Rick Santorum Fails To Rest His Case

Former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum spoke to a group of college students (probably law students, since he keeps addressing one of them as just “Lawyer,” as in, “Let me talk, Lawyer.” Cool guy, this Rick Santorum guy) and during the question and answer session he goes on an aggressive and shout-y defense of his anti-homosexual beliefs as they were taught to him by the catholic church. OK. I mean, no. But sure. He seems particularly upset that anyone would call him a bigot, which is exactly what a bigot would say! Haha. I’m not sure how well that holds up as a logical argument, but also Rick Santorum IS a bigot, so I don’t even know what he’s so upset about. Anyway, he gets into a debate with one of the students (“Lawyer”) about whether or not children can grow up happily in a home with two gay parents. He argues that they can’t because of 2,000 years of catholic-backed hatred. She argues that you can because of numerous social science studies that have proven that you can. And that is when Rick Santorum fails to rest his case.

Pretty sure we’re going to get a hung jury with this one (NO PUNNO). I mean, if the dude really came into the Pizza Hut three times without buying anything, I’m not sure that you can claim this is a simple case of intolerance, although I do love how they point out that the manager ONLY kicked him out because he’d come in three times without buying anything “and because of the way he was dressed.” Well, right. Way to muddy the waters, your honor. SUSTAINED! Also: who goes to a Pizza Hut three times without buying anything? It’s not that fun in there. Oh, it’s fun if you’re eating delicious pizza, but just for hanging out? And maybe I’ve just gotten used to New York’s high-caliber drag queens, but this guy seems like he could hardly even be bothered to put any effort into it. Like, if it turned out that he was not so much expressing his freedom to choose his gender identity so much as wearing a dress because it is laundry day, I would have found that just as convincing. Oh well. The one thing we can all agree upon is that the old grandma in the parking lot needs to stuff some pizza into that mouth and shut it. Love grandmas! Hate grandmas’ opinions on most things! Louis C.K. has FINALLY broken his legendary silence on the Tracy Morgan issue, taking to Twitter to defend Tracy Morgan’s comments:

Sure! I mean, no? But sure. Like, you can totally NOT be offended by the things that Tracy Morgan said and that makes sense. Not everyone is offended by everything. But your own non-offense doesn’t negate or invalidate other people’s offense? (I know that he kind of says as much, but then he goes on to kind of take it back. He later tweets that anyone with reason knew that Tracy didn’t mean a single thing he said, which is both condescending and unrealistic.) Also: no one, not one person, is saying that everything needs to be right and balanced and fair. That’s the old anti-political correctness trope, which is and has always been nonsense. There is no such thing! People say horrible shit that is hilarious all the time, it is really not a problem. Louis C.K. is one of those people! But that doesn’t mean it is pro forma hilarious every time someone says horrible shit, even when those people have been hilarious for saying horrible shit in the past. We must always walk that line sometimes slipping over it and then refinding it again, and there is nothing particularly dangerous or harmful to a free and open society in being asked to occasionally re-examine where that line is to be found. Oh, but here is one final thing:

Tracy Morgan Appears To Be Making Pretty Decent Amends Actually

After his on-stage homophobic tirade “went viral” last week, Tracy Morgan issued a lukewarm apology that included such garbage chestnuts as “my friends and family know what is in my heart” and “I am an equal opportunity offender.” Yuck to both of those statements. But after being publicly admonished all weekend by Tina Fey and NBC and Chris Rock (eventually), etc, Tracy Morgan appears to be taking genuine steps towards making things right. From the Hollywood Reporter:

On the heels of his anti-gay tirade and subsequent apology, Tracy Morgan has told GLAAD president Jarrett Barrios that he will team up with the group to meet with LGBT youth and participate in an anti-bullying PSA.

Additionally, Morgan plans to return to Tennessee next week to apologize to audience members offended by his comments.

Right? That’s kind of a lot, doing community outreach and a PSA and apologizing directly to the people who were at the show in question. Not bad. He also issued a much more thoughtful and personal reaction to his own behavior:

After a recent performance by Tracy Morgan at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, a young man named Kevin Rogers took to his Facebook page to describe the show:

I have very thick skin when it comes to humor; I can dish and I can take. What I can’t take is when Mr. Morgan took it upon himself to mention about how he feels all this gay shit was crazy and that women are a gift from God and that “Born this Way” is bullshit, gay is a choice, and the reason he knows this is exactly because “God don’t make no mistakes” (referring to God not making someone gay cause that would be a mistake). He said that there is no way a woman could love and have sexual desire for another woman, that’s just a woman pretending because she hates a fucking man. He took time to visit the bullshit of this bullying stuff and informed us that the gays needed to quit being pussies and not be whining about something as insignificant as bullying. He mentioned that gay was something kids learn from the media and programming, and that bullied kids should just bust some ass and beat those other little fuckers that bully them, not whine about it. He said if his son that was gay he better come home and talk to him like a man and not [he mimicked a gay, high pitched voice] or he would pull out a knife and stab that little N (one word I refuse to use) to death. He mentioned that Barack Obama needed to man up and quit being all down with this just because he has a wife and two daughters. All of this being followed by thunderous cheer and “You go Tracys”. Tracy then said he didn’t fucking care if he pissed off some gays, because if they can take a fucking dick up their ass… they can take a fucking joke.

