This is an interesting Best New Party Game because it’s time sensitive and a real answer exists not very far beyond our reach! Is everyone’s blood pumping? Kind of like you took maybe too much daytime cold medicine and drank too much tea that you thought didn’t have caffeine in it? And now you’re totally ready to play a Best New Party Game?! FANTASTIC! So, Aubrey Plaza is included in a “Hot Hollywood” feature in next month’s edition of Rolling Stone. A few scans from the article exist online currently, but one is cut off at a VERY important moment! Nooooooooooooooo! WHAT WAS THE HARD NEG? I’m sure the answer will exist online at some point in the near future, but I cannot wait that long! I need to know now! It’s officially summer now, starting yesterday, and I am so happy about it. Summer is just the best. You don’t have to wear a coat when you go outside, you don’t have to walk through any snow, it’s not cold out, you aren’t cold all the time, you don’t have to annoy your friends by talking about how cold you are all the time, you don’t have to think about the cost/benefit ratio of paying to check your coat when you go places only to ultimately never do it. My goodness. Why is it ever NOT summer? Or fall? Or spring? I guess what I’m really getting at is why is it EVER winter? Ugh, winter is terrible. But who cares, it’s summer now and what better way to celebrate than by playing a word game on a blog where you insert summer imagery into movie titles! Yayayayay!

I tried to start my own Best New Party Game on Twitter last night. Has it taken Twitter by storm? No it has not. Has your mom written me like, “@videogum Lots Of Love, I can’t stop playing yr new game, it is 2 much fun #desperatepassions.” Your mom has said nothing. On the one hand, that is kind of a bummer. I tried to participate in this human world of ours, and the human world was like “u could have just as easily not tried to participate.” On the other hand, the only thing more shameful than failing at Twitter is being really good at Twitter. “Oh, he is one of the best when it comes to Twitter.” “Is he?” “Yes.” “That’s too bad.” And besides, that just means MORE PARTY GAME FOR US. Right, you guys? Right? Riiiight?* The game is simple: #HonestMovieTitles. You get it. I’ll go first:

These are getting easier and easier, at least as long as Twitter is involved. At some point one hopes/imagines that a non-Twitter-based Best New Party Game will come along that is a little more challenging. Ew, what am I even talking about? A Best New Party Game is about having fun. Challenging? Apparently I’m the dude at the party who’s like “I don’t want to play Charades. Don’t you have a copy of Revolution: The Dutch Revolt 1568-1648 that we could play?” And everyone is like “We called you a cab.” You know, parties.

Anyway, this one is easy, like I said. The Twitter hash mark is #1stdraftmovielines. You get it. I’ll go first:

The Telegraph UK (via TheDailyWhat) has the results from an on-line poll of the Top 10 Movie Misquotes. This is a perennial favorite for the pedantic film buff. These are all the iconic movie quotes that it turns out never actually happened.

“Luke, I am your father” – Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

In the spirit of the previous Best New Party Game in which you wrote the plot of a movie backwards in order to win all the fun (ex: if you watch Pretty Woman backwards, it’s about a rich woman whose boyfriend makes her become a prostitute) this one is even easier to play. You basically just reduce the plot of a movie to a few salient points to make it sound really dull and disappointing. A few examples from Postmodern Barney, the game’s creator (via BuzzFeed):

Alien: Ship fails to deliver cargo, crew don’t get bonus.

Blade Runner: Man with no apparent skill stumbles into escaped robots, fails to kill most, fucks one.

Die Hard: Dysfunctional cop saves marriage by murdering foreign national.

Groundhog Day: Misanthropic creep exploits space/time anomaly to stalk coworker.

Jurassic Park: Theme park’s grand opening pushed back.

That is hilarious. (It is a little hard to read, I know. Larger version here.) There have to be other movies you can reverse-yuck-em-up like this. That is the game. Like, if you watch Pretty Woman backwards, it’s about a rich woman whose boyfriend makes her become a prostitute. If you watch Goonies backwards it’s about children leaving a perfectly good pirate ship to chase an Italian family through a scary maze. Play it at your next party! Turn the music off and ask everyone to be quiet and play this actually-more-complicated-than-it-seems-at-first game! (Via BuzzFeed.)
