I can’t hear you. Can you say your responses louder? HELLO? I know we still have a bunch of days before Valentine’s Day, but this is our last GIF FRIDAY before it, so I’ve included some V-Day GIFs in the bunch. No need to thank me. Just doing my duty as provider of a few holiday theme appropriate GIFs that everyone always enjoys a lot and no one feels neutral about at all. WELCOME TO MY LIFE! Along with those, we have a bunch of GIFs to remind you of the wonderful adventures we went on together throughout this past week. They’re all a delight, and I think you’re going to enjoy them. SO LET’S LOOK AT ‘EM!

Bill O’Reilly is a liar and an asshole, end of story. There’s absolutely nothing he could ever really do to make up for the years of disinformation and hate-mongering that he has broadcast through his FOX News program and his children’s books. The worst part about Bill O’Reilly, and I have said this before, is the painfully clear fact that the dude doesn’t even believe in half of the garbage things that come out of his mouth. He just says them because he knows they will appeal to his viewership, and he can continue to make lots of money. (As a point of reference on this particular issue, I highly recommend listening to/watching a Bill O’Reilly interview in the “liberal media,” either on The Daily Show or Fresh Air with Terry Gross*. It’s interesting! He almost always comes off as thoughtful and intelligent. Which only makes things worse. Because that means he’s aware.) All of this being said, today we offer credit where credit is due, and point to a rare moment of moral clarity from Mr. O’Reilly. In the wake of the Ellen Degeneres – JC Penny – Million Homophobic Moms dust up, O’Reilly addressed the issue on his show, and not only stood up for Ellen Degeneres’s corporate spokesmanship, which, well, of course he did, I mean, right, but he also stood up for gay rights in general. It’s actually pretty good:

On yesterday’s episode of Ellen, which is normally a rather cloying affair, although also entirely inoffensive and I don’t mean that in some kind of College Campus Misanthrope kind of way where “inoffensive” is the gravest of insults, I mean it in a straight-forward, dictionary definition way as in “that show couldn’t and shouldn’t offend anyone because it’s well-intentioned and has an overall spirit of positivity, which maybe the world could use more of”–(What dictionary am I using? The dictionary of MIND YOUR BEES)–Ellen announced that Prop 8 was overturned, which, by the way, Prop 8 was overturned, so that is GREAT NEWS! And then she addressed a minor but not unimportant controversy surrounding her recent appointment (nice euphemism) as the latest JC Penny spokesperson, which has outraged at least one conservative group due to Ellen’s homosexuality. Oh brother! That is what someone is mad about? That the latest JC PENNY SPOKESPERSON is gay? Not only that, but that the spokesperson is gay ELLEN? Who doesn’t love Ellen? I mean, going back to my “inoffensive” comment: it is very hard to “hate” Ellen. You might not care for her show, and you might find that she has slipped into an increasingly comfortable and unambitious slot of padding celebrity puff piece interviews with what could most generously be described as “humor” (but certainly not “comedy”), but that’s her business and her choice, and she is and has always been entirely likable in a way that at least FEELS very genuine and OK, I’m playing devil’s advocate and trying to be cynical here, which is hard for me because I am never cynical about anything, but OK maybe this “genuine” good vibe that she emits is just Hollywood smoke and mirrors and she’s as bitter and hopelessly disappointed with the meaninglessness of a life spent in pursuit of money and attention when death still awaits us all as the rest of us, but even if so: does it matter? I would argue that it doesn’t. The vibe she puts off is the vibe we receive, so who cares whether she does as many goofy dances at home? (But I bet she does! I bet she goofy dances all over that mansion!) But to get back to the issue at hand, and the people getting mad at her about JC PENNY STUFF: Ellen addresses these jerks in a way that is both funny and smart and morally correct and seems like an important and meaningful thing for a highly-visible and unthreatening celebrity to do on national television, but then is also a little bit complicated because of how at the end of the day she’s working very hard to defend a corporate sponsorship:
Classic Cros. Dax filmed her reaction, so skip to the two-minute mark if you just want to see her crying A LOT about it. It’s very much worth seeing. Good job, Kristen Bell! But if you go about as far as you can on the “most terrible” side of the public marriage proposal scale, that is where you will find televised public marriage proposals. UGH, BARF. Gross gross gross. They are always disgusting and the worst and never sweet or heartwarming like they’re supposed to be. I GET IT, you’re in love and getting married. Lots of people are! I don’t know you, you stupid stranger! So I don’t care about your particular situation! GET OFF OF THE TV! That’s what everyone thinks in their heads when they see them on TV. But, uhhhh, so, this guy proposed to his girlfriend on Ellen and it’s one of the better things I’ve seen in my life? She says no, which is obviously best case scenario when we’re talking about televised marriage proposals, but uhhhh, then Ellen rings a bell? And everything gets really weird? It’s the best. You don’t even have to just believe me about it, you can watch it yourself!

