I clicked because it’s a new outtake from Ricky Gervais’s upcoming (November) appearance on Sesame Street, but I stayed because Elmo drops character but stays in-voice! Ricky: “Do you know what necrophilia is?” Elmo: “Elmo wants this tape!”:

I can’t tell if my childhood was just ruined or made ten times more awesome. That was hilarious. Self-aware Elmo should have his own show! (By the way, this is what “Elmo,” aka voice actor Kevin Clash, looks like in real life. He should get at least as much credit as Ricky Gervais for this bit of funniness.)

I would like to just take this space to remind everyone about my earlier post about the upcoming (cough! highbrow! cough!) documentary about industrial design, Objectified. Please hold the existence of that post, and its high-hanging, difficult-to-pick fruit, in your mind as you watch this creepy-as-fuck video in which a guy (the kid’s Dad?) in an Elmo suit teaches a toddler, um, how to, um, go number two in the potty:

Is that a rented suit from a costume store? Is there a hole in the back? Were sound effects added somehow? What about toilet paper? And WHYYYYY? At least the kid seems almost as freaked out as us. (“Thanks” to Sarah for the tip!)

Remember a few years ago when a talking Elmo potty-training book malfunctioned and cheerfully queried an unsuspecting family with the rhetorical question “Who wants to die?”:

There was even a Simpsons “Treehouse of Horror” segment inspired by the incident. Well, it’s happened again!

Last week, a Tampa news station interviewed a local woman who changed the batteries on her son’s talking Elmo doll, which then started using its name-knowing powers to make personal death threats against her innocent child. Why are malfunctioning Elmos obsessed with death and not, say, dirty words? Can’t he at least say “Who wants to fucking die?”
