As part of their brilliant May Sweeps strategy, CBS had the writers from Two and a Half Men switch with the writers from CSI and write respective episodes for each show. Lindsay actually volunteered for Two and a Half Men duty, so I thought I had lucked out. Wow, no. Needless to say, it was definitely one of the worst episodes of CSI ever, but I’m also pretty sure they’re going to keep the whole thing in a plexiglass display case in the <del>Museum of Television and Radio</del> Paley Center For Media with a commemorative plaque that says “The Day Television Ate Its Own Tail And Died Of Fart Poisoning.” I’m pretty sure that’s going to happen.

Unbelievable. You know that these shows are written by an entire staff of writers, right? Like, it’s not just one guy. Just in case you thought it was one guy. Because if it was one guy, writing a show would be really hard. Sometimes you might have an off day. But with a whole staff of writers, there’s a level of quality control. People can read something and say “you know what, let’s change that line so it isn’t the fucking worst line.” At least, that’s what would happen in theory. I don’t know, I’m not a professional.

Last night, CBS made “television history” by airing an episode of the #1 sitcom in America, Two And A Half Men, written by the writers of their top drama, CSI. Unfortunately, Charlie Sheen was unharmed. You don’t have to have seen much of either to guess the one thing these two seemingly unrelated shows have in common other than mediocrity: semen. In the case of CSI, they kind of have to mention all of the bodily fluids in order to solve murders with any sort of realism. In the case of Two And A Half Men, however, I defy you to find a family in America that mentions semen as often as this one does, or at all. Gag. This clip from last night’s episode perfectly exemplifies the dovetailing of the two shows into a celebration of bad semen jokes. Guess the context in which Jackson Pollock’s name is dropped!

The episode of CSI written by the Two And A Half Men people airs Thursday night. You might want to keep a bucket by the couch.

In a network-mate crossover sure to go down in history along with the The Jetsons Meet The Flintsones (1987) and “NBC’s Blackout Thursday” (1994), CBS has announced that two of its top shows, CSI and Two And A Half Men, will trade mediocre writing teams next month for a sweeps-week stunt, giving the CSI writers the chance to use all of the homophobic one-liners and masturbation references that otherwise end up balled up in the writer’s room wastebasket.

“CSI” Scribes Pen the May 5th “Two and a Half Men” While “Men’s” Writers Return the Favor on the May 8th “CSI”

Monday, May 5 (9:00-9:30 PM, ET/PT) TWO AND A HALF MEN-A CSI team investigates a mysterious death at Charlie’s (Charlie Sheen) house. The episode was written by CSI writers Sarah Goldfinger and Evan Dunsky from a story by CSI executive producers Carol Mendelsohn and Naren Shankar. Robert Wagner (“Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me”) and Jenny McCarthy (“Scary Movie”) guest star.

Thursday, May 8 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) CSI-Grissom (William Petersen) and the CSI team investigate the death of a diva sitcom star (Katey Sagal) who dies suddenly while her show is filming in Las Vegas. Suspects include the entire writing staff, her loser husband and the actress who serves as her stand-in (Rachael Harris). The episode was written by Chuck Lorre and Lee Aronsohn, executive producers/writers of “Two and a Half Men.”

The adorable thing about this stunt is that neither show will be better or worse than usual, though my dream of One And A Half Men will probably not come true.
