So this video of a naked guy who was previously dressed as a wizard getting tased by cops at Coachella last weekend is getting pretty big (contains wizard nudity):

The naked wizard should go on late night TV to plead his case (I’m thinking Kimmel). But more important: the naked wizard is an interesting case of someone who appears to be a hero in real life (the crowd cheers him) but an object of ridicule on the web (all the blogs are making fun of him). He could be someone’s sociology thesis! (Thanks to Jeffrey and Michael for the tips!)

Hey, is it illegal to wear a wizards robe every day in public? I was walking around in my robe and a police officer told me to ?take that shit off and go home?, I was hurt, but I didn?t know if I was breaking any laws so I took it off and walked home. My town has no curfew. Well I just wanted to know. Is it illegal to wear a robe in public just for the soul purpose of the awesome look?? And yes I was fully clothed.. Tunic, pants, shoes, belt ect

  2. If there was ever a need for a NSFW tag…

  3. Well, I feel a little better about myself as a man now…

But seriously, those cops were way too excessive. He’s not a fucking grizzly bear, no need to tase his ass (pun intended) as many times as they did. Jesus.

  4. Let me be clear, I am rarely one to defend cops and this one comes with a nice chunk of salt, but to be fair, those cops did try for quite a while to just get the guy to put his wizard costume back on. They are not really allowed to let people run around their naked they seemed to just want him to get dressed and have a good time.

That all said, I am not sure how many times the man needed to get the tase. I am also not sure exactly why three men that size, with training I assume, had so much trouble restraining one naked man that was high on God knows what at that point. They were having some serious trouble with this particular wizard. Maybe it was the pressure, you know with the whole world watching and all.

    • Selena  |   Posted on Apr 24th, 2009 +58

It could have been the pressure- but I think the more likely reason is that the Wizard had put them under som sort of spell…

    • I watched the video and the naked wizard is high as a kite on something. I know someone who just got out of the academy. He has tons of horror stories from his teachers who are also cops about people who seem nice one second and the next are biting your thumb clean off. As soon as he stopped struggling and fighting the cops they would of stopped taseing him. These cops didn’t seem that bad. I’ve seen much worse.

  5. Best quote from the crowd at the end- “Freedom of speech holmes, Freedom of fucking speech.” I understand getting caught up in the moment if your in the crowd but let’s all make sure we’re on the same page here at civil libertiesgum. This man was trying to run around naked in a drug induced haze. While relatively harmless, that is a recipe to get tased anywhere in the world. I rule for the State of California.

LOL @ u. tasers are used all over the world. do your homework before you make assertions.

      • “New generation tasers have also been purchased, or are undergoing testing, by police
or military forces in other countries, including, reportedly, Argentina, Australia, Canada,
France, Germany, Israel, Malaysia, Mexico, Spain, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and the UK.”
        -Amnesty International (November 2004)

Freedom of speech only matters when you have something substantive to say. There is no excuse for the obvious excessive force in the end of the video, but my bias against this new sect of false ideologues (otherwise known as hipsters) has grown increasingly steady.

        • TruthNova  |   Posted on Apr 27th, 2009 +4

“Freedom of speech only matters when you have something substantive to say.”

Actually, the whole point of any guarantee of free speech is to protect _unpopular_ speech. Otherwise, there is no need for any kind of protection. That said, I would not agree that this nudist situation is a case of free speech infringement.

However, I would say that an officer ramming his knee into the stomach of a subdued man, is the beginning for the case of police brutality. That is what made the nude wizard guy struggle to get up in the first place. And that is what the cops used as an excuse for the tasing.

    • Selena  |   Posted on Apr 24th, 2009 +21

Because there wasn’t a wizard in the Neverending Story…There was a child-like princess… so, if he had been dressed as a child-like princess, maybe the cops wouldn’t have tased him. Ok, maybe they still might have tased him, just not as much.

