Hands On A Hard Body, the 1997 documentary about competitors in a Texas car dealership’s unusual annual endurance contest, has, despite being a cult favorite, had an availability date of “unknown” on Netflix and was almost impossible to find at video stores (though it’s available for purchase on Amazon for $85.) As discovered by Waxy.org, the movie is now streaming free in its entirety on Google Video. The film follows the 1995 contest, where 24 people tried to keep their hands on a truck for the longest amount of time in order to win it. It lasted 77 hours. Here’s the trailer:
Why hasn’t Will Ferrell optioned this as a comedy yet?

I could see Christopher Guest doing something great out of this, also.
Actually, I’d read that Robert Altman was working on an adaptation when he died.
because will ferrell is. not. funny.
This is the contest they discontinued in 2005 after somebody dropped out and promptly killed himself. Surely they could work that into a movie. Maybe Larry the Cable Guy could play him, but only if they used a real gun.
A few years ago, this girl I was dating called the dealership and they sent her a shirt from the competition. Not sure if they would have any left now, but that was a pretty awesome gift.
hey, weird, i just heard it’s gonna be on ‘this american life’ next week too
