I still need to see a ton of stuff from the back end of 2013. I live in China 9 months of the year (though thankfully that won’t be the case next year, but that’s another story) and while I can download & buy dirt cheap bootlegs and follow releases online, I still have a lot fewer cinema opportunities, especially where lower-key stuff goes, and the wait for dvd rips online can be tedious).
Of these I saw the two world end comedies and thoroughly enjoyed both, and I saw Gravity and liked it but not as much as I wanted to. Loved the first half-two thirds, but I just lost some connection to it when she started monologuing and getting her groove back. Still, I knew Cuaron would turn in an elite piece of cinematic eye candy and he did.
Before Midnight – above average good, like all of those movies, but nothing I loved.
Hunger Games – didn’t see the new one, was bored & disappointed by the first. Am sure I’ll eventually see it, but not in a rush.
12 Years a Slave – probably check that soon.
Don’t really know what the other 4 are.
Oh yeah, Eastbound had a great sendoff, too.
Homeland, News Room, Boardwalk. I haven’t watched House of Cards, but I hear good things there, too.
Happy enough with BB at the top, but don’t care for American Horror Story (from what I’ve seen, which is limited) and I don’t think Orange is the New Black is nearly as good as some of these lists I’m seeing do. Not bad, but not Top 10 material. I also *prepare your crucifixes* never though Mad Men was all that great, but I didn’t really watch much past the first half of the first season. I suppose I’m overdue to give it another go.
I like Game of Thrones, but talk about overrated. It’s kind of a trashy fucking show, and slow to boot. It would make my Top 10, just not as high. Walking Dead isn’t exactly the highest quality writing in the world, either, but the acting is usually solid and I watch it for what it is.
Cool to see Bob’s Burger’s which is the best new Adult Swim show in what feels like eons.
Comeback was pretty weak.
That show must have gotten a whole lot better than when it started then, because it sure seemed like a hokey piece of crap from the first episode or two.
Boo to no Boardwalk Empire.
I’m starting to get the feeling it’s time to break down and try out Homeland though, it’s starting to reach that level of duel friend/media hype.
This season Walking Dead has definitely been legit, though. Just as Breaking Bad probably was the best show of the year.