  21. Laura  |   Posted on Apr 24th, 2009 +4

Jesus, are American cops not simply allowed to arrest people for indecent exposure? Would that not have been the most logical thing to do given he wouldn’t comply with the clothing?
The tasing was extreme and unnecessary, just cuff him and remove him from the festival, no?

    • RS  |   Posted on Apr 24th, 2009 +23

They tried, several times, to simply cuff him and remove him. He resisted in a major way, and the next step is tasering. Maybe they shouldn’t have tasered him quite so often, but they were within the rules.

      • Laura  |   Posted on Apr 24th, 2009 -1

Come on, you genuinely believe three beefy fully-trained cops would have had difficulty removing one man from a festival? They didn’t try to cuff him prior to tasing him, they were trying to put his clothes on. When he wouldn’t cooperate, they tased him.
He was outnumbered, an arrest would have been easily carried out by those guys.

        • pattybro  |   Posted on Apr 24th, 2009 +16

The thing with tasers is that, while many think they are perfectly non-lethal, they do sometimes result in death, and probably more often than you would think. They tend to be used and overused in situations like this one, where the alternative is just less convenient. I mean the guy was being an ass, but he was just naked at a music festival, there’s really no need to break out the taser, even if he was being completely non compliant. I think the cops were acting appropriately up until the taser got brought in, and they did give him multiple opportunities to redress and be on his way. Still, no need to taser the guy like a million times. in the neck no less. geez.

Take a few extra minutes and just wrestle the guy down. It’s your job. What did you think they did before tasers?

        • ex cop  |   Posted on Apr 26th, 2009 +1

No, when they took his arms and tried to put them behind his back, they were TRYING to cuff him. He resisted. Big time. They tried bare hands tactics and he resisted. They probably should have pepper sprayed him but the end result would have been the same. The cops were 100% right.

I think this is what’s really at issue here…do we want to live in a country where if you disobey a police officer then “the next step is tasering” (and no, that’s not what “the rules” permit).

Some people are evidently fine with people literally being treated like cattle, but the way I see it, cops are supposed to “serve and protect.” I don’t know who you think they can be protecting in this instance.

    • Joe B  |   Posted on Apr 25th, 2009 0

Laura, watch the video where they grab his arms in an attempt to handcuff him and he locks up and pulls away. Should those cops have to actually fight with this guy and risk breaking his (or their) bones in a knock down drag out fight? When the electricity stops flowing on the Taser, the pain is over and there are NO injuries other than the two tiny little holes from the darts. A little band-aid makes it all better. They did him a favor by not having to kick his resisting arrest ass until he was broken and bloody!

  24. The dud was really lucky that he didn’t die from that tasering. They shocked him several times right over the heart—A huge mistake and a out and out abuse of how a taser is to be deployed. Never around the heart and never in the neck–which the cop totally did. This Pig should have his badge taken away just for that.

  25. Tiara  |   Posted on Apr 24th, 2009 +19

Why is that everytime something happens it HAS to be those “American” cops or those “American” kids? Like we’re the ONLY country with funny penal (pun itended) systems? Let’s see how the wizard woulda faired in Asia! I think something woulda made the chopping block. This video amused me because from the first couple of seconds I was rooting for the cops. Granted some of their behavior caused the little wizard to get a lil pissy, such as knee dropping him in the groin and attempting to dress him like a four year old, but they DID try and talk him down and they DID try to restrain him with minimal force but the young Dumbledore wasnt feeling it. Because of that he got tased. I was okay with ANY action that turned his peen from the screen.

    • Laura  |   Posted on Apr 24th, 2009 -4

No one has mentioned America in a derrogatory way here. In fact, I’m the only one to mention it so far, and that was only to pose a question about arrestable offences.
So what’s your point, other than trying to find a conflict where there is none?

P.S. Asia isn’t a country, it’s a group of countries with very different laws. Stereotyping an entire continent demonstrates your ignorance.

