Was AJ really your favorite, Kelly? I figured you for a Brian Littrell fan.

I thought this episode was pretty bad, maybe one of the season’s worst. I ended up skipping like half the sketches, which I don’t, usually. I don’t know, when “boobs” and “accent” are the punchlines of half the sketches featuring the host, I get a little bored/disappointed/sleepy/anxious/hungry. Did anyone else think that Pantene bit was weird, like maybe unsure of its own joke?

Uhh… you sure about that, Bing?

Was that the first time Taran Killam did the “Live from New York” thing? He looked pretty excited. Jonah Hill and Kristen Wiig seemed like BFFs. Cute. Not blown away by this episode though.

Yeah, he does look good! And fuck Billy Crystal and his cupcakes joke.

Did anyone else notice…

My guess is Trebek had an umlaut on the card, but they didn’t include it in the clue because all caps. Other guesses of mine include that I’ve spent too much time thinking about this, and that I’m a nerd.

And, for that matter, to suggest that a conventionally attractive female mathematician is somehow worth more than a “frumpy” female mathematician. And I suspect you know it’s sexist, since you asked.

I mean, yeah, it’s pretty sexist to talk about women’s beauty like it’s a commodity that men earn.

She seemed nervous. That made me feel bad for her. But she also seems like such an asshole that the feelings of goodwill turned to boredom and annoyance before Weekend Update.

Oh my god. I think I’ll just go back to bed now. I’m not ready for this week.

Oh man. That news disappointed me so much I almost downvoted you. But then I remembered that old Monster saying, “Don’t downvote the messenger.”

Yeah. I also hadn’t yet read the Lady Asshole post when I commented on this. And my comment was really more of a reaction to Kelly’s extreme aversion to her in this first episode. I think Mary’s one of the more interesting characters over the course of the show… so many of the others are drawn so sharply with a good guy/bad guy stencil set.

I loved Young Adult too, a lot. I don’t think you’re necessarily an asshole for identifying with Charlize Theron’s character in it. She was certainly an asshole, but she was also a human being (as much as any fictional character is, or maybe more than a lot of characters are, because she was a pretty fully realized character), and although her depression and alcoholism don’t justify her actions, they provide you with insight as to how she feels and how she’s capable of the horrid things she does.

I think to an extent, identifying with a character like Charlize Theron’s in Young Adult just means you’re empathetic.

I know Mary’s an asshole sometimes, but is she really that bad? Or at least, isn’t some of it understandable? I’d be an insufferable jerk, too, if I had to marry some dude I didn’t love so that I could get the money that would be mine already if inheritance laws weren’t so grossly sexist.

She’s a musician herself, too–she was in the Rentals before she joined SNL.

Do you mean the bastard seed of Spike and Shane? I assume you’re talking about Emma. And I’m embarrassed that I have amassed the knowledge to make that assumption.

Yes! When I saw they were doing another Les Jeunes De Paris sketch, I wondered why SNL has to ruin every creative and funny idea they have by overusing it until it’s no longer creative or funny, but then they pulled a fast one on me by actually adding something new. You got me, SNL. I wish you’d get me every week.

Things apparently not learned from Friends:

1) Grammar.
2) Punctuation.
3) Typing.

Haha. “…Ann?” -my terrible guess

Actually, I’m pretty sure she’s just holding onto her butt.

A great way to start Wednesday morning, or the greatest way?

Lots of things get hot when you put Michael Fassbender inside, right?? Ugh. UGH. I’m sorry. I’m sorry!
