Between the clip posted after the jump of a woman crying because of kittens and this clip in which a big old bruiser actually falls to his knees in terror of puppies, the Animal Planet show My Extreme Animal Phobia is quickly becoming The Best Show. I’m sure the episode in which an old woman has a heart attack and dies live on the air because she doesn’t like ferrets is kind of boring and also who likes ferrets? But watching grown adults reduced to tears by ADORABLE THINGS is the funniest. The therapist says that Sandra’s fear of cats might look funny, but that it’s very real for her, which is a good point, Sandra’s fear of cats DOES look funny! Enough with this molly-coddling though for real. TIME TO GROW UP, EVERYBODY. Put on a clean pair of big boy pants and don’t shit them this time. We live in a genuinely terrifying world, there is no time to be crying over cute kittens. Don’t you know there is a war on?! If you really can’t get over your fear of sweet-faced, lovable kit cats, then here is what you do: shut up and don’t go on TV about it. You’re embarrassing yourself! I love it, but you’re embarrassing yourself and you’re also embarrassing your sister who has just about had enough.

Dear Everyone: I love animal videos. Do you love animal videos? Tough to say. I have no idea how you feel about them because humans have LOTS of emotions and also because I do not know you. In any case, starting today I would like to, each week, bring you a collection of animals videos that I’ve found particularly charming. I hope you enjoy it. If you don’t, maybe you should go fly a kite. Hit the road. Take a hike. I had a teacher in high school who would say, “Go play in traffic.” I don’t recommend that one, but let’s just say you should either get out of Dodge or learn to open your heart just the tiniest bit because you’re about to be hit with like a LOT of animal videos. And so here they are let’s start with this fun cat video!

Honestly, I don’t fault this cat at all. Just this morning I put a PopTart, because I am an adult who treats her body as a temple, in my toaster oven and was standing there literally ONLY waiting for the PopTart to pop up and when it popped up I jumped into the air because I was so startled. One thing that people really like — significant others especially, but also just people in general — is when you, out of love, annoy them incessantly. It’s adorable and endearing and charming and no one ever has any problems with it. Are you doing it just to get a reaction? Are you doing it because you’re bored? Are you doing it because, I don’t know, you just can’t hold it in for some reason? It doesn’t matter. The important thing is that you’re doing it and everyone loves it. Like the puppy in this video, you keep pressing, letting your actions build and build on the person at which they’re aimed until they’re forced to pay attention to you, even though maybe it is the last thing they want to do because they’ve learned that if they just ignore you, you eventually stop.

There are only a few missing elements that would make this the singularity of Internet videos, i.e. the point at which Internet videos become so self-aware that they take over…blogs? I don’t know. I should have planned that metaphor out in advance! Anyway, here are a few elements that someone should fix in post to make this a “perfect” Internet video:

The soundtrack should feature an a capella cover of The Legend of Zelda theme song.
Deal with it GIF sunglasses should descend over the cat’s face and at the bottom it should say “Deal with it.”
Either the child or the cat should fall off of the trampoline. Preferably both.

You know what is weird? Meeting people who don’t spend every waking second on the Internet is weird. Like, your family, probably. Or the waitstaff at a diner. (Those are the two types of people that you meet. Relatives and diner waitstaffs.) The things that seem to have so much importance in our daily lives suddenly become utterly and completely meaningless. You will be ordering your eggs or whatever and you’ll go “I step away from the mic to breathe in, wheat toast please,” and they don’t even get it. At the reunion you will be like, “Double family all the way so intense,” and your mom will make you go to your room. Because there is actually a whole world out there where people don’t even know about this stuff if you can believe it. They place value in other things, like, face-to-face interaction, car insurance premiums, pitchers of sun tea, and hygiene. I don’t know, it’s just interesting how an entire world can be instantly devalued and forgotten.

I’ve never owned a cat. I lived with a cat once and it killed all the mice in our house, which was nice, but it also peed on everything and was unaffectionate and kind of acted like it didn’t even know there were ever any other living beings around it. Other than the mice, which it killed. It was a stupid thing to have around, if I can be direct about it. Though I am certainly not a cat person, maybe because — like I said — I’ve never owned a cat. I’ve only had dogs. But I’m sure there ARE cats that are cool to be around, I guess. Not that I want to get into a big cats vs. dogs debate because really who cares, they’re all fine, whatever, let’s not discuss it, unless you want to, then by all means, but oh my God this cat is A JERK!
