Well? How was it? GIFs or it didn’t happen.
I couldn’t go! I came down with a nasty case of ryoma and couldn’t leave the house.
Don’t know about The 2013 Unofficial Videogum Monster Meet Up In Chicago, but The 2013 Unofficial Videogum Monster Meet Up In Park Slope was sparsely attended to say the least:
The 2013 Unofficial Videogum Monster Meet Up in Chapel Hill was similarly bare.
As was the 2013 Vermont Monster Meet Up.
Vegas was OK.
Portland was hideous as per usual.
Perfect attendance at the one at the park this weekend in Boston.
UGH FORGET IT!
Don’t mess up like this tomorrow night.
Here you go, manners.
Aw! Flanny! I’m unsure about tomorrow night! Trivia would be dope but I have a prior engagement that I don’t think I can get out of!
HOW, FLW!? HOW!!!!?
Is that a doodle? It totally looks like my mom’s dog, who is super awesome.
I had to miss Saturday due to other commitments, but Friday was fun. Mostly because I didn’t spend an hour sitting at the bar hoping I could figure out who the hell was in the Videogum group before needing to leave about 20 minutes later like last time. Also, I was much drunker this time.
I’m still kind of hungover.
Why is everyone being so tight-lipped about the meet up? I can only assume terrible things happened and a pact was made never to speak of them. Prove me wrong, monsters! Share some stories!
They’ll never find the bodies!
I’m going to ask some questions to get the conversation going.
1) Who was the most awkward in person?
2) Who was the LEAST awkward in person?
3) Who looks the most like their non-photo avatar?
4) Did anyone make out?
5) How many times did people high-five each other?
6) What did you eat?
1) Tell me everything about Chris Trash, no detail is too small
2) Did Steve Winwood show up?
3) How many times did someone yell “More sand!”?
3) Results are still being tabulated.
1) Two girls who showed up because of the poster. They knew nothing about Videogum, but hopefully they enjoyed themselves.
2) The 1 waitress whom everyone loved and looked like she could kick all our asses at once.
3) Patrick M
6) I ate a slice of pizza for the first time in 2 years.
7) it was very fun
8) deal with it
dammit, they finally changed the sunglasses guy emoticon
Thank you, sir. And plz more info on #4.
Please explain numbers 2, 4, and 8
Also good for those girls who stayed…you all were obviously very friendly and welcoming! Maybe they’ll start commenting!!! WELCOME NEW GIRLS!!!
A single waitress took care of 30+ single tabs and her biceps were solid like steel. Total badass, knew everyone’s name.
The 8) used to make the sunglasses emoticon guy.
Teresa!!!!! (but you can also call her “T”)
Based on what I could gather from twitter, it seems like Kelly’s mom has been cake this whole time?
Chocolate, of course.
It tasted like a giant, rectangular devil dog. (High compliment.) Thanks! I ate one piece because CAKE and later a second piece because SOMETHING NEEDS TO ABSORD TH
GODAMMIT absorb this whiskey.
That means the whole time we we are all..Da cake eatur!
You guys, I think we found Kelly’s Editor’s Choice.
Here’s one blogpost about it:
Who are all these people?
OMG you guys put your phones down!!!!!!!! Enjoy real life!
Haha! I love that not a single picture had anyone with their phones away.
that’s awesome and hilarious…related: last night I went to dinner at a fairly fancy/delicious restaurant that I have been excited about for awhile (it was so delicious and awesome…seriously) and at the table next to us was a couple who was probably not on a first date because Sunday night, but were not married (no rings…it’s possible they are married), but anyway, the woman spent the ENTIRE dinner on her phone texting/internetting/facebooking/etc. It made me wonder a lot of stuff about their relationship and her life. I mean, had she been to this restaurant before? She was pretty skinny, so maybe she doesn’t care about food? Or decor? Or the poor soul who likely has to spend many meals like this? Anyway, I’m glad she was able to find entertainment throughout dinner, but seriously, what an asshole*.
*lately I’ve been a big fan of this whole “if someone wrongs you in some way, it’s better to brush it off as him or her having a bad day or whatever” but I’ve also discovered lately that some people are just assholes, and that’s easy to brush off too. Because they have to go home and be assholes, but I get to go home and be me…and I’m pretty great.
tl;dr: people on their phones while with people are stupid.