And yes, I did mean stereotype. You stereotyped every Asian country, displaying your ignorance (or disdain?) of the wider world. You obviously don’t understand the meaning of the word ‘stereotype’, it doesn’t have to involve “slanty eyes”. Look it up.
I particularly enjoyed your final statement. Taking my insult and turning it around, a kind of ‘I know you are but what am I’ juvenile, unoriginal thing. Nice one, classy.

These cops are retarded. Sure the guy was high and naked and wouldn’t comply, but FFS you don’t tase someone right over the heart. He could have had a heart attack and died. They tased him on the neck too and that fat officer dropped his knee down on his chest with full force. He would probably say that he bent down and held him down with his knee, but that is BS, you can clearly see him drop his knee with full force. I hope all three of these douchebags lose their badges and get the living hell sued out of them for excessive force.

  39. Throwing in my 2 cents………the cops over tasered & over reacted. Why couldn’t they have just asked him once to put his clothes on & when he didn’t, handcuff him & take him away? They didn’t need to tase or knee him in the chest. It’s a naked dude on psycadelics! Who cares!?! He wasn’t going to harm anyone & the crowd got a good laugh at his nakedness (small peen). I feel like cops are always making big deals out of EVERYTHING.

I thought that the turning point came at 2:55 in when the fat cop dropped a knee with all his weight behind it on Naked Wizard’s kidney, while NW was lying fairly peacefully on his back. That made NW get up and try to run away, which caused him to be tazed and therefore fight back. Unnecessary escalation from the cops, IMO.

  47. I think he gets off on Tasers.

  48. I love that almost this entire SIXTY ONE COMMENT FILLED THREAD is made up of two kinds of people: those who wish to discuss the improper use of tasers and those who wish to discuss how small this man’s penis is.
    This is how wars start.

  49. He was rollin’ hard on X folks.. what’s the mystery? Any other “psychedelic” would have spiraled in a worse freak out than we saw …for sure. When you’re that “opened” your little head is the least of your concerns (especially during a struggle like this). As for the cops, it was messed up that they targeted the cervical portion of his spine and his heart as well… potentially deadly and desperate. But hey, I bet that was the highlight of their “crowd control” experience @ Coachella

How does freedom of speech come in to play when the guy is naked and refusing to act appropriately in public? He was not speaking, he was acting. The alternative is to let him run around nude, let him do whatever he wants, but where would you prefer the line to be drawn? What if he assaulted someone? Then a bunch of bleeding hearts would say “well where where the police? they could have stopped this”. The reality is that someone called the cops because they felt the situation merited it. I didn’t see very many people from the crowd trying to handle this wizard. And unfortunately for the cops once they are called they cannot leave until the situation has been dealt with. So next time you wish to insult cops remember this: if you hate them so much, next time you are in trouble or someone breaks into your car or someone threatens you or someone has a loud party next to your mom’s house, don’t call the cops if you dislike them so much. Call a hippie.

  52. fitzdacat  |   Posted on Apr 24th, 2009 +14

    1. Obviously the cops were less than motivated to engage in the necessary wrestling maneuvers to take the guy into the custody because they didn’t want to get anywhere near his puny penis.

    2. The taser clearly needed to be charged.

He should have put his clothes on when the police asked him to. The cops were more than fair with him. If he wants to walk around naked in public then he should go to a clothing optional beach or resort somewhere. For anyone who thinks the cops treated him badly, how about we send Wizard Boy to Iran or some other Arab country and see how well they tolerate this kind of nonsense.

i hope that “FREEDOM OF SPEECH” and “THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING” were both being used ironically…

and why do people KEEP saying that they should have asked him to get dressed and tried to cuff him…did you watch? they did those things for quite a while. he refused to cooperate. im sure it sucks to get tased and the knee-drop seemed harsh, but this guy had no intention on cooperating. he kept saying “i dont care what you do” and implying he wouldnt go peacefully.

