Webster died before the telephone was invented, BOOM, game-set-match!
I’m sorry Kelly, but the I believe that playing with the conventions of “rom-com” and “dramedy” genres was a large part of the filmmaker’s intention. And perhaps the fact that you were left perplexed and uncertain as to how to feel is not necessarily negative (nor necessarily positive) but indicates that something else was going on in the film that was different from what other, more generic, films offer. At the same time, Friends With Kids, I agree, does play it safe at many points in the plot, and sometimes characters tend to act much more contradictory and ambiguous when a joke or plot point needs to be progressed. Still, I thought it was a rather meticulous (well edited and tighter script than most), professional (in an aesthetic sense), and different (at least from other mainstream white heteronormative middle class urban centric films) view of how adults in their late 30s to early 40s have to deal with aging, romantic love, and the American notion of a nuclear family.
Let’s take a note from Season 5 and check the sources. Gabe is not 4 years too late, because although Ambrose’s quote is correctly cited, what Gabe provided above is from a recent interview, dated March 1, 2012.

BRAVO for this recap! This sounds like a disgusting season, and I’m glad I haven’t watched it. The recaps, though, have been pure comedic gold.
I haven’t been watching Top Chef, but the whole reason I gave it a chance was because of Gabe’s recaps. Keep it coming!
not that it matters, but isn’t this fake?

I’ve been a lurker for over six months now, and although I have nothing witty to say, Gabe’s Lost recap is the only thing that helps me cope with my miserable Wednesday mornings.
Looks like a better lit version of Chasing Amy.

Yes, I’m glad they didn’t make too much of a big deal about Megan Fox, but I also wish they would have cast some one else, with a more “likeable” aura.
