Last night, TV On The Radio performed on The Colbert Report, but first band members Kyp Malone, Tunde Adebimpe and David Andrew Sitek were subjected to an interview with Stephen-the-character, whom the reserved band members didn’t seem to quite know what to do with, in an adorable way. After the jump, Stephen asks the TVotR guys hardball questions about their last album “Return To Cookie Mountain” (“Why would you ever leave cookie mountain?”), informs them that they’re about to lose their indie cred to the Colbert Bump, and suggests they hire Katy Perry to sing for them. (And then they perform “Dancing Chooose.”)

And in case you didn’t catch Stephen’s made-up examples of the band’s influences, they were: “Relevant Elephant,” “Rayon Mammoth,” and “Bunker Sorbet.” (Comedy-nerd musicians, take note.)

I like how you can hear Stephen at the end thanking them for putting up with the schtick. Actually, turns out, I don’t like it. Does anyone still believe people don’t see the Colbert schtick coming anymore? Colbert has lost his indie cred.
I liked Relevant Elephant’s early stuff, but for the next few albums it just felt like they were re-releasing Broken Mahjongg with violins.
Yeah dafs, ever since Sergio left after Broken Mahjongg, Relevant Elehpant has been going downhill.
How much better did this sound than when they were on SNL? It just shows how braindead the soundboard is at NBC.
They werent bad on SNL, it was just mixed so poorly. NBC for shame!
Did anyone else notice the cameraman trying to look up the saxophonist’s dress at 1:54?
Call me an idiot, but this is definitely my favorite track off Dear Science, and they freakin’ hit it out of the park on this take. I’m officially counting SNL to the bad soundboard and mixing.