Brett Ratner was still going to produce the Oscars back then! Likewise, it’s hard to believe it has only been a month since they first appeared on Ellen to perform their cover in front of Nicki Minaj herself. (So much has changed!) (Eddie Murphy was going to host the Oscars back then!!!!) This week they were invited back on Ellen and, holy moly, Sophia Grace! It’s always kind of wild when you get to hear children talk for longer than a few seconds, because where do those thoughts even COME from, but Sophia Grace is just on another plane altogether. Not even just because she has an English accent. She just seems like a tiny SUPER gaudy old English woman who wears loads of perfume, stuffed into the skin suit of a child. (Or, honestly, Rik Mayall stuffed into the skin suit of a child.) Great image!!! Rosie seems like a tiny, silent, perfect little doll, as always. The clip is ten minutes long because the second half is Sophia performing Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep,” which is pretty much whatever because, you know, I get it, you’re basically an infant and a much better singer than any of us, but the first half is a 100% perfect interview. Let’s watch it again and again and again!

Last week, we had the privilege of watching a tiny British princess named Sophia Grace rapping Nicki Minaj’s hit “Superbass” pretty much perfectly, no matter what ANYONE says about how she maybe missed a few parts in some verses. She was so great! And today, because Ellen is nothing if not a dream-maker, she had Sophia Grace and her tiny blonde friend on (in their princess costumes, which seems kiiiind of weird) to meet and sing for Nicki Minaj herself. And it is great, too! My favorite parts are, first, when she pushes away the blonde girl, and second, when they show her father (I assume?) crying in the audience. (Or maybe he is just an emotional stranger?) Whatever, it’s all great. Except that now I feel VERY badly for that blonde girl. You poor thing! I’m sorry you got dragged into this! I’m sure you have many wonderful talents!

Dear Lady Gaga,

I don’t really know who you are. As a 64-year-old man, I find myself less and less compelled to follow the hottest tracks of the latest dance pop superstars. I know you have that one song about dancing that sounds like a a commercial for Sprite made for the Israeli market. And I know that you find Paris Hilton to be an interesting person with whom you have a lot in common and a deep, abiding friendship. But beyond that, not much. Like, where the fuck did you come from? Who does your music and/or your fabricated I Am Robot attitude appeal to? These are questions I would ask if I cared, but I do not, because caring doesn’t pay the hospital bills (for my broken hip), or the butterscotch bills (for all the butterscotch I eat).

That being said, I am nevertheless in tune enough with the pop cultural events of the day, via my shortwave radio and the mimeographed copies of the internet that the neighbor lady’s daughter brings over every morning, to know that you think yourself to be particularly provocative and cutting edge lady. You are always dressing in your fabulous costumes and giving outrageous answers to the interviewers’ questions. It would seem that you have your eyes set on becoming some kind of powerful icon of celebrity and youthful energy.

Sure. Good luck to you, young woman!

But there is one thing that is funny to me:
