Things I got up to do in the middle of a sketch during this episode: floss, scoop my cat’s litter box. I think that pretty much says it all.
Don Draper Fingerbang Threat Level: Zero.
He’s right about one thing! (Actually I think he’s right about the other thing too.)
She doesn’t even have to move her head!
Definitely agree. Don was trying to force his taste and opinion on her and she had already decided she was going to hate it.
Me too. These so-far-after-the-fact recaps are tough because I just want to tell her everything she’s going to change her mind about!
Yes, Mary is a bitch. A glorious, wonderful bitch. <3 you Mary!
She is the best, it’s true, but reading this reminded me of the very beginning when I too thought she was a total B. Her character has really come a long way.
Very good list!
Yes.
As someone who loves Joan Didion and also loves that period of Woody Allen’s films, this was relevant to my interests! I’ve always thought his late 70s/early 80s movies were weirdly aspirational in a way that no one really talks about, because deep down we all kind of want to be elitist Manhattan assholes with immaculately appointed apartments and awesome jobs that don’t make us happy. So I guess I agree with a lot of the points she makes, but I still like those movies.
Also, anytime I read a Didion takedown of something I like I have to remind myself of that one essay where she loses her shit over The Doors, and then I’m like, “Shut up Joan Didion!”
Whoa, Tony Kaye finally got to make another movie? And Adrien Brody finally got to make another movie that looks like it might not suck? Mind = blown.
Well, I guess this guy has his answer now: http://www.avclub.com/articles/ratings-roundup-whats-it-take-for-hbo-to-cancel-a,63803/
Nope, Claire Danes is always and forever Queen of the Ugly Crying Face.
Yes, on Community…another Glee joke/reference.
How did this turn into a reply? Jeez Louise…
Dear Gabe,
If you really would like to see a whole show about these people I suggest you check out another fine Bravo program called “Most Eligible Dallas,” it is basically about all these people before they got married, with a gay thrown in for good measure. Not that I, um, have watched that show enough to know anything about it, I’m just going on the previews here…
In Dallas, dude. All guys in Dallas. Dallas != Texas.
Right here! I’m so happy that Paul is doing well and not totally embarrassing himself. Also kinda glad the 24 guy bit it so early on, because that place blows.
Sarah Jane Adventures rather. I can’t even nerd out right. *sigh*
/nerdtalk Actually the BBC has nonchalantly and infuriatingly abandoned the whole 12 regenerations thing with a throwaway line in the Sarah Jane Chronicles! So, you know, nothing means anything anymore, I guess, but Doctor Who forever!
So what you really meant was “So almost from the very beginning they completely abandoned any of the plot from the comics?”
And the rainbow even omits the bullshit color, indigo! Neat!
I agree with both of those points. But I also think that if you didn’t see the writing on the wall by the second season and instead kept on thinking there was going to be a cohesive overall storyline and well-thought out answers to all the questions, instead of just going along for the fun of the ride, you have only yourself to blame for taking this shit way more seriously than anyone involved with it ever did.

I’ve never cared for that version either. I like Roger Ebert’s suggestion that you would do better to just read the book in the amount of time it takes to watch it.
Agreed on Dick Diver though.
