It is getting more and more difficult to write jokey recaps of Breaking Bad, guys! LOL. In a perfect world, this recap would just be “AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH” over and over until we reached the 5 million word minimum and then we’d be done with it, but unfortunately we do not live in a perfect world, so. Speaking of imperfect worlds: The blue meth isn’t blue anymore! Wah-wah! #fart Todd tells Lydia that it’s because he overheated it and must have “cooked the blue right out of it,” and across the country a billion dorks tried to think of a good Tobias Fünke joke to shout at their friends. Lydia goes on and on about her stupid buyers and Todd quiets her with a sweet kiss proposal that maybe his uncles just murder them? Hahah. Oh, Todd. You may be cute, and you may be able to cook the meth kind of, but you sure are an awful dumb-dumb. Lydia uses her womanly charms to ask him to how about just cook the meth better, and he tells her he will. Problem solved. Amen.

(PS: He looked at her lipstick on a mug.)

He then receives THE call from Walt, where we left off in the last episode. “Perfect,” he says, “I was just talking about having my uncles kill people! Haha. Isn’t it weird when stuff like that happens? It’s like, would you even still be calling me if I hadn’t just mentioned it? Did I will this into existence? Hah. I know probably not. I just like to think about stuff like that, I dunno.” ROLL OPENING CREDITS.

Hank and Gomez argue about how to handle the Jesse situation, now that he’s ruined their “get Walt to confess to his crimes on tape and also maybe you die” plan. Hank tells Gomez that Jesse has another plan. “I know some evidence that that greedy asshole would never destroy” — Jesse explains that Walt has his money hidden someplace, and he knows who might know where it is. Gomez secrets away this person and confirms with Hank back at Hank’s purple house, and blah blah blah, but the only part of the scene I can focus on is when Hank dumps brains on the floor:

WHAT?! Hank futzes around with it and says, to Jesse, “you’re up,” and it’s almost crazy how dumb I am, but for A WHILE I thought that Hank was going to make Jesse eat the brains?! Or something?! Hahaha. I could not figure out what the hell he was talking about, “you’re up.” 2 gross 2 think. Ew. He didn’t make him eat the brains, though. THANK GOD. Ugh. Kill everybody, for sure, but PUH-LEEZE do not make anyone eat gross floor brains. It’s revealed that Gomez had stolen and hidden Huell, whom Jesse believes knows where Walt’s money is hidden. They tell him that they’ve stolen him for his own protection — Saul sold him out, Walt has already killed Jesse (whom is shown lying on the floor next to the brains) (OOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH), Bill Burr is missing (though they did not call him “Bill Burr,” so it was a little difficult to figure out who they were talking about, but thank goodness they spent 15 minutes describing his character so I eventually got it) (“they kicked him outta Boston, he’s got red hair, he’s the guy who’s always with Huell, he looks like comedian Bill Burr”), etc. Huell tells them that he doesn’t know where the money is hidden, but does tell them how many barrels of money there was (“barrels?!” “barrels”), what the barrels looked like, and where he bought them. (Home Depot.)

He also tells him where they rented the van, that Walt had a shovel, and that they had to wash it because it was dirty, as if Walt had driven it off-road, BUT THAT’S ALL HE KNOWS. Hahah. It was a little bit like watching Law & Order for a sec. “All I know is that Walt said something about hiding the barrels in the desert and that the coordinates are on, I don’t know, a lottery ticket, and that it also happened to be — I don’t know if this helps — the same place where he and Jesse had their first cook? Listen man, that’s all I know, can I get back to work?” Anyway, but, so he tells him the stuff about the car, and Hank and Gomez leave. They tell Huell that he’s free to go and he’s free to use his phone and he’s free to talk to whoever he wants, but just so he knows, if he does any of those things he’s going to be murdered. Hahah. Feel free, though! Just, you know, if you want to be lie murdered! Up 2 you!