  67. Isn’t tazering the neck kind of, I don’t know, dangerous?

  68. jennifer  |   Posted on Apr 25th, 2009 +4

This guy is a moron clearly, but tasering him was completely ridiculous. There were three very big police officers there who definitely could have cuffed him. I have seen much smaller cops deal with much bigger more aggressive people without tasering. Tasering should should only be used in order to avoid using a more serious weapon – and even that is obviously controversial. Tasering can kill especially when used on an agitated person, or if the person is high or drunk. And multiple tasering? Very dangerous.

  69. CRDFilm  |   Posted on Apr 25th, 2009 +3

The tasing was excessive, but the knee to the chest was clearly police brutality. I hope they all get a taste of their own medicine!

  70. micro  |   Posted on Apr 25th, 2009 +3

I found it quite difficult to watch. That said, the alternative, which some people are suggesting, is to have even one of these beefy cops go mano a mano with the Whiz and his Micropeen. One of those cops alone could have obliterated the guy, including blackened his eyes or broken his bones. Is that preferable to tazing? Tazing is temporary. There are marks if, as there were here, there are probes deployed. That’s where the higher voltage comes in. A normal person complies after the probes. Micropeen showed little effect, probably because he was high. Then they drive stunned the guy (that’s when they deployed it directly against his skin). That’s less powerful, I’m told, than the probes. The guy should have used passive resistance to make “his point.” Instead, the guy was slapping the cop on the shoulders. Right there, he could’ve been taken down. You don’t touch cops. That cop took it really well. Finally, remember there was a crowd there. Tazing was effective, because it was a clean show of force (unlike a fist fight/tackle) that allowed the cops to gain control of the whiz relatively quickly. Also it was overwhelming, so that the audience was unlikely to get physically involved for the whiz, like they might’ve been, watching a cop square off in a fight. Also the guy started waving stuff in the cops’ faces. For people who put their lives on the line, the cops were probably a little testy that the whiz had a weapon, or wld throw punches. And then resisting arrest. He should’ve sat down, gotten arrested, and argued in court for freedom of speech (although he would lose re: private land,and/or time/place/manner restrictions). That said, if there is a jury trial right for indecent exposure, guaranteed Molly McHousewife and Joe Retiree will convict him solely for his weenis.

Why were they so upset by him being naked?! He’s naked at a music fest, big deal. Just leave him alone and he’ll get dressed when he gets cold or bored.

Not a reasonable excuse for tasering, by any stretch of the imagination.

  73. Jo  |   Posted on Apr 25th, 2009 -1

Three cops can’t handle a naked guy so stoned he can barely stand without tasering him? I bet if they had tried to cuff him while standing (before the violence escalated and the tasering happened), he would’ve happily offered his wrists, they could’ve walked him to the squad car, and driven him off to the station to arrest or ticket him or whatever it is they wanted to do. But that would’ve meant losing face in front of the crowd (b/c he still would’ve gotten to parade naked on the way to the car), and well, a couple of cops can’t have that, can they? TASER HIM! Look macho! Three cops with weapons against one naked stoned guy – dude doesn’t even have pockets to hide a weapon. Tasers aren’t a joke. They’re not a “safe” alternative to guns. They have killed people and they will again. They shouldn’t be used so lightly.

“I bet if they had tried to cuff him while standing (before the violence escalated and the tasering happened), he would’ve happily offered his wrists, they could’ve walked him to the squad car, and driven him off to the station to arrest or ticket him or whatever it is they wanted to do.”

Could you folks be any dumber? I apologize for the question mark as it was a rhetorical question. If you are one of the people in the entire thread above who said something to the effect of “why didn’t they try to cuff him before they tased him?”, we would all appreciate it if you would disembowel yourself right now. Did you watch the entire video before passing your half-wit ideas of police procedure onto the rest of us, or is your brain not capable of interpreting the messages that your eyeballs send to it every millisecond? “Why did they tase him so many times?” Possibly for the fact that mini-manhood was STILL RESISTING while they tried to cuff him. I know that since visual interpretation is so hard for most of you, asking you to understand properties of electric current will be nearly impossible. The human body is a highly effective means of conducting current, and therefore would shock the officers as well if they tried to restrain and cuff him while still tasing him. When they stopped tasing him they asked if he would stop restraining so that they could cuff him and he refused, therefore only getting himself tased more.

