Jason Segel is the best. This weekend, the courageous exhibtionist star of Forgetting Sarah Marshall and How I Met Your Mother presented Judd Apatow with the Key Arts Visionary Award, a Hollywood Reporter-sponsored prize for inspiring movie marketing. “We’re here to honor Judd Apatow’s uncanny knack for promoting his films,” Segel began, before bringing out the posters for The 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, and Superbad, which all featured “unrecognizable faces” that became “huge successes.”

Then Segel brought out the Forgetting Sarah Marshall and told the story of asking Apatow why his face wasn’t on it. Apatow told him: “We tested movie posters with your face on them, and there was an unfavorable reaction to your face.”

Jason Segel is just the best. I can’t wait for I Love You, Man in 2009, co-starring Paul Rudd, whose perfect face will surely cancel out any misguided focus group unfavorable reactions.

  1. i saw him IRL (IN REAL LIFE) a couple years ago when he was still on undeclared and undeclared was still on tv and not just via your dvd player and remember basically shitting my pants in amazement and joy. if shitting your pants in excitement is considered “unfavorable,” than i guess i had an “unfavorable reaction” to his beautiful, beautiful broken face.