In the next scene, Walt talks to Todd and his uncles about killing Jesse. “Rat patrol?” an uncle asks. Walt does not know what he means for a few secs because Walt is VERY slow on picking up euphemisms this season. He explains that Jesse is like family, and he isn’t a rat (oh, but he is!), so can they please murder him nicely? They agree that they will murder him as sweetly as they can, but ONLY IF Walt comes back and cooks for them. EEP! Every time we think he’s out, they pull him back in because he wants them to murder Jesse because he’s too big of a coward piece of shit to do it himself! He agrees to do one cook, only after the job is done. “We could do him tonight, if you want?” says the uncle. Walt would super love if they could kill him tonight, but he doesn’t know where Jesse is. He does know, though, how to flush him out. Ugh. UGH LET’S JUST GET TO IT.

Walt shows up at Andrea’s house and tells her that he needs to talk to her about Jesse. She invites him in, which would really work out for the show if it were the thing about the devil rather than vampires, and introduces him to Brock. “You met Brock before, right?” “Yes, yes I have! When I poisoned him!” Brock gives him some serious “you poisoned me” ‘tude.

Walt tells Andrea that Jesse is using again, he can’t get a hold of him, and he has a bad feeling about it, and can you call him please? Andrea calls and for a second it sounds like she’s actually talking to him, which is a dirty trick to play on poor old evil Mr. White, but it turns out that she is just leaving a message. #PRANKED So, Walt leaves and tells the uncles that Jesse should turn up soon, thinking that he is so smart, omg, cannot b-leave how smart he is CUT TO: Hank getting Andrea’s message. “Nice try, asshole,” he says and also the rest of us say!

Post-message getting, Hank comes back to his purple house to tell his boys the bad news: The car rental place doesn’t have GPS on their cars. NOOOOOOO! But Walt doesn’t know that they don’t know where he buried his money barrels, and Hank has a back up plan! YAAAAAAAAAAY! (Also: Gomez is very easy to give up at every turn. What’s up, Gomez? If you don’t want to solve the crime, you can go home!)

Back at the car wash, Walt Jr. is just KILLING it behind the register until local celebrity Saul Goodman comes in and throws everyone a bit off of their game.

SAUL! Hahah. Walt Jr. goes bananas about him, and, you know, it’s nice to see Walt Jr. smile. I hope he doesn’t get murdered because if his father’s countless errors in judgement LOL! Saul has come to let Walt know that Huell is gone — they can’t find him and he isn’t answering his phone. Jesse’s still missing, too. “Maybe he hasn’t gotten the message yet?” is Walt’s guess as to why, which is very funny. “I’m still very confident about the message, once he knows that Andrea wants to make sure he is okay he will come out in the open and then we can shoot him, easy peasy.” Saul, correctly, points out that Jesse is not as dumb as Walt thinks he is, and the message probably just made things worse. Saul, incorrectly, thinks that Jesse murdered Huell. AND THEN WALT GETS THIS TEXT MESSAGE!

AND THEN JESSE CALLS HIM AND TELLS HIM THAT HE FOUND THE BARRELS BECAUSE HIS VAN HAD GPS! SO MUCH LYING IS GOING ON! Walt races to the desert while Jesse taunts him on the phone, telling him that if he hangs up to call anyone or puts him on hold or hangs up for any reason he’s going to burn all of it. “AHHH, WHY DO I HAVE AT&T?!??” screams Walt, as he weaves in and out of traffic. Hahah. Seriously, though, Walt has maj teethface the entire time:

Gosh, it is tense. You should just watch the episode again? Go watch it again! Walt reminds Jesse of all the times he murdered people to save Jesse’s life, as much as his own, as he speeds through the desert. Jesse tells him he’s a manipulative liar. And then: JESSE STOPS RESPONDING! Uggghh. Did the call drop?! It is always so frustrating when you don’t know if a call dropped or if the person is just not responding because they are burning all of your money! Walt pulls up to the spot and shouts into the phone that he’s here, gets out of the car, realizes Jesse is not there, and then, D’OH! THAT WAS JESSE’S PLAN ALL ALONG! Walt takes the battery out of his phone and throws it to the ground, but it’s too late. He sees the gang in the distance, calls Todd’s uncles, gives them the coordinates, and tells them to hurry. UNTIL! UNTIL HE SEES THAT JESSE IS WITH HANK!

