It is easy to poke fun at the 2nd and 3rd place competitors in the 2009 Pokemon Championships (whatever that is), because they’ve dedicated their lives to something that seems pointless and silly and nerdy and come up short, but you can’t poke fun at this guy. Seriously. He is the World Champion of something. Are you the World Champion of Something? No, you are not. (You’re probably not even the 2nd or 3rd place competitors, so actually let’s ease up on the poking fun until we start placing.) We all need to work a little harder, you guys. Someone has to be the champion of everything, why not us?! Let’s paint, exercise, and be the best in the world at something, even if it might seem pointless or silly or nerdy to other people. Let’s all find our Niagara Falls, and then be better than everyone else at Niagara Falls. You know? Lock it in. Let’s go. (Thanks for the tip, Larkin.)

  1. I thought this guy was already famous creating the numa numa video. Does this mean we have to find two Niagara Falls before we can start making fun of other world champions?

  2. I want to know what happened in 2002.

  3. 1:11 TWSS, just sayin’

  4. This guy is basically me, except instead of Pokemon it?s commenting too much on Videogum this week, and instead of being a champion I?m just kinda sad. :(

  5. Thought I was the champion of your heart. That’s kind of fucked up.

  6. Varsity Blues II – Nerdy Younger Brothers. In a world, where fathers are genuinely sweet and gently ease their kids into semi-competitive non-contact parlour games. Where the phrase, “I don’t want, your life!” is followed by laughter and hugs and the only winners are friendship and self-esteem.

Also – Squirtle (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=squirtle), that is all.

  7. I’d try, but between the Champion of Pokemon, Champion of his parents basement, and Champion of never getting laid, this guy is putting a monopoly on championships.

  8. Wait so he won with a Beedrill deck, that’s bananas. I am still trying to wrap my head around that one.

  9. Is there a champion of poking fun at teenagers who play Pokemon?

I understood waaaaay more of what he just said than I’d like to admit.

  11. Here he is with the other champions.

“The biggest misconception about Pokemon is that its a game for little kids”

  12. That is a fucking proud Papa.

I found the father’s very obvious love and admiration of his son quite touching.

    • Closer to 50,000 miles, DAD.

    • His father is definitely champion of Going Through The Greatest Lengths to Make a Meaningful Connection With Your Son. So, Bravo dad! I’m just going to say right now, I’m not sure I have what it takes to get into this worldwide Pokemon Somesortof Competition Thingy for my future son. Mmm, lemme just say I can’t SEE myself in that position.

  14. Papa prefers YuGiOh, so ive heard

  15. My most favorite thing about this video is that the son cant help but to make ashamed facial gestures at his father. Or maybe thats just Tourettes. I can’t really tell.

  16. Champions of inside jokes and smug commentary! I say that with love!

  17. Hidden due to low comment rating. Click here to see

I cried when the father, overcome with pride, kissed his son – but maybe it’s just because whenever I throw an interception my dad gets really angry. But, he just wants what’s best for me. I need to stop screwing up and throwing interceptions. What’s wrong with me?

    • Nothing is wrong with you. Now go out and get some ice cream and find a hug from someone you care about!

Well, there’s this girl I really like, and when she hugs me I feel better about myself. But, dad thinks that she is too much of a distraction and that I need to focus more on my football. So, I broke up with her. : (

  19. Hey guys, you know what? Way to go Stephen Silvestro!
    Thats what.

I am really impressed by this kid and his supportive father. I think that the father should win the world championship of good dads!

  21. You can watch a video of the final round here: http://www.go-pokemon.com/worlds/2009/content/updates/day3/video/vid3/TCG_Masters.mov
His hands were moving so fast, its like he could see the source code behind the game.

    • So much for that elephant in the room.

    • I just can’t do it. I want to upvote this so hard, but what if it’s out of his control? Fat. Fine. Make fun of that. Loser. Ok. Lampoon the hell outta that. But, this poor “kid’s” involuntary facial movements. Sorry. Downvote it is.

  22. SHUT UP, DAD. Quit stealing my limelight! I HATE YOU.

“You’re fucking out! I’m fucking in!” — Stephen Silvestro, as he drops the Beedrill and clinches the championship from a little Asian kid

  24. It is as if the ultimate stereotype of a Pokemon nerdlinger came to life, and I love him for it. Own that shit, big guy.

  25. ANYTHING IS POSSSSSIIIIIBLE!!!!

  26. Lo Puff  |   Posted on Sep 11th, 2009 +1

I think that guy and his dad are great.

  27. I love that you have become the unlikely defender of the most troubled deviants on youtube. Whether you?re affirming this sad bastard for being a Pokemon champion, that Sailor Moon dancing guy for living his dream, or poor old Carrot Top for?whatever he has done to himself, it always seems sort of sweet that you can find something nice to say about the bungled and botched.

On the other hand, the whole point of watching deviants on youtube is so you can feel better about yourself. Worried for the world, maybe, but better about yourself.

  28. he’s a regular Asthma Ketchum

For all the people leaving negative comments and acting all high and mighty like they’re actually cool… think about this (tho I’m sure most of you will just turn around and flame my post). What ever you consider ‘normal’ or cool, the next person may not. There really isn’t any real definition or guideline to label something cool, other than an individuals opinion. It’s kind of what makes the world unique… and interesting! Gasp people are different!? Why make fun of them for it? Your lives that pathetic you have to play yourself up compared to someone else to feel good?

I actually know Stephen and he is a very nice person as is his dad and the rest of his family. At the end of the day, I’d rather be cool in the eyes of someone like him and friends with someone like him, than the rest of you asshats who have nothing better to do with your time and life than trash others for doing something they enjoy. Get a life ya trolls.

    • You obviously miss the mark friend, go reconsider your beedrill deck.

    • Personally, I’m amazed at the genuine outpour of “aww’s” and “yay’s” for this kid and his awesome dad. I think your comment may be misguided, because this is almost as good as Videogum gets.

On the topic at hand–I don’t understand it, I’m not even sure if I like it, but goddamnit, am I happy for someone who’s found what they like to do, and is successful at it!

You go, Stephen Silvestro! I hope you and your dad have a very great steak dinner at the Sizzler, (the finest of all dinners) and, hey, have a good chat with your dad over a cold Mr. Pibb. Put down the Game Boy and the cards for a second, (just for a little while!) and relish the fact you have a father who is proud of you and supports your dreams, even if he doesn’t quite get it.

Because that is something that nothing, not winning a world championship, not us folks in the Intertubes, not even Satoshi Tajiri himself, could ever take away from you.

    • Flame on.

  30. PPL, PPILC, PCIL, PLLCIP aint got nothing on the PPCICL.

  31. I thought Pokemon was a game for little kids because of the electric mouse-thing gleefully windsurfing a wave of sparkles backdrop. But that was just my misconception.

i think this guy’s the machine character on 8 mm. Jesus, people have a lot of nerve to do this stuff. The father of this guy has a lot of nerve to be up there with his spawn
