There’s a new full-length trailer for the Judd Apatow-produced, Harold Ramis-directed prehistoric/Biblical summer comedy Year One starring Jack Black, Michael Cera, Olivia Wilde from House, and all the Apatow people. I think it looks funny!:

But it seems like the reaction on the internet hasn’t been so great (take Vulture, for example: “This doesn’t look that funny.”) Oh silly, forgetful internet, I just want to muss your cute wittle hair and remind you of the First Rule Of Comedy Movie Trailers:

Thou Shalt Reserve Judgment For The Red Band Trailer.

Unless, of course, this ends up rated PG or some other sort of Apatow abomination. In which case, I still think it looks kind of funny, but boo.

  1. If nothing else, I’m going to see it for Paul Rudd/David Cross as Cain and Abel

michael bluth gave up the arrested development movie for THIS?
cera needs to pick up his a-game.
i’m not sure what exactly i mean by that, but i hear cool people say it.

  3. I second CarolineA’s sentiment! I’ll watch David Cross in anything, but preferrably not another Law & Order and now that Lindsay has rekindled my Paul Rudd circa Clueless crush, I’m totally in for this movie!

  4. Poliest of polies was pretty good, HAVE’TA ADMIT.

  5. If it isn’t Michael Cera playing George Michael for the 189124th time…

  6. I really wish I had come up with Muscle Tribe of Excellence and Danger.

  7. i will be disappointed if they don’t throw in some Life of Brian references.

  8. ramis! he’s having a rather murrayian resurgence. well-deserved.

  9. I have a fever, and the only cure is more David Cross.

  10. Oh yeah, also, did anyone else think of Caveman with Ringo Starr & Shelly Long? Yeah, so it’s mostly completely different, but still, there’s a touch of sameness & that was like my favorite movie when I was a kid.

  11. “you’re called suck” — worth the price of admission?

and leave michael cera alone. this is who he is and he’s very good at it. what, is he supposed to lower his voice and start working out? david cross, paul rudd and jack black are also exactly the same as they always are in this movie and no one’s tearing them new ones.

    haters…

    • I agree, I still love Michael Cera, and it’s annoying to feel like I shouldn’t be laughing at his schtick anymore because he’s done it so much. It’s still hilarious! (To me at least)
He’s found his delivery and it’s working out for him. He wouldn’t be that funny if he wasn’t doing that, would he?

yes, but paul rudd, david cross, and jack black are funny. they have created great movies, stand up routines, and interviews… i love michael cera, but he just plays the same roles. yes, he does play those roles great. but they’re the same roles that have been written by other men.

    • most actors play roles written by other people. that’s why they’re called actors. we have no idea whether cera has used improv skills in any of his films (although his seemingly unscripted “knocked up” audition was fucking hilarious) but he’s always done what he’s hired to do: play a lovable, awkward guy.

  13. Oops, I thought it was funny. Plus Michael Cera + Dave Cross = me seeing this film.