AHHHHHHHH!!! AHHHHHHHH!!! AHHHHHHHH!!! AHHHHHHHH!!! AHHHHHHHH!!! AHHHHHHHH!!! AHHHHHHHH!!! AHHHHHHHH!!! AHHHHHHHH!!! AHHHHHHHH!!! AHHHHHHHH!!! AHHHHHHHH!!! AHHHHHHHH!!! AHHHHHHHH!!! AHHHHHHHH!!! Defeated, he tells Todd’s uncles not to come. Hank shouts for him in the distance, telling him that it’s over, while he sits against a rock and tears up. This by itself would have been a very good episode! He comes out, drops his weapon, and Hank cuffs him. It is so good, jesus christ.

As Hank reads Walt his Miranda rights, Walt doesn’t break eye contact with Jesse. When it’s his turn to speak he shouts “coward,” Jesse walks towards him slowly, and spits in his face. IT IS GOOD. WATCH IT AGAIN! They have a bit of a scuffle, and each of them is placed safely in a car. Before Hank takes Walt in, he gives Marie a call to tell her that he got Walt. Oh no. “Things are going to be rough for the next couple of weeks, but they’ll get better.” OH NO. “I gotta go. It may be a while before I get home. I love you.” OH!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! HAAAAAAAAANK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At this moment you are almost certain that Hank is not leaving that desert alive, and your fears are realized when you see Todd and his uncles pull up behind them.

After a few tense moments, the shoot out begins. And just as quickly as the shootout began, the episode ends. And then you remember that you haven’t been breathing since Walt walked out from behind that rock and you are about to die if you don’t start breathing again! Jesus christ! THIS SHOW! Is Hank dead?! Hank can’t die, right? Not after that phone call that make it seem like he was definitely going to die? Jesse has to survive, right? Gomez is going to die though, probably? GUYS! WHAT! IS! GOING! TO! HAPPEN! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

      • It’s Kuby you’re looking for? I can see it in your eyes.

    • It was weird as hell seeing Huell pop up in Its Always Sunny last week

    • That whole scene, I was like, After tricking him into staying in that room for eternity, you could’ve at least given him a sandwich before you left/

      • Oh no! I was giggling when I went to upvote this and I accidentally downvoted :( Next time, don’t be so funny and we won’t have this problem.

  2. I didn’t like this one that much. Aside from the shootout with the comically inaccurate hitmen that looked more like a deleted scene from an old A-Team episode, the flash forward from the beginning of the season robbed the drama from the arrest scene. We know Walt isn’t going to jail. You showed us!

    • Oh man, that shootout. How did Hank and Gomez not get hit? They were standing out in the clear with an army of guns pointed right at them. One of the more ridiculous/cliched things on Breaking Bad, especially combined with the “I won’t be home for a while, I love you” Hank-Marie phone call which telegraphed the whole thing.

(I’m still crazy excited for next week, though. Dangit, show!)

    • I also thought it was weak to leave it as a cliffhanger like that. There’s no way Hank and Gomie should be able to escape that alive. Why must I be frustrated by this for a week?

    • I had a weird moment when Hank, Gomie and Jesse pulled up and Walt realizes that he’s screwed when I though Walt might turn his gun on himself. And then I remembered the flash-forwards and it kind of deflated the scene a bit for me.

    • But we don’t know HOW he gets out of this situation and then escapes to New Hampshire. Is it Sunday yet?

      • Right, but like Antonia said in the comment above, knowing the future eliminates several possibilities and definitely lowered the tension of that scene several notches for me.

        • It actually could have made sense if he was arrested. If the show is trying to be realistic, Hank’s actions almost certainly would have led to a mistrial, and Walt could have walked. That would explain the Heisenberg graffiti in his abandoned house, and that he chose to grow his hair out and change his name to keep a low profile after a very public trial.

