After he passed, I used to just sit in my husband’s chair, breathing in his scent of hair oil and roast beef, wondering when it would be my turn, but then I found a mildewed envelope with some of Raymond’s old coins inside. I used to think that he just used his collection as an excuse to avoid spending time with me. Well now he’s in heaven, collecting God’s coins as an excuse not to spend time with the angels. I took those bastards to Good Ole Tom’s and I got $2,500. I used it to buy my dog Popcorn some new barrettes, and I bought myself a shortwave radio so that I can hear the police band. 12 ambulances went out today. None of them were for me. Thank you, Tom. Tyre antiques dealer takes visitors on journey to bygone era
Ashqar’s collection of old Lebanese coins that were used in the days of the Ottomans and the French often lure shoppers back to days of yore. “With five pennies we used to buy two ice-cream cones,” volunteers Hussein Zein, a customer in the store.

  1. Good ole Tom! Back in my high school/American days, I used to go by that place a million times. Too bad you didn’t get a commercial with Tom himself, dude looked like what you expect the graverobbers from Tom Sawyer to look like.

    • Considering Mark Twain lived in Hartford, I wouldn’t be surprised if Good Ole’ Tom was his inspiration for the character! I’m guessing that craggy old coot is some kind of immortal shapeshifter, come to collect the coins and gold jewelry of the dead to offer safe passage across the River Styx.

  2. In 2075, students will study Gabe Delahaye alongside Walt Whitman and William Faulkner in their Intro to American Lit classes.

  3. I don’t know if it was a chain or a scam or what, but there was a Good Ole Tom’s in Tallahassee in the ’80s in the Northwood Mall that ran commercials just like this. I used to buy bags of old stamps there during my stamp-collecting phase, before I realized that my prettiness-based stamp value system was not shared by the American Philatelic Society. Good Ole Tom!

  4. The background music reminds me of Ecco the Dolphin.

  5. these commercials are a connecticut institution, simply bizarre, all good ole tom commercials are nuts

  6. yeah, i was in ct this weekend and they were on every five minutes. yikes.

  7. I’ve noticed that they usually run an ad for Fast Eddy immediately after a Good Ole Tom’s commercial, which makes me think that the two are partners trying to appeal to different demographics….

  8. This feels like a D-Listed ‘Hot Slut Of The Day’ right here.

  9. I’ve been in Connecticut for six years, now, and every year gets more and more like the scene in “Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey” where they’re in Hell and they’re going from awful room to awful room, experiencing their most horrible childhood memories magnified by the powers of Satan.

That said, Good Ole Tom plays its ads right before the Colon Cleanse for Christ guy, who is followed by ads for Bob’s Discount Furniture. Connecticut is the worst.
