Guys, this is the place where I occasionally dump some crappy college-level deep thought that would embarrass Jack Handy, and this week I’ve got another one. Basically, I was just thinking about how last week, not only did we not know about the Mati Te’o story, for example, or even more importantly, the official music video for “Hoeski”, but that we did not even suspect them. No one was like, “I don’t know why, but I just have this feeling like there’s going to be a hilarious sports scandal involving a fake Twitter girlfriend, and also one of the most important songs of our entire lives.” It just goes to show that you never know what is coming next, and there’s something pretty exciting about that. I know that is obvious and everyone knows it, but these are pretty good examples of just exactly what that entails. Who even knows what treasures are in store for us tomorrow? Only God up in heaven. Praise be to Her. Have a great weekend, I’m going to go lie down now.

This Week’s Highest Rated Comments

Here is what I think happened:

Saturnian (and the rest of the internet) read about a story he found interesting. Saturnian thought “You know who I would like to talk abou this with? The cool people over at http://www.videogum.com! They are smart and interesting and funny, especially that strapping young Gabe fella.”

We should all take this as a compliment and move on.

Gabe, don’t try to use the Jon Stewart shield. This site has been covering non-trampoline events since the outset. Cover what you want to cover. Don’t cover what you don’t want to cover.

I keep my eyes wide open all the time

I keep the ends out for the tie that blinds

Because you’re mine, I have the wine

Let’s not ignore the best part of the Te’o story: Donald Trump tweeted to congratulate the guys who wrote the article, and Deadspin replied: “Go fuck yourself.”

[Assoc. Ed. Note: Hahaha, there is something a little strange about the number one comment this week being about a tweet that the writers of Deadspin tweeted, but c'est la vie! I'm almost positive that this is the exact kind of situation that calls for "c'est la vie." GR8 JOB THIS WEEK GUYS HAVE FUN THIS WEEKEND BE SAFE!]

A heavyset woman of color not familiar with the Johnny Cash songbook sounds about right. It’s not like she flubbed an Anita Baker clue.

[Assoc. Ed. Note: I'm not totally sure why this is lowest rated, but if I had to guess it would be that some people just aren't into weird, casual racism.]

I’m not even kidding about this comment. These are two of my greatest loves combined!!! Zac is in my top five celebrity crushes (because I am in seventh grade), and it has always been a dream of mine to own a sheep farm. NOT for sexy purposes, though. I just really love sweaters.

  1. Guys I am way too excited for this weekend.

I am that excited for it. That is actually not a gif, it is an upload from my very real and actual existing webcam.

  2. For sure the top comment belongs to Dr. Feelgood, no protest from me. Those “I Have the Wine” lyrics are fantastic.

[Me note: But I've only been in the Ball once before, so go fuck yourself! (Aaaah just kidding!)]

  3. Flanny and I discovered we’re having a Lake House situation with my apartment building. I’m future Flanny and Flanny is past ArtDork. Or something. It’s pretty cool. Good week, good work, everyone!

  4. Have a great weekend, guys! Been saving this GIF for you all week.

  5. I think this properly sums up how I’m feeling right now.

  6. I like the upvote/downvote separation happening here. It’s neat because looking through posts this week you can see that almost nothing was downvoted and that’s such an anomaly on the internet. We have our little crises, but all in all this is such a supportive community. I am not drunk right now. I just wanted to say thanks everyone for being pretty neat!

  7. Whao Nelly! What is happening with the comments now?! Did we try this once before, I seem to remember?
I have no problem with it, I just want someone to confirm my deja vu so I don’t think I’m crazy and get fired and have ECT.

  8. Also: Thanks for liking me, guys! Blergh! Thanks for the word, Tina! I beat Meryl! I’m not Honey Boo Boo!

  9. Have a great weekend guys! I just came back from a super long lunch break, during which I hung out with topknot and manooshi and everyone else was jealous!

    • That is true! The jealousy we were mired in was the worst!

    • Steph–I found your book on amazon. Can’t get it until April. But what wonderful editorial reviews you got! I don’t know you, but I’m so impressed! Good luck with the debut. I’m looking forward to meeting Juniper!

    • I am having a hard time posting tonight, Steph. But I just wanted you to know that I checked out your book on amazon. How exciting to have a book for sale on there! I can’t get it until April, but I look forward to meeting Juniper. Best of luck with your debut.

      • If you see this, newbie, thanks! Also I am totally dependent on Amazon but please buy from your local independent if you have one!

  10. Dear Videogum,

I didn’t make it into your Ball of Monsters, but a comment I made yesterday has received – I think – more upvotes than any other comment I’ve made on this site. It was a joke that can be summed up as Canada = Narnia and it took me literally zero seconds to think up, in stark and humbling contrast to some other comments I’ve made which required a bit more thought and had me giggling like a maniac. My point is, apparently I don’t know comedy. So henceforth all of my comments will be Narnia themed and I will be going by the name Mr. Tumnus. I guess Simon Spidermonk just wasn’t winsome or fey enough. I look forward to joining you in your Ball of Monsters next week.

Now, kindly suspend your disbelief and entrust your imagination to my care, for the time of our magical journey is upon us. Allow me to transport you to that numinous land of talking beasts and walking gods known as… Narnia!

  11. May I please draw renewed attention to Jeb’s very good comment from the White House petition post? It was mad excellent.

  15. Greetings from Wine Country!!! It’s everything I ever hoped it would be, and I haven’t even been here very long.

    Pictured: me.
(Just kidding! I’m drinking much MUCH better wine than this and eating crab and watching South Park. I love you Hook & Ladder!!! Also, I love that my parents are like “let’s eat crab and watch South Park!”)

  16. I don’t want to harp on this, but I am STILL bent over laughing over that Gary Busey video. If you google Gary, this is the first thing that comes up now.

  17. Who is Jack Handy? Is he like Jack Handey?