I won’t even get started on his rant about how women should be home cooking him a fucking meal and not becoming CEOs or him talking about fucking the moms of retards.

EEEEEEEEEEEEK! That is me, jumping on a table and shrieking. “KILL IT, DANNY! KILL IT!” (I don’t know who Danny is, but I would rather he have to deal with this situation. Too gross!) Obviously, uh, this is pretty unacceptable. I’m sure it was a GREAT SHOW because it sounds VERY FUNNY (JUST KIDDING I am BEING SARCASTIC) but as far as the politics of it goes: painfully reprehensible. And I bet you five hard-earned Disney Bucks that when Tracy Morgan is forced to publicly confront this and apologize, his defense will be that he is a comedian and that he was telling jokes at a comedy show. Man oh man. As someone who loves comedians and jokes and comedy shows, I sure hate that defense!

The worst part about this whole situation, though, is that the “joke” Tracy Morgan made about STABBING HIS SON TO DEATH if he ever said he was gay (in too gay a voice?) is a rip-off of SOMEONE ELSE’S NIGHTMARE JOKE!

Make no mistake: I am against homophobia. Yuck! Boo! Sorry, homophobes. TOUGH BREAK. “Cross him off The List,” that’s what all the homophobes are saying right now. “No more anti-Ryan White Christmas cards for this guy.” But wait, homophobes, Ryan White wasn’t gay, he was infected with HIV/AIDS from a blood transfusion and worked hard to advocate against the public misconception that it was a disease that only infected homosexuals. He’s a tragic but noble figure, but not really a gay rights activist. “Shut up, faggot!” Oh brother. (This is getting really weird!) The point is, I’m always very happy for anyone to join the anti-homophobe AGENDA, so I can’t take that much issue with this week’s edition of Goop, although I can take a little bit of an issue with it? I mean, look at it (from the “Be” section, obvs):

Homosexuality in the Bible

A few months ago, in the heat of the tragic teen suicides that came about from intolerance of homosexuality, I saw a man on television who was apologizing for wishing death on gays from his facebook page. This member of an Arkansas school board was contrite for the violence in his words, but maintained that his values pertaining to homosexuality would remain, as he felt homosexuality was condemned in the bible. This concept, while foreign to me, is interesting, as it used to justify so much judgement and separation in our society. When my daughter came home from school one day saying that a classmate had two mommies, my response was, “Two mommies? How lucky is she?!” What does it actually say in the bible that will cause some people to be upset by my line of thinking?

After the jump, I have posted a panel discussion from a recent episode of The Sean Hannity Show on FOX News discussing a new book by a guy named Ben Shapiro called Primetime Propaganda and DING DONG ALERT it (the panel discussion) is INSANE. The book itself proposes to prove definitively that the Hollywood Elite is overly liberal and is using their position in media and entertainment to promote a liberal agenda. Fair enough! I mean, that is probably true? This is not particularly surprising or groundbreaking information. As recent studies have shown, the more education one has, the more likely one is to lean democratic, and while this is certainly not the case across the board, many of the more important jobs in media and entertainment require some level of higher education. So, it kind of just follows. There are many exceptions to all of these rules! I am just saying, sure. Got it. Personally, as a democrat, this does not bother me, but I can see how it might bother someone who was not a democrat, no duh. “Those fucking Jews,” am I right, the Right?! But so, OK, they start talking about this proposed liberal bias in entertainment in the media on The Sean Hannity Show STARTING WITH SESAME STREET and already that is where things start to get BONKERS.

Your Grandma Sure Knows A Lot About Buttholes

Your grandma, Rosina Kovar, testified on behalf of herself and you (her grandchildren) yesterday before the Colorado Senate Judiciary concerning a civil unions ballot measure that looks like it may pass, and HO-BOY, does your grandma ever know a TON about buttholes. Like, not just the science of buttholes and how sphincter muscles work, but also the historical precedent for proper butthole usage. (She, of course, uses the technical term “anus” because she is a scholar and a gentlewoman.) It should be reiterated that she was testifying against CIVIL UNIONS, which, if I’m not mistaken, hasn’t the ship already sailed on the whole civil unions thing? Thought at the very least we had kind of put that basic yet still discriminatory step towards equal rights behind us. You hardly even hear anyone worrying that if we allow same-sex civil unions we’re going to have to start allowing human-lizard civil unions anymore.
