I want to repeat my nomination for BAD BOYS 2. It’s the one where Michael Bay imposed his director’s credit over the image of a burning cross.

Thirded! or something. I just happened to watch Law Abiding Citizen tonight and it was perhaps the worst film I’ve seen in recent memory. The script is garbage town and while Gerard Butler is awful in it, don’t forget to include Jamie Foxx in our derision. Dude’s character skips his daughter’s music recital to watch a man’s execution.

I saw this last night. A fiasco. An SNL sketch about Boston. A tonal mess and a Total mess. I was not laughing with this movie I was laughing at it because it was a fucking joke.

No mention of Harlan Kane? Sketch of the night!

Charlize Theron naked, Gary Sinise bringing his post-Nam Lt. Dan wig out of storage. Oh, and so many twists.

I liked Land of the Lost so I think this looks great.

This Salon piece is the last word on Handler. Also, that Couric clip is AMAZING.

Handler’s style tends towards painfully obvious celebrity commentary with strange tourettes-like name dropping. There is a Youtube clip of her stand up where she says “Britney Spears” in the middle of a sentence that doesn’t make much sense. E used to run a promo for her show that was just a montage of Handler saying various celebrity names. Hey, people love famous peoples. They’re pretty.

Why are we all overlooking Adam’s knowing laugh at name “Kristen Stewart”? He worked with her on IN THE LAND OF WOMEN, he knows more than he is letting on.

Ashley Greene left someone off her comediennes list.

I agree with Ass Dan(and his great avatar!). I’ve always found Smith’s movies to be pretty funny, if badly filmed and acted at times. I have to say, if this is the reaction Chasing Amy gets from Gabe, I can only imagine the fireball of anger and bitterness that would erupt were he to ever watch Mallrats.

I nominate Bad Boys 2 for the next round for many reasons:

1)Dead body car chase
2)Will Smith threatening to rape a teenage boy
3)Smith high-fiving Martin Lawrence after threatening to rape a teenage boy
4)What happens right before Will Smith exclaims “That is how you shoot!”

It’s like life, man. Sometimes everything is moving too fast, sometimes too slow. Heavy.

I can appreciate that we all think Hugh Laurie is a funny and talented actor, but House is a garbage show. Using this same logic, should 2012 be nominated for best picture because we all loved Lloyd Dobbler twenty years ago?

 +1Posted on Dec 15th, 2009 | re: Gladiator 2: Robin Hood (59 comments)

It’s a hollow victory to read about a film and joke to your friends, “I bet it looks like Gladiator 2″ and then it actually does. If only Ridley Scott wasn’t so predictable. What was his last good movie, Matchstick Men?

No mention of “I’m Chuck Bass, even Europe has heard of me”?

This is the best. You deserve all the Monster’s Ball’s for that one.

I third it. I’d love to read Gabe’s take on the taxi driver’s embrace of murder, and the film’s celebration of it. I believe there is dancing.

Reading about the sad humanity of your heroes can really bum you out. Also, this song does indeed suck, but that is mainly Alicia Keys fault.

Eli’s startling omission of Where The Heart Is is unacceptable.

Gabe, you make some great points. HOWEVER, I would like to mention that Roger Donaldson has also directed the fine films The World’s Fastest Indian and The Bank Job, not to mention the classic genre piece Species. I understand your need to cherry pick his spotty track record(The Recruit is great for getting to sleep. On account of the boredom) but credit where credit is due. Unlike a lot of other directors, Donaldson appears to be getting better, learning, if you will.

+6Posted on Oct 14th, 2009 | re: We Get It, John Mayer, You're Rich And Bored (43 comments)

I’ve found John Mayer a victim of his own personal song subject, himself. When he was just a normal guy on his first album opining on nostalgia, high school expectations and lost youth, I found him pleasant and empathetic. Now that he’s a rich douche, that seems to cover all his song topics. Oh well.

His two part Prince interview was good, just to see Prince bathe in Tavis’s tongue bath and spout crazy spiritual all over the studio.

I look forward to the inevitable culture clash when Flav is asked his thoughts on Team Edward vs Team Jacob.
