So, why does every Japanese TV show clip seen on the internet feature superimposed video of people reacting to what is on the screen? Who are these people in their little corner boxes, and why are they watching? Is every show a game show? Is it like the Japanese equivalent of a laughtrack or something?
I don’t really have an answer, nor have I really thought about it (I’m no Japanologist, duh) but if the choice is between a plethora of bizarre game shows (and some actual cool ones like Ninja Warrior) and crap like The Hills, Real Housewives of wherever, 2 1/2 Men, etc etc then I’ll opt for the more WTF Japanese programming 9 times out of 10.
i went to the zoo a few months ago and there was this orangutan vomiting a fountain of puke and then slurping it up, over and over again. it seemed genuinely amused by the disgusted reactions it was getting from humans on the other side of the glass, like a little orange frat boy.
After watching Death Sentence, a terrible movie starring Kevin Bacon as a father in search of vigilante justice directed by Saw's James Wan, Gabe embarked on The Hunt For The Worst Movie of All Time. This is his sad journey.

I agree! I am not criticizing! I just really wonder about those little boxes….it keeps me awake at night sometimes.
