Super-smart eagles have figured out a way to open turtle shells, as this amazing video demonstrates. So much suspense! (If you’re a little girl you should probably not watch unless you want to be infuriated by nature’s chaos and murder. Also, you should probably not be on this site):

I will admit this made me wince a little, but it’s also really cool! And remember: the wittle baby eagles would slowly starve to death in their nest if all of the tortoises got to live.

I got exactly 4 seconds in but when they zoomed in on his little old man turtle face I had to stop. If it were only far away I could have probably laughed but the zoom in made it all too real. It’s a wonder I’ve made it this far through life.

While on one hand I agree with you, that old man turtle face wouldn’t really hesitate to bite your fingers off.

  2. I understand the whole “you’re bigger than they are” logic, but eagles still scare the shit out of me.

  3. What if we “like like” turtles?

  4. That was amazing. Nature just continues to be more awesomer every day. Btw, what was this clip from?

  5. ——- opening scene ——–
Turtle Son: Dad, will we ever be able to fly?
Turtle Dad: No, son. We don’t have wings. We have a hard shell for a reason.
Turtle Son: I know, Dad, but sometimes I like to dream!
    ———— scene 2 ————
    Eagle: Enjoy the view, bitch.
    ———— scene 3 ————
Turtle Son: Mom, is dad going to be home in time for dinner?
Turtle Mom: He should be here. He just went out for his evening stroll.

  6. Aeschylus learned this fact of nature…. the hard way! OUCH!

    Love that screencap.

  8. USA! USA! Number 1! Number 1!

  9. I was able to watch this because the turtle didn’t explode all over the rocks.

But when Andrew Zimmern ate a bunch of turtle in Asia I was all like :(

The one on Caves is the best. Post a link to that.

Sir David Attenborough is the greatest man alive, he educated me on all the horrors of the animal kingdom as a child (hurrah for PBS and TVO). The worst is the video of the Orcas “playing” with sea lions…theres a reason why they’re called “Killer Whales” :(

  12. I just couldn’t watch. I may be able to kick a man in his testicles, but I can’t watch a turtle being pried out of its shell.

missed a prime opportunity to show a clip of the “i like turtles” zombie kid.
it’s old, but in this context, relevant.

  14. Crows living in the inner cities have learned to do this with acorns. They drop them onto cross walks so that cars will run over them and crush them. When someone presses the button to cross the street, they swoop down and collect the acorn bits. Crazy shit.

Remember when Bear What-his-face Powerbar Cheater Asshole stabbed a turtle in the face and ate it in the Everglades? I hate him. But eagles can totally do it. You know, Nature.
