I did not mean to imply that Klosterman is the first person to reference either Carver’s wording or Cuomo’s fetish (ah no duh). Perhaps this is all just a coincidence. But I think not.

Thanks for pulling out the classic nerdsnark on me, though. I feel truly accepted now.

Gabe, I know you are reading/have read Klosterman’s new book, “Eating the Dinosaur”. First the “What we talk about when we talk about ____” titled post, and now a reference to Rivers’ Japanese teenager obsession. THESE CANNOT BE SIMPLE COINCIDENCES. Why don’t you just write a post about the book so we can all talk about it together? What’d'ya say? I am dying to know what my fellow pop culture geeks think about it.

Gabe, I may be wrong here, but I think it should read, “I Wish James Gandolfini WERE My Dad.”

But I still love you! HAGS!

I liked how he followed that line with something about taking out Texas and then the rest of the south. I was not alive then, but I have heard that many people really did blame Texas, and specifically Dallas, for Kennedy’s death. That seems like such a weird mentality today.

and I think the best visual of the night may have been Kenneth’s female persona holding the doll’s head at the end of 30 Rock.

I am fairly amazed that Southpark is still producing strong content, especially considering its first season was mostly about anal probes and poop.

It might just be because it is the shiny new toy in the pile, but I am really into Community. Even if it wasn’t the first to come up on the DVR queue, I think I would watch it first. It just seems to get stronger by the week. And Parks and Rec was great last night as well. I’m no tv buff, but I can’t really think of another show that has made such a leap in its second season. Of course, both of those shows are at least five deep when it comes to talent, so they’re not exactly underdogs.

Why are we so quick to defend the honor of Chris Farley? He died from a ridiculous drug cocktail twelve years ago and in doing so threw away a lot of talent and disappointed a lot of fans. If this bullshit throwaway commercial pads his family’s pockets, then why should I be offended? If this whole multi-post campaign is about making fun of Spade’s weak grasp on our current lexicon, that’s fine, but I don’t feel sorry for dead Chris Farley.

This does not happen often, but I disagree with most of Gabe’s comments. This may have to do with a) children leaving my theatre screaming and crying, and b) my coming into the movie without a real emotional attachment to the ten sentence source material. I do agree that it was a beautifully shot film. But I disagree in that I thought they did an excellent job making Max a believable child character. He did and said things a child would do. Frustrated? Have a score to settle? Have a mud clod fight where in you pick good guys and bad guys with your friends populating the “good guy” side. That’s just what kids do. In doing that, they made this an enjoyable experience for adults looking to pick apart the psychological aspects of what was a very nuanced and non-traditional plot. Even if kids don?t get scared by the physical appearance of the monsters, I doubt they will know how to handle the emotional aspect, which will either freak them out or go over their head and ultimately bore them. I doubted Jonze and Eggers would be able to make a kids movie, but they did?they just made one for adults.
