Before we get into this, let me first say that I never read the graphic novel, Kick-Ass, on which the movie, Kick-Ass, is based. I don’t know if that means I have to go to Nerd Jail, or what, but also I am not scared of Nerd Jail. I’ve got a feeling I could survive an eternity in Nerd Jail. It would be like Oz, except with less wheelchair slam poetry and with more me bossing nerds around. The point is, Kick-Ass is for nerds, and if there was a sweatshirt company called FNBN that made American Apparel style shoelace hoodies, all the advertising would feature Kick-Ass wearing boyshorts. (That is such a confusing company I just made up, combining poorly defined characteristics of so many other companies that have nothing to do with each other. It is so weird that I am not a billionaire, since my head is basically filled with BUSINESS.)

So, Kick-Ass, I liked it. Let’s talk about it!

The Marmaduke Photoshop Challenge

This is the first image from the upcoming Marmaduke movie, and it definitely answers one burning question: Is the Maramduke movie going to be as bad as one would assume a Marmaduke movie would be? YESSIR. I like the late night production staff meeting to pick the perfect “first image” to put out into the world. “It has to really show what the movie is about, and I think we nailed it.” What a piece of crap! And if a picture is worth a thousand words, here are some of the words that this picture is worth, from USA Today:

“We’ve approached the movie like a John Hughes movie with dogs,” [director Tom] Dey says. “The dog park is like high school for dogs. To make this kind of movie, you really have to understand that it is the dog’s world and we just live in it.”

Almost everything in that paragraph is wrong. This movie is not going to be like a John Hughes movie, there is NO SUCH THING as “high school for dogs,” and I do not have to understand that it is the dog’s world and we just live in it, because it’s not, it’s the human’s world, and this movie looks awful.

All of that being ~~excerpted from this month’s issue of Duh Aficionado magazine~~ said, there is one great thing about this image, and that is all of the empty space above that stupid dog’s head that can be filled with jokes about this movie. I’ve included two templates after the jump that you can choose from, and then post your hilarious inventions in the comments.

Kick-Ass Looks Kick-Pretty Good!

Look, nerds, I’m sorry. Everyone pretty much hates you guys. There has certainly been a wave of pro-nerd sentiment over the past few years, but the world stands pretty much unchanged. It’s going to be jocks vs. nerds until the end of time (2012). “But we’ve got Bill Gates, the richest man in the world.” Sure. Is Bill Gates going to charge his foundation with the task of inventing a noogie deflection shield to protect all of you? No. Bill Gates is just one man, and even he is probably still constantly mocked for being such a huge nerd by his wife, and his dogs, and his solid-gold helicopter. The reality is that no matter how much Hollywood’s Jews (nerds) write scripts in which the Seth Cohens and the Dan Humphreys and the Brian Johnsons of the world become the sexually-desirable heroes, back in the real world, people want to shove nerds into lockers. Always. If anything, pro-nerd movies and TV shows are like nerd kryptonite, because it gives the nerds too much confidence and they let their nerd guard down. Keep those nerd hands up! Protect the meat!

Anyway, this movie looks pretty good.

Lord Of The Role Models: Where Comedy Nerds And Fantasy Nerds Meet

Maybe it’s because I watched Role Models again this week (the unrated version, wooo-woooooo, so dirty), but I found this new, not-late-at-all-because-Role-Models-just-came-out-on-DVD-remember mashup of the Lord Of The Rings trailer using RM footage to be charming and “precious” (groan):

Jane Lynch as Galadriel = genius. Also, apropos of not much, my current favorite line from Role Models is:

Martin (A.D. Miles): “I’ve heard of popcorn in the face but this is ridiculous!”

If I ever meet him, I’m going to say that, and then we’ll be best friends.

OMG Guess Who Got Cute Over The Summer? McLovin!

Last night’s Comedy Central telethon Night of Too Many Stars was a blur of celebrities doing mostly thrown-together acts (in a refreshing way) to raise money for Autism programs. Some celebs sent in pre-taped bits like this one from Superbad‘s Christopher Mintz-Plasse, who has totally gone through puberty and seems poised to take his place as the Designer Imposters version of surprise heartthrob Michael Cera:

Our friends at NY Mag’s The Vulture have been singing Mintz-Plasse’s acting praises forever, but now it’s clear that McLovin is just one fling with a starlet away from being totally viable homecoming date material.
