Steve Martin continued his Pink Panther 2 promotional rounds by appearing on Letterman last night, where he revealed that he was one of the passengers on US Airways flight 1549:

Later, Steve complained about mean people on the internet. We love you, Steve, and we’re sure it’s not your fault, but that last SNL was just a dud. It happens. On behalf of the internet, we’re sorry.

  1. I officially don’t understand why he is funny. Someone please tell me what movies to see or sketches to watch, because “we are two wild and crazy guys” can only go so far, and my girlfriend hasn’t been able to force me watch Father of the Bride for awhile now.

    • I’ll admit i haven’t been too impressed with the movies he has done lately but his live appearances like this always make me laugh. You should check out his comedy for dogs.

    • The Jerk is great, but it’s pretty dated. His standup is really where he shines though.

    • I think you should give Steve Martin another chance. I grew up thinking he was just outstanding. Check out “Roxanne,” or “L.A. Story” for starters. I used to love “My Blue Heaven” too, but it’s been a while since I saw that. “All of Me” is a neat movie featuring some pretty crazy walking, which is sort of what made him hilarious to me when I was a kid. He also does great dramatic work in “Leap of Faith” and “Grand Canyon.” A couple slapsticky movies that make me laugh are “The Man with Two Brains” and “Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid.” DMDWP is in thrilling Detectovision! If you’re a reader, I highly recommend “The Pleasure of My Company,” and his collection of writing for the New Yorker. Presently I’m reading his autobiography, “Born Standing Up.” It’s nice, but not really comedic.

      • Born Standing Up is amazing. I listened to the audiobook, where he actually reads some of his old routines, and they’re still really funny. Ultimately, how funny he used to be helps me forgive him for how funny he isn’t anymore.

  2. wow– im astounded this wasnt revealed sooner!

I’m a Steve Martin fan, but his whole bit on Letterman last night about being on Flight 1549 was in horrible taste. I was embarrassed for him.

  4. I like the jerk, three amigos, the man with two brains, and planes trains and automobiles enough that he can do whatever he wants to his career. like they always say (they: humphrey bogart that one time) “there will always be paris” (but not paris; instead, those movies i just said).

  5. um, ‘dirty rotten scoundrels.’ that alone is worth having some love for steve martin.
    also ‘the jerk.’
    also his books.
also he is just generally the best.
(he lives on my imaginary celebrity cul-de-sac.)