Please use this post for the caption so no one else has to explain it to you nitwits.

  79. why focus so much on the weenis, when EVERYTHING about his body was so awfully terrible? honestly, from ponytail to microtush– and the tanline which made the microtush impossible to ignore, it was godawful. i am less traumatized by the femiskins video than this. only good, old-fashioned, gay porn will adequately cleanse my eyeballs.

    • It’s actually Berkeley. From personal experience, Berkeley has settled into its liberal roots and have progressed into rational thought, as opposed to just party/label politics (whereas the rest of the world, namely Los Angeles [and I also speak from personal experience] are too wound up on party identification and false ideologies]). Don’t forget that the biggest student organization on Berkeley’s campus is the College Republicans.

Moreover, you sir, while I get your point, are an idiot.

    • Are you insinuating that the cops were in the right because the guy was rubbing his dick on people? He was just standing there, dude. Have you been to a music festival before? Naked people is half the entertainment.

This guy clearly majors in Being A Badass 101 at Patriotism University, so we should all take his word on what the world is really like, clearly he knows since when he’s not sounding like Captain Smart of the Genius Brigade on the internet (which is sooooo much like the real world it isn’t even funny) he’s out at Pentacostal Churches and Teabagging Parties and other stuff that sane people do. NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION FROM THE CANDIDATE WHO DIDN’T WIN IN NOVEMBER! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!

Lets look at the facts here.

Indecent Exposure = A crime. You can be upset that it is and that’s fair so write your congressman and complain. Or you can stage a protest at the capital if you really want and stand around naked doing so. Just file the necessary paperwork and protest until your heart is content.

All the cops asked him to do was submit and put his clothes back on.

He refused therefore they had no choice but to arrest him. Its their job. They would have gotten in trouble with their superiors if they did not. The man was breaking the law.

They then tried for a good minute to arrest the guy without a taser and he refused and started getting physical with them in refusing. Put yourself in their position. What would you do? Keep asking him nicely? No, you would use force to do so and if you’d prefer not to break their arms or legs or ribcage in the process (or your own for that matter) you decide that you can tase him to get him to submit rather than seriously hurt a guy. In the past they’ve resorted to much greater use of force.

But all this would have been avoided if he had decided to abide by the law and do as the officers had said. As soon as you break the law, some of your rights disappear. If he was on drugs at the time then he was breaking another law so it doesn’t excuse him if he’s not perfectly coherent. If anything it give the cops more reason to be careful with him because some drugs cause you to be much more impervious to pain meaning you could take a bullet or two and not even realize it and keep fighting.

If you want to argue that all drugs should be legalized then you can do that as well but that’s not the argument.

The fact of the matter is that the guy broke the law and the cops gave him a chance to do things peacefully and he refused and resisted arrest so the cops handled him the best they could.

The hippies standing around don’t understand this because they think everyone should love each other and smoke together but, unfortunately, that’s not how the world works. We create laws to protect us from bad people (amongst other reasons) and the only way a society will function is if people obey these laws and if they have a problem with them then they petition their government to change these laws.

So I think the cops did their job and you won’t have to ever worry about getting tased if you submit to the cops when they attempt to arrest you and fight your fight in the court room. As soon as they attempt to arrest you and you refuse, you’re in for an unpleasant time.

    • Intelligent commentary.
But i mostly just rated you up because of your username, which is hilarious.

The normal Joshs and Chads out there still have a long while to go in reclaiming their names.