          • It’s weird they build up dramatic tension about how Hank’s career would be over if he revealed all he knows to the DEA but that seemed to go by the wayside in the last few eps?

Also I’m making a strong guess that Gomez is dead, Hank is probably dead or dying (he had better cover behind the vehicle) and Jesse ran away given his reaching for the door. Whether he will make it far depends on Walt, I believe. If Walt says only Hank & Gomie were there then perhaps Jesse escapes – if not I can see a situation where Jesse is forced to cook for the white power guys (White power – haha) and Walt goes free because they don’t need him anymore?

          • Buying a big gun from a guy in a diner bathroom is one way to keep a low profile.

          • I just got the White Power thing. That can’t be accidental. Thanks, Bubbles.

          • Hank knows it’s a career-ending thing. He’s resigned to it, knowing the more important thing to him is taking Walt down. It hasn’t gone away. Hank’s accepted it and is getting shit done.

If you are referring to the video Walt made that implicated Hank and mentioned his hospital bills, that was before Hank had anything on Walt, and it was before he had Jesse, so it was before he had his current game plan, which is what he just enacted in this episode.

    • Knowing Walt isn’t going to jail shouldn’t be a reason to dislike this episode. Although there is that theory that Walt’s new glasses from the flash forward are prison issued glasses.

      Also:

      • Thanks but I will continue to like or not like things based on my own feelings. It lowered the tension for me, enough that I noticed. Glad you liked it though!
Also, awesome that I am getting down-voted for saying that I did not 100% love this particular episode.

      • Maybe Walt goes into witness protection bc he agrees to turn on Lydia and everyone

        • I thought this briefly way back in the first flash forward with the NH license, but then he bought the big gun and now Hank and Gomie should be dead. My best guess now is the Nazi’s get a hold of the recorded phone conversation and try to use it to blackmail Walt into cooking, and keep Jesse around as a plan B.

  3. How cute was it that Todd’s ringtone was “She Blinded Me with Science”?

  4. I CAN’T EVEN RIGHT NOW!!!

I wonder if anyone had the presence of mind to also record that fake, “I’m burning your money, please mention all the people you’ve murdered to try and manipulate me,” call. I hope so!

  5. My thinking is that after Walt escapes with the help of the Nazi dudes, they demand he cook for them in the next episode since they shook hands on an agreement and even though those Nazi dudes are Nazis and therefore very untrustworthy, they’re the types who think a handshake is the ultimate contract so they demand the promised cook! Walt, of course, wants nothing to do with this so he escapes to New Hampshire (penultimate episode is called Granite State, New Hampshire’s motto, and we know from the flash forwards that he escapes to there, or at least makes it seem like he escapes to there) but I suspect that the Nazi dudes keep after him (Nazis are very persistent, be it a handshake meth-cook deal or crazy, backwards views on the various races of the world) and Walt’s solution is to buy the big fuck-off machine gun in the Denny’s bathroom to deal with them, since they obviously have some serious firepower of their own (and seriously, if everyone EXCEPT the Nazis dies on this show I will be very upset). BUT WHAT IS THE RICIN FOR?!?

    • I feel like he could never trick Jesse into eating or smoking anything he gave him. Maybe Todd or Lydia?

    • Based on their accuracy with guns, I think Walt will walk up to the Nazis while they are shooting at him and just throw the ricin in their faces one at a time.

    • The ricin is what bothers me the most! I genuinely cannot imagine a scenario in which Walt needs ricin but can’t just make more himself, instead of driving across the country to get the stuff he left behind. There has to be some other reason for it; sentimentality, maybe? No idea.

        • “Why don’t you just kill yourself?” That line felt a little foreshadowy to me.

        • Ricin is a very horrible death BUT the big thing about ricin is how undetectable it is. The only thing I could see would be some sort of insurance policy but must be natural causes situation. Or similar. Someone has to think he died naturally for some reason and the cancer isn’t fast enough or something.

  6. Don’t know why everyone is complaining about lack of accuracy in the shootout. Hank and Gomie only had a handgun and a shotgun respectively. As for the Nazis, clearly Low Winter Sun was in their eyes.

