Nickelodeon is creating a limited-edition series of celebrity-designed backpacks for auction this summer. With more participants to be announced shortly, Slash and Shakira along with Salma Hayek Pinault, John Leguizamo and Shakira will put their personal touches on special Dora-themed backpacks. A limited quantity of each backpack will be auctioned off globally, in countries including the United States, France, the UK, Mexico, Canada, Spain, The Netherlands, Greece, Australia, New Zealand and Israel. One hundred percent of the U.S. proceeds will benefit the Children’s Defense Fund. One hundred percent of international proceeds will go toward childhood education in each respective country.

So, Slash and John Leguizamo are designing Dora the Explorer backpacks to be auctioned off in Greece? No, that can’t be right. Too ridiculous. Hmmm. What a fun puzzle!

I don’t know why, but this red band trailer makes me laugh. “Claire?” It’s spooky and gross and everything, I’m not a monster, there’s just something so ridiculous about the guy lying down in front of his lawn mower, and also all the people hanging themselves from trees like so many pairs of tennis shoes thrown over telephone wires. At least they were very careful and made sure the ladders were sturdy before they went up there. I would hate to get ready to kill myself by hanging from a tree at a suicide block party only to discover that I died by falling off of a sloppily placed ladder. Also, SPOILER ALERT: I think John Leguizamo dies of emo poisoning.

I know that it’s really easy to make fun of M. Night Shyamalan, and that he’s up in his mysterious mansion made of whispers and tin foil laughing at us for wasting our time worrying about it. But seriously, the guy is the worst. And don’t throw that Sixth Sense nonsense at me, either. The Sixth Sense was OK. It would have made a really great episode of Stephen Spielberg’s Amazing Stories back in 1985. If you even mention Signs or Lady In The Water in the same room as me, I will Superman Punch you in the throat.

On the other hand, my dislike of Deus Ex Shyamalan is counter-balanced by my depth of enthusiasm for Mark Wahlberg, who I think is a great actor. Seriously. He is very good at the acting. So there you go. A little bit of good in the midst of a lot of bad. Just like life.

It actually doesn’t look terrible, in a Poison Ivy sort of way.
