45365 is the zip code for Sidney, Ohio, where filmmakers spent nine months making a documentary about the town and the people of the town. It premieres at SXSW next month. Watching this trailer, which resembles nothing more than a two-minute creditless intro sequence for Friday Night Lights, I can’t help but think “Wow, this looks boring!” while thinking “So it must be really good, like Helvetica. They’re playing hard to get.” So they got me:

It can’t be worse than American Teen. (I’m sorry, American Teen. You were just too shallow.)

    Gummo 2? I wish

  2. This appeals to all of us because of the Sufjan song.

  3. I feel like they’re trying to steal the credibility of the Sufjan song!

  4. THANK YOU for admitting that American Teen was shallow. That movie was a really uninteresting MTV True Life. I do not understand for the life of me how people thought it was good in any way. Remember “Paris is Burning,” Errol Morris, and Herzog? That is documentary. American Teen truly saddened me.

  5. the credibility of the sufjan song that’s totally ripping off steve reich?

  6. I thought that sounded like Sufjan, glad I was right. Is this foreshadowing a new Ohio-themed album perhaps? Probs not.

I personally find the recognizable motifs of middle-America to be a little staid by now. Football, church, guns, barns, fireworks, trick-or-treating, etc. America! We get it.

  7. So Kenneth the Page was right, pigs ARE excellent swimmers.

  8. Didn’t David Byrne make this movie years ago? True Stories?

    Fuck that,
What I really want to see a movie of that kid getting her tooth yanked out.
