Victor Whitmill, Warner Bros. may have to digitally replace Ed Helms Mike Tyson tattoo with a different tattoo for the DVD release of The Hangover Part II. We all got the AP Alert about that and it’s all anyone has been talking about. That sounds like a lot of work! That would be such an annoying job to have, digitally replacing that. But you know what wouldn’t be an annoying job to have? Creating the tattoo that they replace it with! So today we are all Ed Helms’ tattoo artists and it is our job to create Ed Helms’ new The Hangover Part II tattoo and to post it in the comments of this post. Congratulations on our new job!

After the jump is an expertly (you can hire me to edit ANY of your photos) Photoshopped* screencap of Ed Helms without his illegal tattoo. Oh no he looks so naked! Let’s give him a legal one!

This shouldn’t need and probably doesn’t need to be said, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. I mean, obviously. In the words of those Madea subway posters: no dehr. People always say that comedy is subjective, which is true, but that ignores the larger point, which is that EVERYTHING is subjective. You like what you like! No big deal! You like what you like and you go to work and you get married and you take the car to the shop and you die, or whatever. So, when I was exiting the theater after watching The Hangover Part II and a group of post-pubescent boys in front of me were already quoting lines from the movie to each other and making grandiose statements such as “That was the best movie ever made,” I had no problem with that. These guys loved it! It brought them pleasure! Pleasure is a gross word and it kind of gives me the creeps! But it did! Especially Zach’s line about Long John Silvers. That one nearly killed them. Good. Honestly, if a movie that is expressly made for post-pubescent boys can’t win over the post-pubescent boys, that is a shame. Of course, being post-pubescent boys, I’m not entirely sure that they would have afforded me the same consideration were I to turn around and tell them MY opinion. They might not recognize that it’s all just the human spectrum of experience momentarily fluorescing in the darkness in an attempt to JUST EXIST before it all goes puff. They’d probably tell me that I was wrong, or worse. They might call me names because kids can be so cruel. But nevertheless, we are all entitled to our opinions and my opinion is this:

I hate this fucking movie so much. Here is why:

Ed Helms, you guys. I never thought he was particularly funny on The Daily Show. I’m sorry, Ed Helms. Admittedly, that’s one of those opinions that’s not particularly useful. It is literally an Internet opinion. “Gay!” That being said, I have really come to enjoy Ed Helms in most of his other projects, including The Office and Very Bad Trip, and one thing that all grouchy misanthropes charged with blogging about pop-culture can agree upon is that there is nothing better than being proven wrong. Seriously! It’s the best. I was wrong about Ed Helms. He is great! Perhaps Ed Helms’s greatest strength is his <del>banjo playing</del> overpowering likability. So likable! In his opening monologue on this weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live when he said that he wasn’t married, he just looked like he was married, he was right. That’s somehow part of it. And then when he did his baton-twirling routine, it was so goofy and stupid and full of joyful silliness, and that was part of it, too. Just likable. And he lent that powerful (overpowerful?) tone to the whole episode.

I wasn’t the world’s BIGGEST fan of the original movie, The Hangover, which I thought was funny and had plenty of laughs–and obviously watching Zach Galifianakis was a real JOY–but it certainly had its problems and was not something, in my opinion, to lose one’s mind over. To put it in bro comedy relational terms, I think The Hangover was as overrated as Step Brothers was underrated. You do the math! But I really like this trailer. Yes, it is a little light on actual “jokes,” but I very much appreciate that they were just like fuck it, we’re doing the same movie all over again! Seriously. I like that. It is funny to me. It’s kind of like when Kourtney Kardashian walks onto a TV show and says “I’m a lawyer,” and you’re like, OK, got it, she’s a lawyer. I guess what I’m saying is that The Hangover 2 is the Kourtney Kardashian Attorney at Law of summer comedies? Sure. I miss Pony Day.

The best way I can describe Cedar Rapids, the wonderful new comedy by not-for-everyone director Mike Arteta (The Good Girl, Youth in Revolt), is to say it’s like Happy-Go-Lucky for guys. From me, that’s a compliment. Maybe a better way to describe it would be 40yo Virgin meets Election? Or Up in the Air for non-assholes? Office Space meets Ugly Betty Season 1? Ugh, I’m no Hollywood adjective hag, but trust me, it’s good. Really good. Not like 100% AMAZINGPERFECT, but it’s damn close. DAMN close. At a light-and-punchy 87 minutes, it tells the story of Tim Lippe (Ed Helms), who takes his very first trip away from home to a Christian-flavored insurance-salesperson conference in Cedar Rapids, only discover the pain and ecstasy of life outside the nest. If you’re gagging on my twee-nis right now, I understand. But when something’s done right, it’s done right.

Tim is a sheltered and trusting soul–a shy and nerdy insurance salesman in Brown Valley USA. His fuckbuddy is his middle school teacher, Mrs. Vanderhei (Sigourney Weaver), and he is WAY more into their relationship than she is. He’s very dedicated to his job at Brownstar Insurance (LOLZ), but not as dedicated as his asshole coworker Roger (Thomas Lennon in a performance that the shitwadz at IMDB somehow missed); but, when Roger dies in an autoerotic asphyxiation cumtastrophe, Tim’s boss Bill (Stephen Root) asks him to represent the company at the big conference.

Sure. Children love stupid stuff and parents love midnight buffets. That just makes sense. But a The Hangover-themed vacation package for Las Vegas? For adults? No, David Blaine. Don’t get me wrong: we all enjoyed The Hangover. Zach Galifianakis was in a wolf pack of one, but now he is in a wolf pack of everybody.

When movies are distributed abroad, they’re often given foreign language titles that aren’t just direct translations of the American title. Sure. Know your audience, or whatever. But for some reason, in France, they give them new titles but still in English? It is my favorite thing. One time I was in France and the movie Cruel Intentions was in theaters but as Sex Intentions, which is my favorite thing ever. It’s just a better title! There were also movie posters up (or as the French call them, Freedom Posters) for Can’t Hardly Wait but in France it was called Big Party. Incredible. So so funny. Those are both in my LOLk and they have been appreciating nicely. And now there is this:

Oh man, remember The Hangover? That movie was not necessarily my favorite comedy of all time, and it had some difficulties in its depiction of women and minorities, but it was still really funny. I laffed lots of times. Zach Galifianakis, who knew? Just kidding, everyone knew. We were just waiting for the world to catch up. Remember when Zach Galifianakis said “how is your beeper reception in here?”? OMG. Remember when Zach Galifianakis sang that song about being best friends? Remember when Zach Galifianakis started imitating Bradley Cooper’s character? Remember, remember, remember? Lots Of Love at the table, Carlos! The Hangover was the number one movie in the country for a second week in a row. That’s incredible! Congratulations to everyone involved.

And now for the bad news: look at this fucking t-shirt. UGH. So it begins. This is the part where the reality of a runaway comedic hit begins to set in. Much as the Bruno Moral Quandary points out how some monsters cannot be trusted or expected to “get” the joke, the Hangover hangover is where we realize that people don’t necessarily like things for the same reason we do, and some of these people want nothing more than to actually make us embarrassed for enjoying a movie now that it has spawned a cottage industry of incredibly annoying Urban Outfitters t-shirts and drunken barroom shouting of catchphrases. Yes, I get your reference, I saw the movie too. Now cut it out! You’re ruining it! (Via TheDailyWhat.)
