Hopefully the beautiful weather in many places this weekend didn’t stop all interested parties from doing their solemn duty and watching Grey Gardens on HBO this weekend. I’ve already mentioned what a sad, yet fun, yet heartbreaking movie it was, but maybe some of you are not such crybabies (or maybe some of you hated it!) Either way, here’s the part where Little Edie asks Jackie O. if it’s true that Jack Kennedy gave her gonnorhea, and then we’ll talk.

(“Pate” means “cat food” btw):

So, the whole movie: Big Edie, what a monster, right?

  1. I haven’t watched it yet, but Jeanne Tripplehorn actually does look a lot like Jackie O in that clip, doesn’t she?!

  2. There were some serious mental issues happening with both Edie’s. By the end of the movie, I didn’t even know what to think!

  3. Apart from Jerry’s mysterious absence, I thought it was really great. I almost forgot Little Edie was Drew Barrymore several times!

    Also, nice hiccup-laugh at 0:50

    True, Why no marble faun?

Very entertaining, no doubt, excellent performances.
Little Edie always looked to me as if she was kept hostage, emotionally anyway…
Loved the scene when she goes through the garden door and comes back out.
It tells me that she was a lot more self-aware than I originally thought and therefore made me want to watch the original for the mmmmmm….6th?,7th? time

  5. yes, no jerry = completely weird (almost disturbing). still, great job by drew and jessica

  6. Amazing movie. You’re dead on when you say it’s sad, fun, and heartbreaking. I think I might watch it again later in the week. The costumes were fantastic as well – this one’s my favorite:

  7. I was pleased to see that Drew Barrymore’s Little Edie accent was creepily spot on.

  8. I remember my aunt watching this a lot when I was little, but, I never really sat down to watch it myself :/
    It’s on my list now.

  9. I’m scared to see this because I love the original and Drew Barrymore hasn’t been good in a movie since…..E.T.?
