The Dark Knight Rises Trailer Open Thread

If you were on the Internet at all yesterday, then you have already seen The Dark Knight Rises trailer because it was the only thing going on. We didn’t post it because it was Monday, and we do our trailer recaps on Friday, and IMPORTANT RULES ARE IMPORTANT RULES. But then we remembered that Friday is basically Christmas and we’re not doing a trailer recap this Friday, so if we ever want to talk about this trailer THE TIME IS NOW. So? Guys? GUYS? Not baaaaaad. Very mysterious! You cannot figure out from this trailer who wins the football game! Is it the Gotham Alligators or the Pandora Gleep Gloops?! One thing I will say, though, is that they better work out this Bane shit by next summer. You cannot understand a word that dude says. And, hey, Christopher Nolan, we can SEE that he’s wearing a creepy mask, OK? The effect of him wearing a creepy mask won’t be ruined by being able to understand his dialog. I’ve watched this trailer a few times now and as far as I can tell he says, “When Gotham is in ashes, lkajlsdieowwfx godfasodfieiesd.” Is that right? Did I get it right? (If you haven’t watched, somehow, a) you’re fired and b) you can see it in HD on the Apple website.) So, what did you guys think?

Batman Wins The Most Impressive And Honorable Award That There Even Is

We are all struggling to make sense of this life before we leave it, and while we might argue that everything should be in pursuit of happiness or at least contentment and at the very least understanding, getting recognized for your work while you are alive is nothing to sneeze at either. Awards can be very nice for the people who win them! It means you are not going unnoticed. And while not winning an award doesn’t mean that your work is without merit, winning an award is often a decent sign that you’re at least on the right track. But not all awards are the same. The Golden Globes aren’t the Oscars, for example. Little Toby can come home from Arts And Crafts And Snack Time Class with a big blue ribbon but that’s also not an Oscar. But an Oscar isn’t a Spike Scream Awards award for Most Anticipated Movie. Holy smokes. WHAT AN HONOR! From /film:

Right. Good award at a real awards show. I’m sure Christopher Nolan kept giving his thank you speech long after the band had started playing his exit music, because he damned sure wasn’t going to let them take this special moment from him. He earned it. Or he will have earned it (hopefully) in a year, or something? The only sad part about what was mostly an historic event was that Batman’s parents weren’t alive to be there. Rest in Piece, Gloria and Frankie Batman. Hopefully you are looking down on this from heaven and just being so proud.

Joel Schumacher Says Val Kilmer Was “The Best Batman,” Do You Agree?!

At a recent press conference for his latest movie, director Joel Schumacher (Phone Booth, Phone Booth 2) somehow ended up discussing his powerful work with the Batman franchise. He is basically the Terrence Malick of Batman, I’m sure. Anyway, he “took full responsibility” for Batman and Robin, whatever that means. Like an apology? Do you make a full apology for Batman and Robin? Because that movie hurt people. And then he said this:

“For me, Val Kilmer was the best Batman.”

AY-AY-AY. Well this certainly raises an interesting question. Namely, is there anyone else in the whole world who agrees with Joel Schumacher and also what the hell is Joel Schumacher even talking about and also is there a script for Phone Booth 3 when is Phone Booth 3 coming out because everyone’s very excited about Phone Booth 3 and the fans would like some answers?! Anyway for the sake of Batman-related scientific inquiry, please take our brief poll to determine whether or not Joel Schumacher is alone in the universe or if there are other Joel Schumachers out there:

It seems like every day when you boot up the internet and log on to your homesite there’s a new “behind the scenes” image from the set of The Dark Knight Rises. What gives? There are a few things I don’t understand about this phenomenon:

I understand that people are curious, but this isn’t the first movie people have been curious about. Yet it is one of the few, you at least have to give me “few,” that have been subject to this kind of “we need to know what everything looks like RIGHT NOW” nerd paparazzi internet madness. Right?
Why doesn’t anyone want to be surprised anymore? Guys! You’re ruining it!
Is this in part a way to keep the buzz going for this movie that everyone is obviously going to see when it comes out anyway?
EVERYTHING LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE IT ALWAYS LOOKS.

Number four is the most puzzling to me. Uh, guys? Haven’t you seen any of the other movies or been forced to look at any of the comics ever in your life? Haven’t you at least seen what people dress up as for Halloween every year? Everything looks the same except sometimes shinier! The same with the catwoman costume, which I will keep behind this link in case anyone is trying to not see it, which I would respect. What I think the costume needs, though, is a complete reboot. It’s 2011. Let’s get serious, designers. Make it purr’k!

Batman Flying Thing Looks Silly Out Of Context

Maybe it’s because there hasn’t been much else going on lately, or maybe it’s because Pittsburgh is kind of boring and everyone there has just been waiting for something like this to happen to them, or maybe it’s because this is just a very big movie that people are excited about, but it seems like lately every single day there are more “behind the scenes” things from the set of The Dark Knight Rises on every single blog in the world. (And now this blog.) (OOPS.) I get that it’s a big movie, but there have been lots of big movies? Why is this big movie movie so special? Why does everyone have to see every single thing from this movie being filmed? The most recent thing that everyone in the world is talking about is the Batwing vehicle. It is certainly a spoiler, so if you’ve been doing your best to avoid seeing this Batwing thing that honestly just looks like the first image that pops into my head when I close my eyes and think of Batman Vehicle Not A Car, then do not look at this and I apologize. [For you, maybe you would like to watch this video of a man dressed up as batman hanging upside down on a subway in Moscow?] But. For those of you who are going to look at it because you aren’t the most uptight nerds in the world (again, my apologies), it is just the silliest looking thing. Hahahah. Big dumb batman thing getting slowly driven around on a car with fake snow flying everywhere. MOVIE MAGIC!

Glad to see that the new movie is going to pick up right where the last one left off: with noted crybaby Bruce Wayne losing Wayne Manor after the news report on the stock and then having to be the Regional Vice Batman in charge of Wal-Mart Check Out Aisles. He actually meets his new nemesis, Bane, at work one day when Bane is trying to buy a $504 bottle of milk. He sends Bane a sassy Polaroid photo because The Joker chops in half with a sword but it was all just a dream and then Robin and also the Cato Lady. “Where does he get such wonderful cholo chest tattoos?!” – Daddy Warbucks.
