John Tesh, man. You just absolutely cannot put that guy in a box. This video is going around this week of a live performance he did last summer in which Tesh played his home answering machine for the audience to show them the origin of the NBA theme, which he wrote. Yes. All those things:

And remember he used to be a celebrity news anchor? Who is going to these John Tesh concerts? I demand a movie called John Tesh Parking Lot. (Via Fey Friends.)

By “last summer,” I think you actually mean “12 years ago.”

  2. i don’t know if it’s the golden locks, the vest or the wtf-tastic music, but THAT’S an infotainer. (take notes, seacrest.) connie sellecca is a lucky lucky lady.

  3. Someone really needs to get him a tape recorder. Still, this fucking song OWNS. I wish I was stoned out of my gourd at Red Rocks listening to this with Dennis Rodman and Peter Vescey by my side.

  4. Christian ladies LOVE John Tesh

  5. I’d pay $65 to listen to the extended version of Roundball Rock, sure. Because is that G.E. Smith with the bitchin’ guitar solo? No? Just a guy who looks like G.E. Smith? Either way, debit my Visa account.

So many people at that concert. Why?

  7. is this guy a scientologist? his whole thing screams scientology for some reason

  8. it’s funny when he says “NBA theme” and the crowd cheers. like it’s their favorite song? what?

  9. my favorite thing about john tesh is that he drinks cereal with water instead of milk. he said it one night in passing on ET years and years and years ago and i always thought it was so weird. years later, when i tried to google if anyone else remembered it. i found his health blog where he talks about living a macrobiotic life and was trying to sell a life-coach book like dr. phil and iyanla and susan powter before him.

  10. Everything Tesh does is done with a wink and a smirk. We can laugh all we want but he knows something we don’t. I sure as shit couldn’t pull off an NBA jam at Red Rocks wearing a banded collar and vest. He’s the Crispin Glover of adult contemporary.

    • Did you follow the Scientific Method to arrive at this conclusion? Your delivery is very confident.

I, too, could not pull of an NBA jam at Red Rocks wearing a banded collar and vest. We’re the same, you and I.
      :)

(via Fey Friends) = (via Fey Friends who saw it on Bill Simmons’s latest entry and posted it without giving credit to the source)

    • I was seriously JUST about to say the exact same thing. It’s certainly not Videogum’s fault (I can only assume they’ve never been to ESPN.com), but Simmons posted this in his trade value column yesterday. Nice to see at least one other person on here cares about sports.

WAIT! Was that G.E. Smith from G. E. Smith and the Saturday Night Live Band playing lead guitar?

I felt like I was watching the single greatest influence on GOB Bluth’s career. Plus, Commandant Violin!

  14. I have so many words bursting out of my mouth right now that they can’t even begin to make sense, some of them even form phrases with question marks at the end:

    invisible basketball??!!!
the look on the violinists face with the teal half/extra long jacket that suggests he’s in on something i’m not.
    guitar vs violin?!!!?!??!!!

I’ll have to sort all of this out in the morning.

  15. What is this sports you refer to?
