Great news, LADIES! Your best friend is coming back for more wonderful adventures! From Entertainment Weekly:

EW has confirmed exclusively that Working Title Films, the production company responsible for the first movie released in 2001 and the second one dubbed The Edge of Reason in 2004, is moving ahead with a third installment. Based at Universal, Working Title has been mulling a sequel since 2009.

No other details were available, but last year, Bridget costar Colin Firth, who plays lovable Mark Darcy, told EW’s Dave Karger some details about a possible plot. “I can tell you that Bridget and Mark can’t have children, I think that’s the way it goes on,” Firth told Karger, who was reporting for Access Hollywood. “So then she makes the huge mistake of going back to Daniel Cleaver [Hugh Grant's character] for long enough to get pregnant. And I think he dumps her, and she’s left stranded, and guess who comes back to rescue her?”

Cool plot. I’m not sure what I like more about this love triangle. The fact that it’s toxic and destructive and sad to watch or the fact that it’s seemingly endless. LOLOLOL. Ladies, are all of you trapped in super depressing love triangles between sheepish, high-powered bureaucrats who love you unconditionally for no discernible reason and sly dog television executives who just want to tap that fat (literally) ass for no discernible reason? Is that why you love these movies so much? Because they are literally MIRRORS of real life? “She writes a diary about smoking cigarettes, and I write a Tumblr about smoking cigarettes.” That is the ladies talking. Anyway, the last movie, Bridget Jones Diary 2: The Edge of Reason accomplished two very important accomplishments: making a Thai women’s prison look FUN AND HILARIOUS, and having one of the greatest taglines ever. Can we top it? Let’s top it!

We have talked a few times in the past couple of months about the difficulty in finding something new to say about love, because of what a well-worn topic it is (perhaps the wellest worn?) but also our insatiable hunger for someone to say something new about because the truth is, love is kind of a big deal? (“Love is kind of a big deal” — my tombstone. 1933-2012.) I am no different! I’ve made it very publicly known that I love romantic comedies. I am weirdly looking VERY forward to this fucking thing? The problem with these things, though, is not just that they are so often bad, but that the ways in which they are bad are disappointing and insulting in a fundamental way that is altogether more painful to support than a bad, say, action movie. Like, if Jason Statham delivers a lackluster roundhouse to the face (not that he WOULD), you can still leave the theater with your head held high, but if you see someone making a money-grabby mockery out of a pretty basic human experience that we all spend a lot of time pursuing and enjoying and losing and rediscovering and thinking about and dissecting and listening to songs about and whatever, it’s a deeper frustration. It is like rubbing salt in a wound, except that instead of salt, it’s hackneyed meet cutes and stuffy, bloodless dialog. Bloodless dialog! In a movie about love! That stuff should be very bloody! Oh no!

When Love Actually begins, there is that briefest moment in which you carry the hope that maybe this movie will not be so bad, or maybe even good, at the very least perhaps it will do no harm, and then the dude is like “after the attacks on 9/11″ and you’re just like, “Ah. Fuck.”

UK Film Executive 1: We need an idea for a movie, guv’nah.
UK FIlm Executive 2: Yes, guv’nah, well I was thinking, guv’nah, what about The Picture of Dorian Gray? That ought to put a dash of the old wooly bully in the Queen’s crumpet!*
UK Film Executive 1: That’s a good idea. From now on, though, let’s talk about it like we’re from America.
UK FIlm Executive 2: Jolly awesome show.
UK Film Executive 1: The Picture of Dorian Gray? Do you think the kids will go for it?
UK FIlm Executive 2: They will if we use computers to make him look like Gollum from the Lord of the Rings.
UK Film Executive 1: Can Colin Firth be in it?
UK FIlm Executive 2: Colin Firth can totally be in it.
UK Film Executive 1: Hmmm. It could work. Now, this is just going to be a period piece, right? A Merchant Ivory style adaptation of a classic work of literature? That seems vaguely appropriate, and surely the only way to do The Picture of Dorian Gray without it being laughable. You want to be true to the text, sure, but the world has simply changed far too much for anyone to honestly consider the idea of a magic painting locked in the attic that disguises a violent, homosexual playboy’s amorality to actually be frightening.
UK FIlm Executive 2: What if we drop The Picture from the title, just call it Dorian Gray.
UK Film Executive 1: Oh my, I’m getting goosebumps just thinking about it.
UK FIlm Executive 2: Fist bump**.

Tony Stark looked out at the falling snow. He had rid the world of crime and poverty, but could he rid his heart of feelings for Mr. Darby? It seemed impossible. Pepper Potts came down to the laboratory with a sandwich and a glass of Glenlivet, but he wasn’t hungry. He felt too old and fat to be going through this emotional turmoil. It was almost more than his miniaturized arc reactor could take.

It had been such a big year for him, so why did he feel so … empty. Why, it was only six months ago that he realized all the womanizing and ostentatious displays of wealth were just feeble attempts to fool the world, and himself, about his repressed homosexuality. And now here he stood, truly himself for the first time, so vulnerable. He was like those Afghani villagers whose world was torn apart by a cruel reality. But where was Tony Stark’s Iron Man to save the day? He had thought that was Mr. Darcy but now he just wasn’t sure.
