Considering the fact that we’re still embroiled in the conflict in Iraq, I think it would be weird to say that I’m “excited” about David Simon’s upcoming HBO mini-series Generation Kill. It’s based on the true stories of a few of the marines of the First Recon battalion during the invasion of Baghdad, so it’s not like we’re talking about the new season of My Mom Farted (i.e. something you would describe as “exciting”). But I can say that it looks “very well made” and like “a thing I’m going to watch.”

HBO has put up a few promos that introduce us to some of the characters, along with interviews with the actors and producers.

Cpl. Ray Person

Sgt. Brad “Iceman” Colbert

Sgt. Antonio “Poke” Espera

Lt. Nate Fick

Lance Cpl. James Trombley

So, if I’ve got this right, Cpl. Ray Person is D’Angelo Barksdale, Sgt. Colbert is Avon, Sgt. Espera is Stringer Bell, Lt. Fick is Bodie, and Cpl. James Trombley is Ziggy. Or wait, maybe it’s the other way around. Maybe Cpl. Person is Lester Freeman, Sgt. Colbert is Cedric Daniels, Espera is Kima Greggs, Fick is Carcetti, and Trombley is Mr. Prezbo. Because everything has to be like everything else, that’s the rule.

Generation Kill premieres Sunday, July 13th.

That’s Lester Freamon. You ought to be ashamed of your Wire-character-spelling abilities. And yet you call yourself a blogger. For shame.
