making things up as they went along, by the way, they often were. And also? Lindelof tried to quit the show, again and again.

“‘There should be a hatch on this island! They spend the entire season trying to get it open. And there should be these other people on the island,’” Lindelof recalled Abrams saying. “And I’m like, ”We can call them The Others.’ And he’s like, ‘They should hear this noise out there in the jungle.’ And I’m like, ‘What’s the noise?’ And he’s like, ‘I don’t…know. They’re never going to pick this thing up anyway.’”

He said he agreed with critics who said the show could never last more than a season.

Right. We know. The show was such nonsense. Just absolute garbage in so many ways. I loved it so much. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LOST! R.I.P. Lupides.

Look, John Travolta likes to ~~kiss men~~ ~~wear wigs~~ fly airplanes and THAT’S FINE. We all have hobbies, even John Travolta. But, boy oh boy, he sure likes to talk about it! Flying this, jetstream that, dude personally owns a 747 which is just straight up NONSENSE. But again, fine. People with hobbies often enjoy boring other people by talking about their hobbies as if they were everyone’s hobbies when they are very much not. It’s like hearing about someone’s dreams, or looking through vacation photos from a vacation you didn’t go on, the whole thing is exhausting long after you got the point. But have you noticed how John Travolta has been DRESSING UP LIKE A PILOT A LOT LATELY? What’s THAT all about? He knows that’s just a costume, right? You’re not a real pilot, John Travolta. Just because you know HOW to fly a plane does not mean anyone wants to fly on your airline (which does not exist). Anyway, now John Travolta is starring in some pre-flight videos that are showing on all Qantas flights, and the Qantas flight crews are pissed. Haha. I would be too! Fake ass pilot. WarmingGlow claims that this is the crappiest Lost tattoo ever, which a) presupposes that he has seen ALL of the Lost tattoos in the world, which I doubt, he is just one ~~man~~ blog, and b) completely overlooks the fact that this is actually the BEST Lost tattoo ever. Duh.

Oh Shoot, So We Have To Watch The Event Now?

Uh, did you guys watch the premiere of The Event last night? It’s a new NBC show that’s been hyped up as the new Lost. I’m not sure where the comparisons come from. The only things they even have in common are AIRPLANE CRASHES and TROPICAL ISLANDS and IMPOSSIBLE MYSTERIES. Just kidding. I get where the comparisons come from. I will say that the first episode of The Event was no the first episode of Lost. Remember the first episode of Lost? VERY GOOD FIRST EPISODE. That being said, The Event is pretty good so far! Unfortunately. I feel like there is enough going on in the world that we don’t need another TV show to feel compulsive about, and yet here we are. The beginning was silly, like, when that guy was trying to ram an airplane with his Jeep Cherokee? LOL. He is a bad actor! No offense if his mom is reading this, but your son is bad at his job. At one point, this dude (Federal agent? Who knows) is trying to ram an airplane with his Jeep Cherokee and he actually says “bring it on” or something like “bring it on,” TO THE AIRPLANE. If I were in charge of the federal agents I would definitely put that guy on some forced R&R to get his head on straight. “I’ll need your gun and your badge and your impulse to shout boring action cliches at airplanes.” But by the end of the episode I got that sinking feeling that was just like “oh great, oh no, now I have to actually watch this.”

Basically, the show follows a couple of storylines.
