It’s always a shame when a good joke gets spoiled. Like when you and your friends have a really funny bit that you keep doing, like, say, when someone asks you the time and it’s on the 30 instead of “three thirty” you say “threeth hurty.” Just like a really funny bit, you know? We all have them. But then you come across someone who is not that funny and they somehow do the same bit and you’re like wait a second. Is that bit NOT funny? Or, as another for instance, when you keep bringing your new intern onto your LA morning news show to bring you coffee as a joke and it’s all in good fun and the intern is a good sport about it, and then some jerk weatherman brings out a stool and sits down on it and tells the intern to give him a back rub on live TV. YOU KNOW? Kind of like when that happens. Irene! Where is she? IRENE! GET ME A COFFEE, IRENE!

Is it 100% of the photoshoots, or is it more than 100%? I’m not saying the Nazis were right to burn books, I’m not saying that, the jury is still out. But could we burn this? You know, at a certain point we ARE going to have to decide whether or not it’s best to just shut down the whole Internet. I’m not saying we have to solve the problem today necessarily (although my mind is definitely made up) but we’re going to have to cross that bridge sooner ~~or later~~. And then burn that bridge to the ground. And then build a 10-foot-high, electrified fence topped with barbed wire around the entrance to the bridge with signs posted reading “DO NOT ENTER GARBAGE BRIDGE GO READ A BOOK OR JUST GO TO SLEEP WARNING DANGER.” And then build a wall around the fence. After the jump, you can (and should) watch the trailer for a new documentary called The Bully Project about the bullying crisis in America. I think it goes without saying that I HATE BULLIES. Sorry to any bullies out there whose feelings I may have hurt. My personal experience with bullies has been relatively tame. There was this kid in elementary school who was a couple years older than me who would take my Ocean Pacific hat off and throw it down the hall. But then one year at the All School Roller Skate, we ended up skating next to each other, and our wheels touched and ground together and he fell down on the rink and I didn’t and he never bothered me again. Oh, there was also a BMX bike gang that chased me all the way to Dave Ecklund’s house, but they didn’t catch me. It was awful, but compared to what these kids are going through these days, it was small potatoes. Small, relatively benign potatoes. Kids are so mean. Oh, this movie trailer breaks my heart!

Yesterday’s news that 2012 has been indefinitely postponed was a total bummer. I’m not saying that I want the world to be destroyed in a nightmarish cataclysm of fire and death, but once you get your mind set on something it’s hard to switch gears. And it really would have been such a tidy solution to so many problems. Just think: Iraq, Afghanistan, the oil-soaked (still) Gulf coast, the economic crisis, Christine O’Donnell, DADT, Al Qaeda, peanut oil on the top of peanut butter that needs to be mixed in but is so hard to mix in, the last three episodes of Treme just sitting on the DVR, SO MANY PROBLEMS RESOLVED IN THE BLINK OF AN EYESTEROID. Oh well. Now I guess we just have to dealwithit.gif. Oddly, I’m not sure if the lack of a time constraint makes it more or less important for us each to find our joy in this world. Like, when it was all going poof in two years, it seemed pretty important to find some happiness before The End, but now that we might have to be here for fucking ever, it might actually be even more important because good grief.

Follow your heart, you guys, wherever it leads you (WITHIN THE RULE OF LAW). Even if that means dressing up your dog as a Na’vi from the movie Avatar. And then also dressing up as a Na’vi yourself? And your dog is, like, a Jake Sully Na’vi, and you are a girl Na’vi, so it’s kind of like you’re boyfriend and girlfriend with your dog in space and have forbidden ponytail Tree of Souls sex that promises you to each other? Yikes. Fair enough! Yay! Happiness! (Could someone please revisit the 2012 math and see if we can’t get back on track?)

The Real World Can Drive A Man To Drink

So, on last night’s episode of the Real World, Joey finally left the house. I guess he realized that perhaps an environment dedicated to the consumption of free alcohol was not the best place to live right when you get out of rehab. Did we really need a whole hour to get to that point? I guess they really wanted us to struggle right along with him, because I felt his pain. Me, too, Joey, I’ve never wanted a drink more in my life.

Brianna wants to work on her singing career, so she goes out to Hollywood Street and sings and at one point a guy goes “what is this?” Best question of all time. That man should get his own show. He could just walk around and ask that of so many people. “What is this?” Brianna’s answer was “Just trying to make it.” Sure. Remember when Beyonce dressed in short shorts and sang the star spangled banner for fanny-pack wearing tourists in direct competition with a guy two feet away from her wearing a Spider-Man outfit signing autographs?

The Real World: One Creep Down, Six Creeps To Go

We’ve been one creep short for the past couple weeks while Joey was in rehab, but at the start of last night’s episode he returned, bringing us back to the full Voltron of seven creeps. Joey’s drinking problem took up most of the show, again, and while it’s hard for any non-alcoholic to understand the struggle an addict goes through, it’s particularly difficult for not particularly bright 20 somethings whose need for attention is only eclipsed by their need for free well drinks at whatever bar thinks this show provides good publicity. Every five minutes was another montage of the roommates getting drunk while Joey complained that no one loves him while casually checking to make sure his biceps were still 17″ around. And while it was true that the roommates seemed mostly insensitive to Joey’s situation, I’m pretty sure Dave was totally looking out for Joey’s best interests when Joey pulled out a sheet of pills from his suitcase and Dave asked what they were and Joey told him they were bi-polar medication and Dave said “aw, don’t worry about that stuff, dude.” I would like to prove to Dave how effective bi-polar medication can be by giving him the bi-polar medication of my FISTS.

Mugatu’s Pin Gets In The Way Of Greg From The Real World‘s Ass

I know that I have said this before, but everyone on this season’s cast of The Real World needs to schedule a routine check-up with Dr. Kevorkian (so many super relevant jokes today, schwing). Just look at their MySpace and Facebook profiles. It was hard choosing which clip to post last week, because although I thought the rare intrusion of the producers was the most important event, it wasn’t as rewarding as the clip of Unapologetic Racist and Classist Kim’s remark “all strippers do it for money for their drugs, AND THAT’S A FACT.” She’s probably right. I think if you go to stripperfacts.com you’ll find out that she’s completely right.

Anyway, this week, Greg skips out on practicing with the fellow castmates’ improv troupe (which, again, worst season of Real World ever log10 to the fart power) to go be in what he claims is a fashion show.

I’m not convinced that “the jacket maneuver” was perfection, but he definitely had the right idea.
