Description: In extended-length promotional trailer for victorious upcoming season of At the Movies in which reviled Ben Lyons and loathed Ben Mankiewicz have been replaced by two of nation’s more thoughtful and respected film critics, one of said new and most welcome replacements issues a shameless TWSS at 03:55 mark. As with most instances of TWSS, user seems ignorant of secondary, unintended TWSS meaning behind original intention of stated nonsexual interpretation of TWSS, and yet in this particular case, the non-TWSS meaning of the TWSS seems like very poor word-choice rather than simply innocent inclusion of TWSS. In that sense, TWSS is graded in the High Funny to Very High Funny range. SIDENOTE: otherwise, new season of At the Movies looks like a smart return to show’s intellectual and tonal roots; a rare American success story.

Nobody could have predicted in the innocent days of 1995 that Showgirls would be the cult classic and everlasting moneymaker that it became, but Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert’s two thumbs down review and discussion reveal their reluctant fascination with the film. Ebert’s review, particularly, just makes me want to see the movie again as soon as possible. He admits he laughed, was entertained, and wasn’t bored, though the two critics were (hilariously) “disappointed” by the lack of “new ground” broken by the camp masterpiece. Hindsight is 20/20:

I can’t help but think of the pool scene when Ebert describes the movie’s “fairly routine sex.”

In light of this week’s news that Roger Ebert and Richard Roeper would both be leaving Ebert & Roeper, the classic movie review show that Ebert started 22 years ago with his friend Gene Siskel (R.I.P.), it’s hard not to be nostalgic. Siskel & Ebert trademarked the phrase “two thumbs up.” Literally. After I post this I have to go write them a royalty check for twelve thousand dollars. Ebert and Roeper will be replaced by Wait That Guy? and Who Cares, although the show really hasn’t been the same since it was co-hosted by Siskel. Here is a great clip of the two of them fighting between takes, mostly about the McDonald’s menu.

Would you like zings with that? Can I interest you in our SuperSnap menu? It’s nice to see two guys who clearly care a lot about each other just rip each other to shreds for genuine flaws that are probably at the core of most of their insecurities. Seriously, though, these guys were the best. You have big shoes to fill, Guy? & Cares. Big, fat, grammatically disastrous shoes filled with apple pie.
