  • Quentin Tarantino made a list of his top ten favorite movies of 2013 so far. I agree with many of his choices, especially The Lone Ranger. One of the greats! -TarantinoArchives
  • Amy Poehler wrote about an old summer job for the New Yorker, and it is a true Monday morning treat. -NewYorker
  • Here are all of the references in Guillermo Del Toro’s Simpsons opening from last night’s “Treehouse of Horror” episode, revealed. Guess how many I knew? Trick question I’m NOT A NERD. So I DIDN’T TRY TO FIGURE IT OUT. Also I DON’T KNOW ANYTHING.- /Film
  • Speaking of the Simpsons, it will never, ever end. -RollingStone
  • Warming Glow has ranked fall’s new network shows based on their Nielsen ratings, and the list is, as it usually goes when you see shows listed by their Nielsen rankings, kind of sad, but sometimes makes sense, but then also sometimes doesn’t make sense at all! -WarmingGlow

  1. The Simpsons Halloween episode wasn’t bad. It was better than it was for like the past 3 or 4 years. I really got spooked when they hanged Burns.

  2. I don’t typically need reasons to love Amy Poehler more, but that essay was wonderful.

    • Augh, seriously. My summer job after high school and before college was at a deli. Can you imagine being a 17 year old girl slicing roast beef for a bunch of middle aged rednecks? Oh my god I got relentlessly harrassed. It was like serving sliced meat and fried chicken to 200 Steve Winwoods a day.

  3. Oh Quentin Tarantino. I do enjoy your films, but you? Oh no, sweetie. Just no.

  4. Hey guys, I didn’t get a chance to go see Gravity this weekend, but I have today off , should I just go see a matinee by myself so I can participate in Movie Club? Will I have a panic attack? Will I look too sad?

    • I haven’t seen Gravity because it does seem panic inducing, but the more people go to see movies by themselves the more normal and less sad it becomes. So even if you look sad alone at the movies now, keep in mind that you are like a pioneer in solo movie-going.

      • Yes, maybe I will do it FOR SCIENCE! And GREAT JUSTICE!

      • I didn’t think I looked sad going to movies alone. I thought I looked like SUPER COOL INTELLECTUAL. The trick is to make sure everyone notices the pen and Moleskine notebook you have brought into the Fast & Furious screening. Notice how I used the word “screening?” That helps too.

    • You should do it! I went by myself on Friday and it was good that I wasn’t with other people because I don’t think I was able to say words for at least 10 minutes after it ended! It is super stressful and you will panic but it’s also soooo good.

    • I was seriously considering seeing it this weekend by myself (so what if I look sad! That’s what I say! Or at least what my therapist says?) but it also seemed to panic-attack inducing so I opted for watching Roseanne on the couch
