Let’s please continue the conversation currently being had in this country about the need to remove automatic weapons and oversized magazines from the marketplace, as well as what steps we can take as a community to diagnose and treat mental illness before it is allowed to spiral into devastating violence, but let’s definitely not say anything whatsoever about this video, right? Hush hush? No comment?

Is this going to make me burst into tears or no?
Candle In The Wind for generation douchebag.
SHE WANTS TO TAKE AWAY OUR GUNS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ugh, i listened to a little bit before i had to stop, and not because i don’t want to cry today but because the song is terrible and the whole thing is Too Soon to make a joke (or a terrible song) out of, even though i kind of want to make one about how many tennis balls had to give up their lives to make that video.
Delfin Quishpe’s daughter makes her father proud.

I…don’t like this. That’s my knee jerk reaction, and I’m going to try and break it down.
Sandy Hook happened one month ago, and it takes real time to make music videos, no matter how terrible, right? Like did Will.i.am hear about this shooting and then immediately go recruit this baby to rap about it in this classroom? I hate that very much.
Here’s another part of it. Almost every single person who heard this story had some kind of personal, emotional reaction to it. I’m guessing a handful of people without any personal connection to the event decided their voices were important and unique enough to impose on large segments of the population. But Baby Kaely’s song is the Sandy Hook equivalent of a non-New Yorker crying about 9/11 on 10/11/01, not in the comfort of his bedroom, but on his youTube (myspace??) page to get some hits.
If this girl were older (like double, probably triple her age) I would hold her accountable, but she is 6 or 7 years old so I’m going to go ahead and say this is not on her. I imagine, though, that a lot of adults were involved in the making of this video, and I think they have some reason to be ashamed.
I only watched the first minute or so of this video, and I think it’s entirely possible, even likely, that the last minute offers some redemption in the form of like, “buy this on iTunes and we will donate all proceeds to dismantling the NRA.” I don’t think that changes the fact that the existence of this video is a little bit icky.
I’m with you, Steph. This whole thing just grosses me right out.
I do not need Will.I.Am to manipulate my still very raw emotions about Sandy Hook, just as I never need Will.I.Am to manipulate my emotions about anything, ever. Maybe that’s what bothers me so much about this – sentimentality is already established with this tragedy. The call to action does not need any more sentimentality. If anything, the call to action is better off remaining calm and reasoned, since I’m pretty sure most sane people in the world, right in the wake of this tragedy, were like “MAN, FUCK GUNS.” And even the insane people who were like “Don’t take away my guns!!!” were still sad and very, very upset and potentially more receptive to a message that isn’t insipid and gross like this.
in will.i.am’s defense he is merely a hologram and can’t understand these “emotions” humans have
I completely agree. Did the families of the victims ask for this? How is it Will.I.Am’s place to say anything about the Newtown shootings?
Never thought I’d say this. Needs more Nugent.
One of the worst things my ears have ever been exposed to in my 30 years of life. I am in disbelief that something so completely shitty exists.
Ah yes, the old release a terrible tribute song shorty after a tragic event to try to shield that song from criticism. See also: every 9/11 tribute song ever written.
Hey man, voices that care are crying out loud.
I have a problem that they’re teaching kids that there is such a thing as “heaven”.
“Now they’re dead for-ev-er / Now they’re dead for-ev-er” is actually a lot more persuasive if you want to end gun killings.
I like that hotspur. Exactly. Never coming back, never coming back!
I agree!
They lost me at “Family/sister/father/mother”.
Also, is it bad of me to think it was in poor taste that, when she’s reciting the victims’ names, they listed a kid named Jesse before the kid called James?
The way she looks, how she’s singing, and the source material makes this really insincere.
I mean, I don’t want to harp on something that seems pretty sensationalist to me.
