Paul Scheer Crashes (Get It?) The Lost Panel At Comic-Con

This just proves that it doesn’t matter how famous or successful of a comedian you are, there will never be an explanation for how Hurley and Libby were in the hospital together. Not that Paul Scheer actually asked for an explanation, but you would sort of think that if on existed, just the sight of Paul Scheer would force it to come tumbling out of their pursed nerd mouths.

(Although, Libby aside, there are a bunch of Lost spoilers out of Comi-Con. I have one word for you, and that word is Boone.)

Paul Scheer, of course, has a long (one year), storied (two stories) history of crashing, or should I say smoking (huh?) Comic-Con panels.

Zune, whatever that is, has teamed up with Mean Magazine to create a series of movie parodies starring odd pairings of fames with unlikely movie choices. Looks like Mr. Zune took a course in What The Internet Wants at the Ashanti School of Parody. Clever girl. Last week, Cheech and Chong parodied Tron. Next week, Charlene Yi and Channing Tatum will parody Dirty Dancing. But this week, Aziz Ansari and Rob Huebel of Human Giant and Thomas Lennon and Ben Garant of Reno 911! teamed up for a superparody of Point Break. It is very extreme, and it is after the jump.

Scrubs Returns Tonight With Aziz Ansari!

Scrubs is back tonight at 9pm on a new network (ABC), with Human Giant‘s Aziz Ansari guest-starring in the first few episodes as an “inappropriate” intern named Ed. We’ve been eagerly awaiting this since it was first announced last Spring, so DVRs: set.

If Bobb’e J. Thompson, the little force of nature who was one of the five best parts of the fall’s best comedy movie, Role Models, looks familiar, it might be because he was in the Shutterbugs sketches on Human Giant! Here he is in a sketch from Season 1, playing the boss:

Human Giant Asks Judd Apatow About Frank Miller, Weed

This past weekend at Comic Con, the Human Giant guys showed up at a Pineapple Express panel and took over the Q&A with questions about Frank Miller, Frank Miller, swords, Superbad 2: Full Throttle, and weed. Via Paul Scheer’s blog, the Human Giant fun starts at around 4:20 (heh):

Sadly, possibly at the very time this panel was happening, the Human Giant guys were being burgled, for real. Not cool.

The Office Spinoff Snags Aziz Ansari

Good news for the world! Human Giant‘s Aziz Ansari has been hired to star in the new spinoff of The Office. Says Aziz on his blog: “I haven’t been this excited since Lisa lost Top Chef!” Variety also has some speculative details about the spinoff:

Despite early speculation that at least one “Office” character will segue to the new show, that’s unlikely at this point.

Instead, the show could potentially be a “planted spinoff,” in which characters are first introduced on “The Office” before moving on to the new series (think “Mork & Mindy,” which morphed from one episode of “Happy Days”). It’s just as possible that the show won’t be a spinoff at all (which could impact who’s involved with the show), but a wholly separate series in the same comedic vein as “The Office.”

Either way, the addition of Aziz is a really good choice, especially if, like many Office actors, he also does some writing for the show. Here’s one of Aziz’s best Human Giant sketches, Rollerblading:

Bobb’e J. Thompson plays the CEO of Shutterbugs on Human Giant. But before that, he rolled up to Showtime at the Apollo in a lime green KIA (via Aziz Is Bored).

This kid is a quintuple threat. He can sing, he can dance, he can tell jokes, he can pilot a tiny submersible into the human blood stream and solve medical mysteries, and he can bring the type of change this country is going to need after the Emmerich Event of 2029. Big ups, as always, to Steve Harvey who never misses an opportunity to put a child in his place. Although, I think it’s just because he hasn’t met his match yet:

Human Giant‘s Favorite Web Shows Should Be Your Favorite Web Shows

The Human Giant guys put the ladder down and invited a handful of the best web series to climb up out of the deep end of the internet and into the TV air (yes, I’m going with that). While it’s arguable that most smart web shows should stay on the web, where there are more smart people, and not go to TV, where if they’re very, very lucky they’ll do free TV advertising for what will become a popular web show (aka the “Circle of Life, Except In the Case of Quarterlife“), the list is called: The Web-to-TV Stars Human Giant Predict the Next Web-to-TV Stars. But really, it’s just a great list of web shows that are good on the web, free and easy to watch right now. My personal favorite featured web show from the list was The Michael Showalter Showalter. Here’s “the Show” interviewing a delightfully grumpy Paul Rudd:

Showalter’s great, but so is the entire list. TV shows for everyone!