  7. I like to think of Kuby’s disappearing as a VERY detailed prequel to Bill Burr’s career.

  8. I think they’re all dead (Hank, Jesse, Gomie). I think it’s necessary for the story arc – that heartwrenching scene where Walt realizes he’s caught and almost looks relieved? And the tear? I texted my friend and said “I can’t remember why I hate Walt, help!” and she said “me too!” And now with this ending, it’s Walt’s fault but it’s not his FAULT, you know? Like he didn’t want this. And much like season 4 where Vince manipulated me from episode to episode, I’m now reinvested in whatever’s going on with Walt in the future.
I took a Xanax right before the last scene and it kicked in about 10 minutes after the show ended, which is good because I was literally shaking.
I knew something big had to happen, but I am apparently an idiot because I didn’t think about the nazis ONCE until my friend texted me that and I actually gasped and then started pacing.
RIP Jesse, RIP Hank, RIP Gomie. RIP me, really. I’ve done nothing today but read recaps and I’m listening to the podcast now. (SORRY WORK).

  9. Holy moly, you guys, as soon as Walt told Uncle Jack not to bother coming, I was SURE Hank was gonna die. And then the longer the arrest scene went on, I was more and more sure, and then less and less sure. And then when he called Marie and said he loved her and it might be a while before he was home, I was 800% certain he was going to die. Then things went crazy, and now I’m not even sure what I’m sure of anymore.

    • This is why I never EVER call my loved ones to tell them I’m going to be late but that I love them. Stupid TV.

      • Wasn’t the Marie phone call SO OBVIOUS, though? Like, too obvious a setup that he’s going to die? Maybe I’m just in denial.

        • yeah it was SO OBVIOUS i almost feel like he’s going to live, because otherwise i’m going to be real upset they push his death back a week for cliff-hanger purposes

  10. What a twist that the real tragedy of this show is that Hank never got to fully realize his true gifts as a trick photographer.

  11. I wish Walt had interrupted Hank to tell him that “barbecue grill” is an oxymoron. Also, what happened with the badges? Did Hank and Gomie forget their stinking badges?

    • I assume that, bc this is a VERY off-the-books investigation, they didn’t want to bring anything that ID’ed themselves as DEA agents, so as not to arouse suspicion/get themselves in any trouble.

    • I wish he had interrupted to tell him that barbecuing and grilling are two different things, and that barbecuing is done in a pit, not on a grill, come ON Hank, get it together!

    • I figured that they didn’t want to take the risk of moving their hands off their weapons for even a second, as that would possibly give the crazy Nazi’s with machine guns a better shot

      • nah i figured that too, the nazis really didnt care if they were cops or not and could probably figure out they were dea, they just wanted an opening to shoot at them while they were reaching for their badges

  12. Leave it to Saul to still rock the hot pink even with a beat up face and fearing for his life.

  13. Initially I thought the brains were disgusting food for somebody’s junkyard dog.

And the ending makes me so excited because I think I know what happens but I’m not sure, like some bloody, drugged out Christmas Eve.

  14. I still haven’t watched Breaking Bad (I know, I know! I just haven’t had time!), so when I read these posts I’m all:

  15. “Ah, nice orange flame!” -Jesse should win an award for ad-libbing what burning money looks like.

  16. Bae caught me dyin’

  17. “You should just watch the episode again? Go watch it again!”
“IT IS GOOD. WATCH IT AGAIN!”

    Never change, Kelly!

  18. VINCE CANT KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THISSSS

  19. Gomie don’t play that.

  20. All this Kuby/Bill Burr stuff is consternating!
We now know his first name is Patrick and his job description is ‘Fixer.’

    Huell’s last name is Babineaux!

  21. Since Jesse recognized the area as their first cook site, I’m pretty sure he made it out of Walt’s car during the shootout and took shelter in the Cow House he knew to be in the area.

  22. Did the call drop?! It is always so frustrating when you don’t know if a call dropped or if the person is just not responding because they are burning all of your money!
