The trailer for The Way We Get By, a documentary premiering at SXSW about three elderly people who have made it their mission to greet every returning soldier at the airport in Bangor, Maine. Kleenex up!:

Awwww! There is nothing sadder than a sad old man. Someday there will be an Iraq documentary festival and this will be a depressing double feature with No End In Sight.

  1. Gross. Old people are gross. How am I supposed to cry for Hans Moleman. He’s already dead.

  2. Damnit Lindsay! I did cry.
And I’m not even American. This looks beautiful.

  3. Awesome to see this actually going somewhere. The people who made it screened it in one of my visual journalism classes last year while they were still trying to sell it and pretty much everyone cried.

It’s ridiculous how few people are going to see this compared to how many people need to see it. I almost hope HBO or something picks it up so it can reach a wider audience.

  5. I am going to watch this immediately. If the Spoon song “The Way We Get By” is not in the trailer, it loses.

It probably is totally inappropriate for the whole trailer, but throw me an obvious bone here.

Had the privilege of seeing this before it debuted on the festival circuit. It is a fantastic film and recommend everyone seeing it. It really isn’t about the war as much as what it’s like to grow old and have a purpose in life. it’s truly brilliant stuff and can’t say enough good things about it
