Uh-oh. Rumors about a Saul Goodman spinoff following the end of Breaking Bad have been floating around for the past few months, spoken about sometimes with excitement but more often with nervous slanty-mouth faces :-/, and it now looks like the series might actually be on its way. AMC and Sony released a press release this afternoon, saying:

AMC and Sony Pictures Television confirmed today that they have reached a licensing agreement for a spinoff of Vince Gilligan’s landmark AMC/SPT series Breaking Bad. As conceived, the new series is based on the show’s popular Saul Goodman character with the working title Better Call Saul. Plans call for Saul to be a one-hour prequel that will focus on the evolution of the popular Saul Goodman character before he ever became Walter White’s lawyer.

:-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ Bob Odenkirk is absolutely great and wonderful and the best, and he is great and wonderful and the best on Breaking Bad, and I would love for him to have his own television series, and someone should give him one right away, but I think he would have better luck with a television series that is not this television series! Eeek! I mean, who knows, obviously. Better Call Saul could be the next Frasier. Hahaha. Or something else? It could be okay. All I know for sure right now is that this is my face: :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ What does your face look like? This? ー( ̄~ ̄)ξ

  2. BOOOOO. In this case, prequel also means pre-Huell, so why even bother?

    • No, we can now see how Saul got associated with Huell and Kuby! Which means more Bill Burr AND more Lavell Crawford! I am PRO more Huell and Kuby!

Easy episode idea: team building exercise featuring Huell, Kuby, and Saul at the old Laser Tag park that Saul loves so much.

    • Maybe we’ll get some Mike Ehrmantraut?

  3. Looks like my “How Was Everyone’s Day” just got fucking dark.

  4. Right now I pretty much give Vince Gilligan all of my Tootsie Pops of Trust for he already owns my Cookie of Creativity.

    • While I do not agree 100% with this, and I remain skeptical, I can fully understand where you’re coming from, because Bryan Fuller and I have the same sort of relationship.

  5. O ~O

  6. I’m only on Season 2, so I’m really behind the curve on this, but I was excited to hear about this. At this point in my watching experience, I look forward to the scenes that he is in. Do things change as the series progresses?

    • Things take a bad turn in season 3 when he accidentally fathers a demon baby but he makes a graceful exit during season 4, when he decides to leave his life of shady dealings behind and becomes a very popular presenter on the Home Shopping Channel.

  7. If it’s half as good as the Carrie Diaries, then we’re in luck.

  8. BETTER IDEA: A sequel wherein Huell and Kuby, recently out of work because Walt is probably going to kill Saul, are forced to look for a new place to live on Craigslist. They respond to an ad, only to find out it’s from Badger and Skinny Pete, squatting in Jesse’s abandoned house (abandoned since Walt killed Jessie), and now the professional Huell and Kuby must somehow try to find a way to get along with their new, fun-loving roommates. Hijinks will ensue.

  9. Maybe it’ll be like law and order

  10. I obviously had to find the correct gif for this reaction, but like… I love Saul. He’s great. But I have zero interest in this spinoff. Zero. I also think it’s almost disrespectful to Breaking Bad? I don’t know, I’m probably taking it too seriously.

  11. Hey baby, I hear blue meth a-callin’,
    Bacon birthdays on scrambled eggs

    Quite stylish.

And maybe you faked being confused,
Fugue State! I got you pegged.
    Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha!

But I don’t know what to do with those bacon birthdays on scrambled eggs.
    Another callback again.

Saul Goodman has left the building!

  12. Umm, hey, how about a SPOILER ALERT next time?! Now we know that it won’t turn out in the end that this was all a dream.

  13. Twitter trends are perfect right now:

  14. I think there’s promise here, but I’m sort of skeptical. guess what I’m saying is …

    I’m not Sauld.

  15. More like better call…my vibrator…Too much?

  17. Kelly, you just made my day. A Saul spinoff would be fantastic.

  18. Odenkirk seems to be one of the hardest working people in show biz. Listening to how seriously he takes this role in interviews, I cannot imagine they’d expand this story without a real plan for doing something special.

I think healthy skepticism is great, but I have a weird amount of faith in this project.

    • Yes. I heard Odenkirk talking about it with PFT and it seemed he was into it. Hearing the producers wanting to get this done instead of the network is another plus. Just don’t call it Saul Goodman: Criminal, Lawyer.

  19. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
