Speaking of literary allusions, I can’t resist:

“When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. There is no middle ground.” — Cersei Lannister in Chapter 48 of A Game of Thrones

“Il faut vaincre ou périr.” [One must win or die.] —the Marquise de Merteuil in Lettre 81 of Les Liaisons dangereuses

I wish this post was tagged “the Dickensian aspect”…

I know! I vote in Wisconsin and seeing Feingold lose just broke my heart. I’m a Kentucky native, and so I’m used to seeing my preferred candidate lose elections–and when it comes to Kentucky, while I’m thoroughly ashamed of Rand Paul, at least it’s not a surprise. Wisconsin, on the other hand, is supposed to have this great progressive tradition and Feingold was so upstanding, and I was thrilled to vote here, and now I just feel betrayed…

When you say they made a mistake, are you referring to the title of the commercial? As far as I can tell in the ad itself, all he says is “Installez-vous ici [mumblemumble something that might be "je reviens dans une minute"]” and then later “Mon amour.” I did wonder why he was vouvoie-ing his lady friend…

So, since we’re talking about Big Boi and his alterego (?) Sir Lucius Leftfoot, I might as well post Janelle Monáe’s video for “Tightrope”, because I bring it up in real life no matter how tangentially it is connected to the current subject, because I am so in love with it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwnefUaKCbc

I got a 404 error, which just made me extra :( for the gulf. The ecosystem you requested is no longer here.

If you’re on Twitter, you might want to send that link to Patton Oswalt. Awhile ago he was on Twitter asking for other copies of the speech.

Don’t worry, kgh! It will still be enjoyable. I just finished watching Buffy recently and the interwebs are a minefield of spoilers–I knew about lots of things (i.e. Willow) before they happened and I was still just as glued to the screen.

REMEMBER SPIKE’S TERRIBLE LOVE POETRY AND HOW HE IS AN ADORABLE LOSER IN THE 19TH CENTURY?

I’m gonna stop there, but so excited to see all the Buffy love!!

There is a Monty Python song called “Finland.”

I am not a native Wisconsin monster, but I do currently live (t)here. Madison, specifically.

Speaking of prescience, as some people were many comments above this one, did this movie predict, or somehow cause, 2008 presidential campaign shouts of “Drill, baby, drill”? Because if so I will never forgive it.

I second or third the idea of a BMOAT hunt. I would like to see more Teen Korner, Soft Gabe posts, and Pumpkinhead Halloween Dances.
