The only thing worse than this song is the lip-synching. Yikes. The video director was like “do you want to try taking that one more time,” but the dude was like “no, I’m sure I nailed it.” But the thing that really strikes me in this video is the little brother’s character. No one has ever been like that in the history of the world. He’s like the toughest Oompa Loompa, and I don’t mean because he’s short, I mean that because he has orange skin and silver hair and he prances around in a mythical wonderland making monster faces. He is make believe. “This song is for anyone who has ever had to rescue a loved one from being a weird side character in a failed Sci-Fi pilot about space greasers.” Huh?

Great child Prince impersonator near the end, though. One of the best child Prince impersonators I have ever seen. (Thanks for the tip, Chris.)

  1. That’s one sexy sweater vest. Are you lending your clothes out again, Gabe?

the next worst thing is that he’s the “co-owner of the male fashion company Guido New York.”

  3. I want to live in that house so bad. I mean look at it, there is clearly something going on in there. Its on fire and like dancing or something.

    • yeah, i was watching it thinking “that house with ‘something going on’ just looks like it’s on fire. don’t go up that hill.”

Bruce is there; this must be the Mansion on the Hill I’ve heard so much about

  4. Those dance moves are smooth, haven’t seen something pull a somersault after a spin move like that since… never?

  5. Um, you guys? Let’s go home and rap with one another.

  6. man that was FRESH! it was like the statement on the cult of celebrity from Harmony Korine’s “Mister Lonely” filtered through 80′s music video set design Expressionism. Nolan Thomas was down, but he turned around and rescued his little brother from the society of spectacle. They went home and rapped with one another, and all that was solid melted into air. the end.

    FRESH!

  7. If I ever have kids, I hope there?s a miniPrince, a miniLauper, a miniTylerPerry, and a miniRic Ocasek so I can exploit them for $$$ at mini state fairs. Your neuroses=Daddy’s Mercedes, pumpkins.

  8. I bet Cyndi Lauper saw this and was like, “How come I don’t remember this!?”

The completely out of nowhere punch at 2:40 was basically perfect.

  10. Is there ANYTHING right with this video?

  11. I gotta say, if what little brother is lookin for in the streets has anything to do with all them unnecessary gymnastics, count my fat ass out. Have fun flippin, my silver haired, fruity little brother.

  12. I don’t know what you guys are talking about. This is the fucking jam.

    • I’m going to second that because this song rules. And so does the video. Mini Bruce Springsteen? Mini Prince? Mini Billy Idol…breakdancing? YES PLEASE. (If you were born in the 80′s: forget it Jake, it’s Nostalgiatown).

  13. Down the rabbit hole we go…

Nolan Thomas (born Marko Kalfa) was a Latin freestlyle artist known for his 1984 single “Yo, Little Brother,” which peaked at #57 on the Billboard Hot 100 While Marko did appear in the music video he did not actually perform the vocals on this particular track, Elan Lanier sang them.

Rest easy, all. Elan is going just fine, currently living in Chilltown, NJ… http://www.myspace.com/elanlanier

  14. Why is Cory Feldman hanging with Prince, Cindy and the Boss?

  15. the original ‘Brothersport’

  16. His socks in the beginning are just simply insane. There was a lot of drugs going on in the making of this video.

  17. Oh, man. Two tips in one week? I am on so much fire right now! (Seriously, I should stop, drop and roll down this incredibly high mountain of self-gratification. Until I die.)

  18. Lay off the meth, Sesame Street!

    • I was going to say! I loved the Oscar The Grouch garbage can surprise pop up! Also, was that blood at 0:17?
      Emo lil bro!

  19. This might be one of the best things ever posted on Videogum. I was laughing and clapping like a seal the whole way through.

  20. This song was actually kind of popular and I think I had the 7-inch, but I don’t remember ever seeing this video.

Now I’m off to get my colonoscopy. You have to get them when you get to be my age.

  21. What I’ve learned from this video is that my little brother is going down the wrong path if I find him doing back flips in the street and hanging out with children impersonating Prince, Cyndi Lauper and Brue Springsteen. Further, random fist pumps are immediate confirmation of his juvenile delinquency. Thanks, Nolan Thomas!

  22. Little Prince is your boyfriend. You do drugs in a tiny unstable house on the horizon.

  23. Now, I don’t remember the eighties very well (cause of the coke), but I’m pretty sure that’s what it looked like. I distinctly remember dance-walking downtown to see some MOOVEEZ with my crew dressed as various eighties icons. All they were missing was Wham! guy and Like A Virgin Madonna.

  24. ole  |   Posted on Sep 16th, 2009 +3

Why doesn’t Spencer Pratt dance like that all the time?

  25. ole  |   Posted on Sep 16th, 2009 +1

Why doesn’t Spencer Pratt dance like that all the time?

  26. I am somehow reminded of Lily Allen’s video for Alfie, I was also pumped to see a mini-Ric Ocasek.

  27. Jon  |   Posted on Sep 16th, 2009 +5

God, this made my… I don’t know… month? Maybe longer? I can’t even begin to describe how much I am in love with this.

  28. Peggy said it best “I’m so high right now.”

  29. i like how mini Ric Ocasek is as charmingly awkward as the real Ric Ocasek

  30. Spot on with the munchkin reference. I felt the same way until the break-dancing at the end by little brother. Definitely induced some Exorcist flashbacks.

    A sincerely frightening video.

  31. Is that Kirk Cameron playing Bruce Springsteen?

  32. i don’t even…i mean….how the hell…. seriously, what made the director of this video think of THIS as the perfect accompaniment to THAT song? how does something like this happen? i just…i don’t even know if i enjoyed it. did anyone else find this not so much awesome as mostly really disturbing?

  33. I can’t believe that not one, not two, but entire crews of people were involved in the making of this!

  34. I’m pretty sure that was the real Prince. looks to be about the right height?

  35. no shit, but I think the “little brother” is the little maharaja from temple of doom. Where do I begin to get to the bottom of this?…

    • Yes! I thought so too when watching it.

“Doing all the things a little brother shouldn’t do. Like drinking poisoned blood and messing round with voodoo.”

  36. This site is totally going to kill all of my seriously hard earned street cred yo, but if Michael Jackson had sung this song it would have been a hit. It’s actually not terrible…by terrible 80′s Michael Jackson-esque pop standards.

The video, on the other hand, is pure Fritz Lang brilliance.

  37. Also, let’s all sit by the fire and remember a time when Ric Ocasek was as big of a rock star as Prince and Bruce Springsteen. Actually, “let’s go home and rap to one another” about it. Tell your grandkids.

  38. langford  |   Posted on Sep 17th, 2009 +1

the little prince dance scene is perhaps the most perfect moment captured in the history of film.

  39. These children are deliberately trying to make themselves dance worse than what they’re instincts tell them. You can see it in their faces.

  40. This reminds me, that this weekend I’m totally need take my little Billy Idol wannabe brother out to see some mooveez, his little Prince friend is more than invited.

  41. Imagine the moment where “Little Prince”, now grown up and married, sat his wife down and showed her this video.

  43. mcdonalds  |   Posted on Sep 17th, 2009 0

this is the new MGMT video guys. joke’s over.

  44. Is that a tiny Ian McCulloch?

  45. Man I loved ths song and he was so cute in the video with outfit the big brother love it loved the bow tie.
