CHUCK BASS?! Just kidding, kind of. Chuck Bass got pretty Jean Valjean-y in, I think, the second-to-last season, but if we’re going to be a Jean Valjean from Gossip Girl it would obviously have to be Gossip Girl himself. Or, remember when Serena ran away almost married the guy from 7th Heaven and changed her name to Sabrina, or whatever? Hahah. She could play Jean Valjean! Who else? Chris Gethard? Hugh Laurie? Michael Ian Black? Read the blub and then we’ll brainstorm some more. From Deadline:

Rob Thomas is turning to a great European classic for his next series project. The Veronica Mars creator has teamed with actor-writer Graham Norris for a drama inspired by Victor Hugo’s novel Les Misérables.

Written by Norris, the contemporary take is a primetime soap about a brilliant lawyer running a legal exoneration program who fights to evade the consequences of his own unjust conviction many years before. He must navigate high society, continue his mission of saving innocent people, and manage his tumultuous family and romantic life — all while staying one step ahead of a ruthless U.S. Attorney who refuses to let the ghosts of the past die.

WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW. Tumultuous family and romantic life? Can’t a guy catch one break? So, Joel McHale? He already has the suits for it. Hmmm. Batman? I know Batman is going to be busy with Batman Vs. Superman, but he’s always busy, I feel like. He could handle it. Chandler? David Cross? I don’t know, I feel like I’m a little all over the map but somehow TOTALLY on point! What do you think? Conan O’Brien?

  1. Can ghosts die?

  2. What the fuck is this even talking about?! Jean Valjean wasn’t unjustly convicted! He was a straight up criminal who was almost arrested for stealing silverware (WHICH HE ACTUALLY DID DO), but the Bishop said it was a gift, which is what set him on the path to being a better person! That’s actually the OPPOSITE of an unjust conviction!

He also wasn’t ever in love, as far as I recall. He was a father figure to Cosette, and took care of Fantine, but I don’t think it ever turned romantic. This is hogwash, Rob Thomas! Hogwash!

    • Wasn’t he convicted as a child of stealing bread to feed his starving sister? And Javert was chasing him because he ran away from the prison or chain gang or wherever they sent him? And while he was on the run he stole the stuff from the priest who showed him kindness but he wasn’t convicted of that because the priest covered for him, so he decided to be a good guy from then on? Ok I’ve seen it a few times, so what!

      • yea kate’s righttttttttt

      • Nobody will read this, but he was an adult when he stole the bread and was in prison for so long because he kept trying to escape without success. He was let out after 19 years but even after the silverware incident he couldn’t get a fair shake because of his past, so he changed his identity, which was a crime because you were required by law to show your convict papers. So you’re both right, sort of. Hugo went to great lengths to justify his criminal behaviour, and the law was pretty shitty in those days, but he did straight up break the law a bunch of times and although the laws were not very fair, he was never unjustly convicted because he 100% DID break them.