OMG how did I NOT know this was happening? This would have been a way better way to spend my saturday than looking at paint swatches and window locks (no exaggo).
What kind of window locks?
Good followup question.
That IS a good question – that it took at least 10 people (mostly members of my family and our fix it guy – with whom we must speak only polish (none of us speak polish) so that makes it really fun – to figure out.
Patrick M put a lot of great pictures with names on twitter. Everyone’s so cute.
Ahh, really wish I could have met everybody. Of course, the first meetup after I finally start commenting is held where I grew up, not where I am. Life is hard, guys. But glad it was fun!
This is as close to GIFs as we got, I think. https://t.co/XM5dAAK0u4
I instagrammed a lot of it. My username there is the same as here with an underscore.
The Wurst did The Best instagrams, you guys.
I would never say this to his face, but Chris Trash did an amazing job organizing everything. The bar worked out great and was very accommodating, with staff occasionally peeking in to watch the compilation of classic YouTubes Chris put together.
And also: KCC posters, custom drink specials (The Gwyneth and The Topher Grace), CVS Bangers, people flying from both ends of the country to attend. Good job, all.
What’s in The Gwyneth and The Topher Grace?
This was very much the best time I’ve had in such a long time. Non-stop fun with Monster friends all weekend. I seriously had so many Topher Graces it was a problem, I had 3 more than they charged me for. YES this was a real drink only for the meetup.
Also, The Topher Grace>>>The Gwyneth.
In retrospect, I think an opportunity was missed to make The Gwyneth an absurdly expensive drink that nobody could afford.
YES. (Though if you drank as many as I did, it was an absurdly expensive drink that no one could afford).
Can I assume the Topher was served “up”?
My dissenting opinion: The Gwyneth was better. The weekend was amazing. I think some folks aren’t weighing in yet b/c they’re stuck in airports b/c of the sequestration + airport wifi being expensive.
the topher was better you are wrong i signed in for the first time in like 2 years just to tell you that. also to talk about how dreamy teresa was. teresagum
This sounds like fun. How do you determine which city will host? White smoke?
I AM MARRIED TO ALL OF THESE PEOPLE NOW NO TAKEBACKS
Wow look at all those souls you stole
Thank you for honoring my insane privacy needs and making my pic really small.
I thought it would karmically balance out my new desktop wallpaper
I vote to hold the next big Monster meetup in Dallas!
NYC? Scranton, PA? Boston?
Scranton PA Scranton PA!!!!!
Wait one more
I’m super bummed I could not meet you internet friends! I was too busy DANCING and celebrating being a master of computers.
YOU: HARD BODIED, HARD WORKING WAITRESS
ME: MONOPOLIZING THE PHOTO BOOTH
CALL ME AND YOU CAN WIPE AWAY A SINGLE TEAR FROM MY EYE
I am so jealous of each and every one of you. Jerks (JK I LOVE YOU IF YOU DO IT AGAIN INVITE ME FORGET ABOUT THE ‘JERKS’ THING HAHAHA)
Sorry, we have a Strict “No Kates allowed” rule.
SO BUMMED I MISSED THIS! I was busy maid of honoring though, and that was pretty fun and exciting too. Life is full of choices and trials I guess. (BTW, hi guys! I know I haven’t been around lately, [work!] but I miss all your pretty little avatar faces.)
More tattoos! Never forget!
i had so. much. fun! I was nervous it would be awkward but it was just the best! I was trying to explain to some friends why i had to be late to their party, “oh i have to meet up with these people who love the same website i do” and it’s so ridiculous but i feel so lucky to be in a world where something like this can happen!
ugh, you guys! i’m so sad that i wasn’t able to go to this and be too scared and awkward to talk to anyone and end up sitting by myself playing burger time on my phone! (i realize this may come off as sarcastic, but please believe me when i say that i am being one million percent sincere. you all seem great!)
I had DA BEST time!!! I think im still hung over
I’m so sad I missed this. LA 2014, guys. It’s gonna happen.
Can’t believe we pulled this off. Good work guys, we deserved it. #noonewillevenseethis