I thought his tiny peen would become erect when he was tased. The peen in this vid disappointed on so many levels. I will hope NW posts a vid of himself online somewhere showing the size of his erection. Because we all want to know!

I think NW wanted to provoke an incident with the police. At the beginning of the video he told them, “It doesn’t have to stop until you prove it to me.” He wanted his tiny peen to become famous!

I just watched the vid again and realized the guy making the freedom of speech comment was referring to himself videoing the incident.

Do they arrest people for public intoxication at Mardi Gras? No.

    Good training video!
For those of you with negative feelings toward the cops I’d say you’ve never tried to cuff a resister. It cannot be done without force. That, folks, was not excessive force!
Ignoring the offender wasn’t an option. His failure to comply with a lawful directive was the danger, not his nakedness. Think of mob mentality and crowd control people!

maybe everyone already totally knows this and i’m like the new girl from duh city but whenever you say “fat cop,” keep in mind they’ve got a shit ton of kevlar on which is heavy and bulky as hell. granted some cops are tubbo without it, but it definitely adds poundage and creates a convincing illusion of extra-bulkiness.

The morons yelling “freedom of speech” should have been tased as well! He wasn’t being arrested for anything he said! He was being arrested for walking around with his tiny penis exposed and refusing to get dressed! And, to the morons who said he didn’t deserve to be tased, did you even watch the video?? As the cops tried to cuff him he attempted to run! When they tackled him to the ground, he tried to stand back up! If the naked assclown would have just out his pathetic robe back on everything would have been fine! But, apparently, he felt that his micropenis was “a beautiful thing!”

I, in my younger years have seen people in drug induced psychosis do some amazing things. I saw a guy on acid beat down six cops, a dude on meth get hit by a car and get up as if nothing had happened. So to say that this gentleman should have had the fuzzy wuzzy love police come out and hug him back into his clothing makes me think there is allot of people in this world who have no concept of what law enforcement deals with on a daily basis. I think it would be fun to come hang out at your job and scream such incitefull comments at you such as “you fucking idiot” or “fuck you pig”. Would make standing at the mailbox waiting for your entitlement check from the government allot more uncomfortable. And as a post note on the subject of Asia v.s. Stereotyping: to misspeak, or in this case mistype a word when the meaning is implied is not stereotyping. To accuse everyone who uses the word Asia when trying to describe an Asian country of being ignorant is, stereotyping. Anyway, America ‘pwnz all ur base” and its international critics are obviously jealous of how great we are, and how effectively we tase naked morons into the grassy knoll at public events.

  97. Matt  |   Posted on Jun 3rd, 2009 0

Those people saying “the cops were right to taze him cos he resisted arrest” can go suck on one. apart from the fact that they were clearly taking our their own aggression on him (see the guy knee dropping into his stomach before they tazed him at all) why should they arrest him in the first place? he’s only naked. i’m not a nudist but nudity is the defauly human setting – we invented clothes to keep warm, not to “hide our shame” so if it’s not cold – why wear clothes.
    this video is disgusting.

  98. Pelle  |   Posted on Jul 12th, 2009 0

I think both the cops and the guy were wrong.

The cops shouldn’t have tazed him in his neck and near his heart. EVER. It’s dangerous, and potentially lethal. He is naked and therefore doesn’t have pockets and therefore can’t carry a gun, so tazering him in potentially lethal places is not done.

The cops should’ve realized he was on drugs, and should’ve tazed him and tried to resist kneeing him in the groin. I mean, yeah they can use a tazer if someone resists arrest. But don’t use excessive force other than that and struggling. I agree with other people saying the wizard dude got angry again because of that. And I agree that it’s hard for a police officer to cuff someone who resists. But you’re a police officer, you’re trained, and you should’ve been more patient. It’s a hippie on drugs, and he isn’t carrying weapons, all he can do is hit you, but it didn’t even seem like that would ever happen.

I don’t feel sorry for him cuz he was tazed, i feel sorry for him cuz he doesnt have a penis.
