The daring new movie from the director of Blue Valentine, The Place Beyond the Pines is a sweeping emotional drama powerfully exploring the unbreakable bond between fathers and sons.

Luke (Academy Award nominee Ryan Gosling) is in constant motion, a high-wire motorcycle stunt performer who travels from town to town with the carnival. Passing through Schenectady in upstate New York, he tries to reconnect with a former lover, Romina (Eva Mendes), only to learn that she has in his absence given birth to their son Jason. Luke resolves to forsake life on the road and to provide for his newfound family, taking a job as car mechanic with Robin (Ben Mendelsohn). Robin soon discovers Luke’s special talents, and proposes to partner with him in a string of spectacular bank robberies. But it is only a matter of time before Luke will run up against the law – which comes in the form of Avery Cross (Bradley Cooper).

Avery is an ambitious rookie cop navigating a local police department ruled by the menacingly corrupt detective Deluca (Ray Liotta). When Avery, just beginning to balance his profession and his family life with wife Jennifer (Rose Byrne) and their infant son AJ, confronts Luke, the full consequences will reverberate into the next generation. It is then that the two sons, Jason (Dane DeHaan) and AJ (Emory Cohen), must face their fateful, shared legacy.

  1. I don’t know if it’s my FAVORITE, but I feel comfortable listing Jackie Brown as one of my top 5 fav films. “I can do dat.”

    • before I looked at the check which was of $4871, I didn’t believe …that…my sister woz like they say trully bringing home money parttime from there computar.. there mums best friend started doing this for only about 16 months and at present cleard the mortgage on their appartment and purchased Mazda. we looked here,…………….

  2. That is way more pressure than i can handle, picking my favorite movie. That’s like asking me to pick my favorite kid or my favorite gin. So i am going to lowball and say Pink Flamingos. Then i will comment on the rest of the Monsters saying that’s my other favorite.

  3. I think I gotta go with Fargo. Are we square??

  5. Do I get bonus points for saying that my favorite movie is Drive? Because I think it is.

  6. Oh my goodness what a terrifying question. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is an acceptable answer, yeah?

  7. I gotta say The Dark Knight. Simply a masterpiece.

  8. Some great picks videogumers. I could get behind Fargo, Eternal Sunshine, and Jackie Brown, but I’ll try to throw different movies out there. Also It depends on how we are choosing to define “favorite.” I could watch a movie like Big or Catch Me If You Can basically every day, but a movie like Children of Men, which i’ve seen 3 times, makes me think and feel like few movies have to this point.

  9. This is always such a tough question because I have favorite movies in about 5 different categories, but if I had to pick one that I could watch every single day for the rest of my life and never get sick of and love it just as much every time, it would be Clue.

  11. Ahem. No Country For Old Men.

  12. Favorite movie? My Blue Heaven always brings smiles and happiness.

  13. The Taste of Tea

  14. “The Big Chill”

  15. Um, also, there is no Thursday, March 15, at least not this year…

  16. Very hard to pick. But I think “The Lives of Others” is probably my favorite. Such a beautiful and rewarding movie to experience.

  17. there will be blood or something

  18. Magnolia.

But every time I say that I get a little embarrassed because of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Then I remember that PTA is so much better than Kevin Smith.

  19. Harold and Maude.

But really, I wanted to comment because this movie was shot in Schenectady, NY, the town right next to me, last summer, and I had a bunch of friends who essentially stalked Ryan Gosling while it was being filmed. Plus plenty of cool Capital District (NY) shots in the trailer. 518 represent!

  20. Canadian Bacon, because it exposes the racism against Canadians that has festered in the dark heart of the United States since time immemorial, too often trivialized and dismissed but always operating secretly within archaic traditions such as the discriminatory rules of this bogus contest.

I like this brave new world of no-downvoting.

  21. was going to say No Country For Old Men but since it is taken already, Muppet Christmas Carol

  22. pretty sure my favorite movie is Rushmore, can’t believe nobody else said that yet!

    ‘they’re OR scrubs.’ ‘O-R they?!’

  23. All About Eve!

  24. My favorite movie is The Apartment and I don’t like this “being logged in with Facebook” thing.

  25. I’m going to say “Blue Valentine” because damn it, if you’re not going to make this game relevant, then I will.

  26. Days of Heaven

    Thanks! bye!

  27. Shaun of the Dead!

  28. How do you even pick just one? I can’t even pick a favorite Ryan Gosling movie. Let’s just go with Crazy, Stupid, Love.

  29. Favorite movie would probably be Warrior.

  30. One of my favorite movies is Rushmore :]
